Self Introduction and a Question or Three!

Salutations all!
(I am putting this here and in Beginners Guide becasue I figure it could go in either)
Being new to PWI, I am taking the opportunity to introduce myself in the hopes of getting some advice, as well as starting new freindships...
Beginning with a few questions;
At what levels is it a good idea to start worrying about socketing gear?
What would you say to a beginner about the initial steps to socketing, genie leveling, and professions (say... Apothecary and Craftsman)?
The rest seems to be easy enough to get, translating over my experiences from WoW... Speaking of which... I do love for it's flow and atmosphere. However, roleplay and creativity arent so appreciated by that crowd these days. It's getting lonely for an artist like me. I needed a more customizeable avatar and environment to enjoy sometimes. Simply put, I'm in the market for a guild, with at least light ammounts of roleplay. Is there a hidden site out there or secret to finding a guild for a newbie like me?

Please describe how experienced you are, how you like to play (solo/squad), what characters you prefer (dd, heal etc), to what level you understand merchanting and whether you plan on, or would spend real money on the game in certain circumstances...
You are about to get good advice and likely some flaming but others will ask the above questions also, with a view to giving an honest answer.
Something to keep in mind is this: There is a whole world to explore and quest in over a period of time, or you can avoid nearly all quests and power level to 100+ (end game) in a very short period of time, which will likely require a serious injection of real money to then equip you char with gears/weapons etc.
Now answer the questions, and any other things about your style and it will help others to answer your queries.0 -
I recommend switching from Sanctuary to Dreamweaver since Sanctuary has a lot of scammers and Glitch abusers. You can really notice this by their wcs of looking for goon squads where as dreamweaver has no wcs for it.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

Everything has its beginnings, but it doesn't start at one. It starts long before that... The world is born From zero. The moment zero becomes one is the moment the world springs to life. One becomes 2. 2 becomes 10. 10 becomes 100. taking it all back to one solves nothing. so long as zero remains... One.. Will eventually grow to 100 again.0 -

Besides, I don't think he's really looking to glitch, anyway, so that doesn't really matter. b:sweat

The most role-play I've seen in PWI since my join date...
... a low level barb in City of the Lost. Every time they spoke they would start or end each sentence with a "meow".
"Hi, could I get some help with my fb19 meow"
"I have my tabs, can you help me? Meow".
"Meow, I died here a lot"
etc...
I guess it wasn't just that person that was funny, more like the rest of us laughing about it in vent.
Oh, what a wonderful time in PW history. When there were more new incoming players than old timers... The joy.I post in forums. This one and others. That's why I post.0 -
Woo! Thanks everyone for the warm welcome, and lol, appreciate the server advice too. Why not, all my toons are new, so now's the time if I plan to switch.. when I've invested so little.

I've figured out how to track questgivers and am utilizing the rookie guide... playing an archer and seeker to start with, don't have a plan just want to level them without missing out on too many things to buff them... I'm getting tons of information in my face when I google search stuff like genies... in a mash of stats, colors, and new terms... I will apply it better if I just know what a person under level ten should do with their genie to get it growing right. A starter kit for professions, no need for an encyclopedia on the matter. For example, learning that pets are pretty much useless to me now, especially because I can't have a combat pet unless venomancer, yadda yadda... I'd like to start at ground zero here without too much of a headache. So that's why I'm just asking for the first steps to going down the road with professions and socketing becasue these features are most different from WoW lol.. I have a little shock from the transition I guess.
Nah,I don't want to miss out on the leveling experience, and plan to learn much on my own through doing the work, but it's hard to ask for what I don't know about ... y'know? Any advice as to what to expect about the crucial stage of starting a new character down the right path to level them is what I'm hoping for.
I can figure out stats and attributes of my class on my own. So I'm not being lame enough to ask anyone to tell me -how- to level my character from begining to end. Just want to know when/how I can socket his gear, what to expect to gather if I'm just starting out as an apothecary, and do you have any warnings for me? Objects, who, where.. that's all I am asking for. Any additional info you want to supplicate is up to you guys. b:victory
Hope that was the info you wanted without being too wordy!
And the flamers, lol, not worried about them... if they are going to flame me for being new to PWI and wanting to cure noobitis as fast as possible then they're just doing it to do it. So far everyone's been awesome anyway, I shall give all your advice due consideration!...and it's pronounced "ECK" not "Ech.." (Echeru!) b:cool

Genies- Since you are playing melee types I would recommend a Zeal Genie, as it's first skill is something that will be useful to you for the entire game. As for beginning genies, I recommend going into your respective classes guides. It gives you the genie skills you should be working for to best interact with your class.
Apothecary-I would start out by farming the herbs for life powders (the hp regeneration rate one) as it will help you when you are questing or in dungeons.
As for which professions, I would recommend doing all of them personally. I don't like handing other people over my gear to craft, just a personal preference. If you trust your guild mates its not really necessary at all to do any profession, except maybe apothecary if you want the potions. Instead go to the auction house and you can find 3 star gear or gear with good adds for your level by utilizing the filter.
I gotta also recommend Dreamweaver as far as server choice, there are much less goons glitchers here, and people are in general pretty nice. The reason goon glitching is bad is thats its basically people cheating to gain levels. It affects you in that it maybe harder to find normal fc squads when you get to the level to start considering it, which is a great asset to leveling once you can run it yourself as its cheap and easy. And if you aren't spamming it constantly an doing it once or twice per day, won't cause you too miss out on a ton of content.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

