The patch notes for the upcoming patch seems somewhat unusual.
Patch Notes Version 551
Released August 16, 2011

General
Client has been upgraded for upcoming connectivity features.

It's not "minor localization changes" but it also doesn't sound like anything new will be available at least at first.

What do you all think this means?
Core connect integration maybe? PWI Radio? Voice Chat? New Facebook Ads in game? Cross server events? Some boring server infrastructure to fix rankings?

    Hopefully it means at least a better UI. And i'm guessing it's going to have some kind of ranking system/core features since they took the pvp kills down too. They also mentioned that they wanted to use the PWI arena for more events. I'm just guessing but I"m thinking all of this is related. Radio would explain while the sound files have been wonky too, so that could be upcoming.

    all i hope for is they dont **** it up and make it take waaaayy more cpu than it alrdy does or somehow detect multiple clients or w/e <.<

    I think it has something to do with more info on how good the connection is. Like a 'ping' except better? Perhaps they'll add the little lights back onto the launcher that say whether or not a server is online, lol...

    It used to be there, but all it did was link you to a site called Slacker radio... wasn't even as good as Pandora.

    I don't really care as long as it isn't annoying, or can be turned off if it is...

    It's allowed now, I don't think that will be taken away. Heh I consider multi-client, the best allowed "feature" this game has.

    My worst nightmare

    pwi + facebook becoming more "connective"

    Now pms from facebook will pop up in game!

    I remember reading a few months ago though, that pwi developed some cross server technology stuff, was pretty exciting at the time but haven't seen anything about it. Maybe they are moving closer to merging servers, or creating a way to xfer servers.

    I am sad to say because I am really fond of this game, that it will be something people will have big hopes for and will turn out to be something with 'meh' value. b:shutup

    It's probably there to first fix things such as the rankings. From there it'll most likely connect with the other features that are already developed, such as Core Connect.

    I can't see the ingame advertisements, as cashshoppers prevent that. Plus advertisement loading can slow down the game.


    I can see PWI radio and voice chat being integrated in the future, but not anytime soon. Sure PWI had a radio feature before, but they need to improve on that. Big time.

    Just a few thoughts myself.
