Unsticky the Old Wizard Guides

In their time they were great, but now they are a joke.
I know that some of you are working on a new wizard guide, which is great, but the ones up already need to be taken down.
Too often do noob wizards post on these forums, or talk to me ingame about how LA is the best armor for wizards until 90+, and that you should level pyroshell so you can grind on foxwings easier.
The point is, currently the guides are doing more bad than good. They need to be allowed to die.

are you making this thread because of me? b:sad
I don't really know how pyroshell works but I'm following a (almost) pure build.
(yes... the world moves around me[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0 -
hey now, pyroshell comes in real handy when you're fighting those fire DoT mobs at broken bow bluff. b:chuckle
still, way back when i was starting my wizard i very nearly fell prey to those same old guides. it was plain luck i decided i already had enough LA-wearing characters and went for a vit mag hybrid; and then i stopped adding vit pretty soon after, too. (maybe too soon, that wizard goes squish at least once every time i play her...)[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC] Heaven's Tear alts: KenLubin, Sou_Hon, JudyCaraco --- level 5x chars.0 -
It's long past due that they get removed. It's like they are describing an entirely different game.Youtube Channel: youtube.com/user/D2VeT/videos?flow=grid&view=0

Is it all of them, or just a few that you feel that are outdated and need to be unstickied? If so, could you please point out which ones, and suggest new ones that might be better suited?
Thanks!

all of them, the most recent one (Seraphim's) was written over 2 years ago. Some of the others were written in the first couple months the game came out. There really isn't a current guide to speak of, although the Genie Discussion thread does have alot of good information (imo). We are working on a new guide, but I'd suggest at least removing the 5 now, and add a new one when it appears.Youtube Channel: youtube.com/user/D2VeT/videos?flow=grid&view=0

I still think they hold good information so it would be better to unsticky only when a guide that can replace it is here imo =/Siggy from bellefleurs.

What information do you think is good? A quick skim over the guides shows advice for grinding (lawl), a basic description of skills and what to learn first (most are wrong imo), and some basic pvp tactics that no longer apply. Yes. You're missing that not everyone hop skips to 100 in frost and that people still actually play the game. People do grind on foxwings. People still do the cube because it gives nice exp. Some of pandoras tw advice for wizzys is still true. And no LA might not be the best with r8 so cheap but pandora never says LA OR GTFO. Crysxals guide is still mostly true.
From seraphims guide
"
Skills:
Absolute Domain - Invicibility for 4 seconds.
Expel = Invicibility for 10 seconds. Use a pot to remove the seal.
Tree of Protection = HP Healing
Extreme Poison = 20% Increased damage *Stacks with AMP*
Fortify = Immunity to Stun
Holy Path = Max movement speed *Amazing for Kiting*
Frenzy = Increase damage by 20% (Great if expelled) but increases damage taken as well.

I don't think anyone needs a guide to killing mobs.. just like I don't need a guide to take candy from a baby. I think I could sum up the useful info from those guides in a small paragraph.. if it was worth doing. There aren't many new players nowadays, it's mostly people re-rolling from other classes. What they need/want to know is how to play the class, the basic game mechanics are already known. I really wished you had quoted a little more from seraphim's guide where he mentions you should have 80 mag to unlock the 5th skill slot.. that brought back some funny memories. Besides, his genie section (if you can call it that) is outdated and lacking to say the least. May as well just put a link to ecatomb and call that a guide.
I just don't see the usefulness of the guides anymore.. they are all old, and grinding is not recommended anymore. I seriously doubt that those that want to play the old fashioned way are going to be reading the guides anyway (if you are willing to spend the time reading/researching how to play a wizard.. you probably wouldn't be grinding lol)
I guess we could create a new thread with a link to the old guides and label them correctly.. maybe something like "Ancient guides that no longer apply to pwi 2011".. but most these new wizards are treating them like they are current.. which I think is very misleading.Youtube Channel: youtube.com/user/D2VeT/videos?flow=grid&view=0

We'd normally unsticky guides if a better, updated one is posted. So we'll wait until that one arrives before removing the others.

The old guides have really a lot of false information or just state the obvious. You may at least sticky the "Genie discussion"Middle lane, middle lane.. b:shutup0 -

Well can you start by please unstickying all the guides except Seraphim's then? They're all useless, but there's no reason to have 5 useless guides taking up room when we only need one.
Also please sticky the Genie Discussion thread. It contains a TON of current information. And even though the guide is mostly made for genies, it does contain a lot of useful information for playing a wizard on the whole if you read through a couple pages.0 -
Alright then. Let me see what I can do about it. b:thanks
EDIT: Stickied Genie discussion, un-stickied two irrelevant guides.
I'm going to keep the rest until updated ones will be made. You guys are welcome to collaborate and make a new, updated one.

yes, yes you are.0 -
i recently rolled my wizzy cause i was bored of being a veno and i read some and started thinking and im like "oh **** no" and im glad i stoped following thier advice before it was too late and i would have had to reset or re roll
i do think itd be good to get some new guides up and take the old ones down. i dont have a peferance wheater they die now or later, but the longer there at the top, the more poeple see them and think "oh ok so thats what i need to do with my wizzy!!"[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

I find that most of the advice in the guides is still true. The wizard class hasn't really changed at all. The only thing really needed is guides for higher level tactics since most of the people from 2-3 years ago (like me) are near/at end-game (yeah I level slow and take frequent breaks from the game), and people who start playing now are mostly hypering to endgame. The guides are still pretty applicable to pre-80 (i just threw in a random number) gameplay, though pvp guides have to be tweaked a little.
All the new guides people are trying to make start from scratch explaining builds and skills, but the old guides are there for that. We just need updates for genies/tactics, especially pvp/tw.[sigpic] [/sigpic]0 -
Amour's guide is the best until I read this.
Frostblade - 28.5/30m Range. Buffs target with water damage equal to 30 / 40% of your base magic attack. Lasts 15 minutes.
Sage version increases effect duration to 30 minutes.
Demon version increases water damage equal to 50% of your base magic attack
Fairly useless skill, I'm really not sure how much damage this adds but I KNOW for a fact it doesn't increase melee attacks by 30-50% of the casters magic attack. Note that level 11 frostblade gives 20 chi per cast instead of 10.
Frostblade is so amazing, it increase damage also give your attack element effect. That means, you can hit people with expel, physical immune. In a 1v1 bm vs bm case, that element attack ++ buff can kill a bm due to the phsical marrow.
Unsticky all of the wizard's guide except Amour's and Adroit's imo. AAA guide, the best.0 -