I played another version.... and 4 socketed my 80 gear, added +5 on all, and.. found out about hypers... (I use dragos/orbs to refine btw).
Yeah... embarassing.... My alt mystic proudly wears this armor until I get my $ out of it! (same acct as my veno - who I crafted this for).0 -

When someone says they know how to allocate their stats, it makes me cringe. Just tell me you've added NO MAGIC to either your archer or seeker and I'll feel better for you. If you have, start again and learn about your class.
I ran a BH39 yesterday with someone telling me they knew what they were doing and they then NPC a ring mold not knowing its worth!!!!
As for socketing, 100+. Dont do it until you have the last weapon/gear you ever plan on using. Its expensive and levelling is pretty easy so why spend money socketing something that will be superseeded.
As for genies, do you know what 'luring' is. The first skill of the zeal genie is used for luring. Apart from that I never used a genie until I was 80+ HOWEVER I never RPK'd, so if you planning on PKing, you will use your genie earlier.
Anyone who uses genies has more than one. I hardly use them and even I have 2. Many have 3 or 4.
Have 2 accounts. You can then try every class and do things at the same time with two chars by multiclienting.
Read the forums and search your queries. There is a wealth of information there. Explore these websites.

Good luck.
EDIT: Oh and there are lots of scams. Check prices of things in other shops and the auction house before you buy anything. People will try and sell something for 100x what its worth.0 -
ah, yeah, I thought it was pretty cool that we can do all the professions if we want to. I will enjoy learning as I go, but thanks for answering my questions... I tried to keep them simple. This forum seems pretty good about staying on topic, I really appreciate the advice guys. b:pleased...and it's pronounced "ECK" not "Ech.." (Echeru!) b:cool

Mk so your going to want to work around armor for stats I know you said you wanna figure it out yourself but thats what stats do here is armor and weapons if you don't have enough for the next level you are gimped horribly till your next level or many more after that. You ALWAYS want to look in the shops and plan your stats on your armor(or find a guide but that takes the fun out of it).
As for genies you definitely want to get zeal to start with it can pull a monster away from the others without alerting the other ones so its helpful. You honestly won't be able to do much of anything until level 30ish with genies before that your spirit is too precious to be wasting even at level 30 you cut it close but you can use exp and spirit to level the genie so if you wanna stay a certain level for awhile just feed your genie note he can't get past you in level. When you finally do get around to editing your genie your going to want to plan HIS stats on the skills you want him to have don't have enough stat can't cast it. You will also get elements before you put those in your going to want to plan ahead with that too you don't get a genie reset for free anymore so no take backies once there in there in if you don't wanna spend 5 or 10 bucks. Also note your genie levels up with you by getting exp when you do he doesn't level as fast as you so if you level him there till your level ten he will probably be 6 and the divide gets wider.
As for pets Venos get pets and so do mystics but venos don't have timed pets mystics do cause a mystics pet is a skill.
I would honestly recommend HT there are really interesting characters there and few scams but its a old server so the balance of power is way up there although you will always find someone your level on HT. Its your choice really.
As for apo and blacksmithing and things you will find mats for apo and blacksmithing on the ground you just need a pickaxe and the right level to pick them. Crafting you pick items up off the ground like apo and blacksmithing but you also need monster drops. For some reason I think there is one other I just can't remember what it is I am drawing a blank which is weird. Crafting makes armor Blacksmithing makes weapons Apothecary makes potions all of which are very helpful.
As a rookie player socketing won't do any good till later(unless your on a server thats growing and even then not till after 30-35) The thing is sockets are a bit useless on low armor they cost money to put in and your going to grow out of that armor in a day or an hour. I had a barb that I put socket stones in at 13 and kept going they help but depending on the gems they cost an ungodly amount of money. The little ones you only notice at a low level if that are cheap but you have to combine 3 of those gems to make the next grade 3 of that grade to make the next and 3 of the next to make the next and 4 of the next to make the next..........its a vicious cycle and expensive so hold off until your funds in game are in order. Exception is weapons you can put shards in that at low levels as they do make a good difference so you should as big as you can afford without breaking the bank so much you can't buy your skills later.
A note purple weapons are better then white or blue usually so pick those up if your allowed. They drop in dungeons and you can make them which means they are usually on sale in the AH. They are all unique every one of them although they will the same graphical model.
Oh and one more thing if you shard your armor or weapon with average or better stones your armor or weapon will glow. Red stones give a red glow and so on but if you mix them you get sparkles. Other then that its basically point click kill go have fun ^_^[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0
