primeval vs garnet gem in R9 wep

Here is the build I'm working towards. Some of the stuff will eventually be replaced, like the robe and probably neck, but I'm curious as to what everyone thinks about replacing the garnet gems that everyone puts in their wep with primevals. Now that the price is about the same (~30m), and it seems attack levels matter more than anything else, does it make sense to add 2 more crit over a few hundred base attack? Adding two garnet gems adds ~600 base attack, and the cost of drakeflames seems excessive to me so I don't really feel like bothering with them, and with already 79 attack levels using O'Malley's blessing (94 with jones) it seems that 600 base attack < 2% more crit.
I know a year ago primevals were decidedly stupid, before attack and defense levels became game changers. Is it still stupid? Has anyone done this?
Opinions or experiences?

Garnets increase the overall DPS and DPH on that by a little bit more. However that's without including bow mastery since you didn't have it enabled and I didn't bother turning it on. With bow mastery,, garnets would make an even greater difference.
For your easiest answer, just check how much your damage increases and compare it to the crit. Is the damage increase a higher percent than crit gain? If so, go for the direct damage. If not, go for the crit.0 -
Crit is luck and garnets don't need luck.
Personally id go garnets because 150 base weapon damage > 4% crit to me.
Just add all the masteries b:chuckle0 -

Oops, yea I forgot to check the masteries. That makes ~800 difference in base damage (~6.5% increase) when removing/adding garnets. Which to me just doesnt seem like it is better than 2% more crit while pvping after damage reductions have taken effect, especially considering how many players are sharding with Jades anymore. I just feel like I might be missing something more, especially since I don't know exactly how attack levels are affected by base damage.

Fixed the initial link to include masteries...
Also, primevals only add 1% crit each, pwcalc doesnt display them correctly in the weapon and I was too lazy to find a stone that was just 1% crit. Pwcalc still adds only 1% crit each under the character stats however.0 -
Once you reach the 40-50% cri.. anything higher is barely noticeable. If you wanna test this... just have a barb buff you and check for yourself if in 20 shots .. you had cri more often. I think barb does 5% cri buff.. not sure or 2.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

It's not as stupid as using DoTs in a weapon but I wouldn't lose 3% of my damage for 1% more chance to crit.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

I would only do this if I can crit more than I do not, which I dont think is possible unless you have anything higher than 50% crit.0

I used a tisha to try to +11 my bow. Failed and it went down to +9. Have I seen a damage difference? Honestly... Nope. None.
It seems to me that Attack Level does all the damage nowadays, and crit isn't too bad of a replacement.
It may be the fact that archers stick to normal attacks and most of their skills don't add xxx% weapon dmg, so there is never really that multiplier to notice big hits get even bigger.
It's all choice, but quite frankly, the only place you may notice the dmg difference when adding 150 extra wep dmg is in PvE.. yay.0
