Not spyware laden at all, well as long as you don't opt in to it. Which the default was off, I believe. I find it fun. Just because I like some pointless addon to the game doesn't mean I'm some mindless sheep. I like fashion too, and that doesn't do anything either. It's nice to be able to possibly have some kind of in game chat messenger that isn't msn, since I hate msn. It'll be nice to be able receive notifications in game so I don't have to use the news article. It will be nice to hit shift +tab and have the forum pulled up while I'm in game so that I can kinda see what's going on in game and still do the forums. It's not necessary and the devs in china could definitely be working on more important things, but that doesn't mean it isn't kinda neat. :P

If you opted out of something, that would mean there was a ToS somewhere there, you dont know what they get returned to them about your PC.

Fashion has a purpose : Aesthetics. Unlike this, which is just more **** munching on your PC which you could do yourself.

Dont use MSN then, I use an older version of Trillian and some of my friends use Pidgin. Plenty of alternatives the the network that more or less "everyone" uses.

Ive always been able to alt+tab to the forums, dunno why shift+tab for a processor munching overlay is better.

Eh. Working on **** like this means they dont give a **** about their problems.

~Feel free to like it, its your toy, not mine. I still think its a waste of time copy of Steam, much like the original Core is a copy of your average social network site.

It's the same ToS the game uses, that ToS covers a pretty broad spectrum of things including Beta Testing.

This thing is basically just for the aesthetics, nothing really game content wise about it. One nice thing about it is you'll be able to chat with your friends even when your on alts without having to resort to squadding them, adding a bazillion people to your friends list. This thing is effectively an expansion on your friends list, which a lot of people have wanted for a while. It's a (probable) pseudo in-game messenger so you don't have to give em your personal chat stuff either. There are some people you would love to chat with more in game, but who you aren't close enough to be sending each other emails and IMs constantly. This lets that stay separate, which is nice. Another easy breezy problem it may solve is staying connected with friends when you leave a faction. I know some people are stuck in pretty much dead factions because they are friend with one or two people that don't want to leave because they hold positions, even though the leader is rarely on.

I haven't tested overlay, but from what i can tell in the tutorial it keeps the window active. I usually just hit the windows key honestly to browse the forums so it's not providing something extra I can't already do, it's just a nifty bonus.

China has to work on things like goon glitching, PWI can work on things like core connect, dq rewards, and jones blessing. Considering they have down a couple of "fixes" of jones, and a lot less people are having problems now which were caused by facebook changing the way groups worked yet again anyway, I'd say they are working on things on their end. It's the devs that don't do anything.

Aint much they can do, and China doesn't seem to give a flying flip what our concerns are because it doesn't affect them. They aren't even allowed to hyper fc over there to begin with, so they really don't care about the goons glitch or it would have been fixed sooner. Though they should be in world chat more often. Hopefully they'll take that GA thing into consideration more and we'll see better responses. :P

They could spend some time in game :O

Spesh for our dearest Goon glitch. Just jump to the players they see advertising (In invisible mode) T screen - screenie and ban when they spawn b:pleased

    And much more stuff.

But active GMs are a nono. Dont blame that on China. China is to blame for fail programming and lazy patch and updates, but not for our GMs attitude of "Ignore it and itl go away".

To be honest, this has next to no real Core integration, other than the fact that it uses your Core friends as your friends list. It's more of a community based application that allows you to launch your games directly from it. As RedsRose said, it's basically PWE's version of Steam. I look at it as more of a way to keep in touch with friends across all servers even while being in a different game.b:chuckle

So, PWI wants me to install their own browser?

Yes, please pwi - stop spamming.

    :)

Seriously though - it's increasingly apparent that PWI have the staff/ability to do stuff on the website, and since they can't do much in the game they are concentrating there.

This is, I feel, a mistake - if we wanted to play with virtual sheep and acheivement medals on a web-page we'd be on faceblart with all the other virtual sheep pokers, rather than playing perfect world. We're a different audience (albeit one seemingly willing to fake up faceblart accounts to get in-game shinies.)

We mostly don't use your social media attempt - not because we haven't heard of it, but because we don't CARE.
Well, ok, non-forum people probably haven't heard of it either.

Guess I'll give installing this a shot later on. I like the positive reviews in this thread so far, so I'm kinda curious to try it out myself.

Plus it'll give me a reason to actually pay slight attention to Core and whether or not people are adding me there. b:laugh

Ok, seeing as how PWE considers me hardcore enough to invite me to try this client, I took the time to install it, and boy, was that a total waste of time. First off, it's EXACTLY the same as Core on your browser, only you can't resize the window. Well, I figured I could overlook that small issue, so I followed the instructions to run my game in fullscreen mode to take advantage of the new overlay system.

Right, so, the static window size was the LEAST of my problems. You see, this client launches the launcher, so there's an extra unnecessary step. Now, maybe this is where I made a mistake, but I'm not so sure it's why the client decided to have fun with my computer. I changed the game to run fullscreen from the launcher (Element launcher NOT Core), saved the settings, and clicked Play. BAM!! It removed my desktop background image goodness, and froze on that wonderfully black screen, with the PWi cursor the only thing showing. Waited 10 - 15 mins, and finally ran the Task Manager to kill the element process.

Oh, but Core Client wasn't done. This was the "fun" part. After going into my Catalyst Control Center (ATi's lil display prog) to regain control over the desktop bit depth and re-adding my background, I decided to kill Core Client. Clicking the X top-right just puts it in the System Tray, so, I right clicked the icon and clicked Exit, only to watch it simply open fullscreen. Well, I got something for nasty lil progs like that. I hit up the good ol "Uninstall" from the Core Client folder and let it work it's magic.

Oh yeah, that's right, you have to close the client first to uninstall it. But, if it won't go away, how do I uninstall it then? Once again, Task Manager to the rescue. Killed Core Client, Uninstalled it, and vowed to NEVER try something I already knew would be a waste of time ever again.

Look, guys, it was a great try, but we all already use Core Connect with our browsers. We do NOT need a launcher to launch the launcher, especially if we're dual instancing, since, as far as I know, you still cannot do from the Launcher. Maybe the overlays would have been nice, or maybe I woulda simply got mad that I get to see a diff version of Duke Blacke spamming me with sales from the overlay of a game where I see announcements all the time as it is. If you want to do this right, add overlays to the game, like with the boutique. That's simply an in-game overlay of your webstore.

    Sometimes I wonder about PWE.

    Hope you like it :)

I like it. A lot. Its something that I think people will warm up to very quickly, once they get over the initial shock of something new.

I installed it, watched the tutorial video. I think its a really awesome thing that makes PWE stand out from the rest.

Sure its like Steam, and no, its not as 'tricked out' as Steam like voice chat, but I am sure with time, it may head in that direction. I like that it has a browser that I can use in-game (like a certain space-oriented Pay to Play game), and that it has in-game notifications (will never miss a zen sale, or fire sales again!), and that it has a messaging service, for those who play on different games or different servers, they can message their friends without ever leaving or tabbing out of their game. Pretty sweet :)

As much as I am kind of irritated that they did not use their resources and time to fix bugs in their games, I am glad to see that all that money being pumped into this company is developing into useful things.

I will def. be using the Core Client.

Each of Perfect World Entertainment's games have access to your computer through their anti-**** software, this is no different. All-in-all, I, personally, find it a very useful tool to have. It automatically logs you into games, everything is there for you, in-game console, I think it's a nice piece of kit.

PWI is currently a little buggy with the system, but it's only been released a day, so these are to be expected. The overlay works with BoI (only one I've really tested it on).
