Okay here is the situation...and I am aware this might be in the wrong place but I want it seen quickly.

I am currently staying in a hotel, and the wifi available, seems to have several major ports shut, I can not connect to server in game, I can't connect to vent (blah!) and I can not even connect to like, yahoo games...

If anyone can find me a solution to this, short of contacting the web admin for the hotel as that is out of the question, I will make a character on your server, and give you 20 gold or the coin equalivant....if that is allowed...I think I can do that...

Stipulations

Solution must be tested and verified working by me.
Soultion must be made tonight.
Reward is null and void if GMs/Mods/etc say that it is not allowed.

Contact the front desk, tell them what problem you are having, find out if they can suggest a solution.
At the very least, they should be able to tell you what ports are open so you can use them to access what you need

    29000 is PWI's port.
    Ventrilo is server based ports.

To check what ports are available on your current connection try
    firebind

If you're sure 29000 is blocked and are willing to try some more technical solutions shoot me a private message.

    1. increase the amount of disk space used by your computer to browse the Internet. Click on the "Settings" button under "Browsing History" from Step 1. Slide the bar all the way to your right to increase the amount of disk space for Web browsing. Click on "Apply."

    2. Plug an ethernet cord into your computer, and wrap it the other end around your cellphone to hopefully extend the range.

Found these two on the internet, you should give them a try

sorry to say there is no work around for a hotel or motel or even a school you have to ask the front desk to change the ports so you can play. sorry.b:surrender

Everything has its beginnings, but it doesn't start at one. It starts long before that... The world is born From zero. The moment zero becomes one is the moment the world springs to life. One becomes 2. 2 becomes 10. 10 becomes 100. taking it all back to one solves nothing. so long as zero remains... One.. Will eventually grow to 100 again.

I don't even have to click your links.
That's troll logic you're referring to.

No but seriously check the port on firebind (see my previous post) and paste the "copy to clipboard" results here if you can't understand them. Basically if it fails it's not going to let you connect to PWI without some technical adjusments.

Stabby, tried to pm you but it said you don't exist lmao.

Checked with firebind, said fail for port 29000. Doubt the web admin, or anyone with ANY friggin knowledge is still working here this late at night. Plus, it is a casino/hotel, so they probably don't give a rats ***.

Only thing i could think of would be to tunnel to a VPN, but dear god I have been out of school so long I couldn't begin to think of that ****, plus I don't have anything set up anywhere.

I'm working on your solution. Yea tunneling a home vpn would be easiest but there are other options. I think I have one for you I'm testing it to make sure it'll handle the PWI payload.

Ok so the software I'm playing with is called freecap and it's a windows version of a transparent sock. The idea is if the port is blocked you can add the silent listener- but transmitting becomes the problem.

I'm a little out of my depth here making it work so gimme a little more time. How long you stuck at this hotel for? I could probably have it figured out in a few hours.

Way better than freecap is widecap.

It allows you to drag/drop programs into the program list and edit the rules for them. Under the port tab you can list the info for your redirection.

The server information for Heaven's Tear is:
    Hostname: pwigc4.perfectworld.com

    64.74.134.38:29000
    64.74.134.39:29000
    64.74.134.59:29000
    64.74.134.60:29000
    64.74.134.61:29000
    64.74.134.62:29000
    64.74.134.63:29000
    64.74.134.64:29000

Now, if you drag/drop elementclient.exe into the programs tab you should be able to edit the rules. Navigate to the ports tab to enter the above numbers like this

    hostnameOrIP:29000=NEWPORT

    newport being the redirect port...

and it should handle the redirections for you. However I'm not sure which port you can tell it to use. D:

The program was specifically designed for this kinda thing but it's still not really my area, and seeing as I can't test your ports or have you go through an exhaustive list you may just have to tamper with it.

Note: If you have windows 7, installing it may disable Firefox, but not Internet Explorer. Uninstall/restart to fix. ~.~ *learned the hard way*

Well you could try some sort of proxy server like this
    http://www.proxycap.com/index.html

    May or may not work

You're not going through a proxy with widecap - it's an option but that's not what we're trying to do with it. We're just dealing with redirecting ports on your own system. You're still connecting with your own ISP- Proxies are used when people want to remain anonymous and are usually doing vicious things.

We're basically creating a relay for your ports, not modifying any information about you as the connection.

According to one of the earlier admin posts, Perfect World requires TCP ports 29000-30000 to be open (i.e. not blocked by a firewall.)

Firebind now has a test for Perfect World.

    http://www.firebind.com/pwi

By clicking on the link it will launch a java applet that will test all 1000 ports to confirm whether or not your PC can reach those ports on the Internet or not. If you can't reach the Firebind server over a given port or range of ports, then it's almost a certainty you couldn't reach the Perfect World servers over those same ports.

My guess is they are blocking PW for a reason, most likely to conserve bandwidth.

But your best bet is to call the Concierge and explain what you want. If the place you are staying is anything but a hayseed motel 6, you might be surprised at the lengths a good Concierge will go.

Otherwise you are most likely not going to be able to play PW. Even if you could get a proxy to work, it would most likely be way too slow, besides setting you up for a ban.

Yeah I am at the other place tonight, and can connect here without it, could never get anything figured out last night. I am sure if I talked to them during the day, I could get the system admin to open it up, but, being as I was trying at midnight, I am sure no one working knew anything about network administration.
