New to PW (but not to MMORPG games)

Hi all,

Atm im downloading PW, I will be a big newbie to PW.

But I do have some experience with these type of games. For example I played Knightonline for a large number of years. But due all hacking and bad support I ended the game 6 months ago.

After a complete break of games I m ready again to play a new MMORPG.
PW looks great to me.

I'm a big fan of PvP. First get the character to a good level, get nice gear and items and then play against people. Thats my goal.

The game is still being downloaded, but I assume there are multiple servers to choose from?
Which is best to join, most active etc.?

I understand that every character has its pro's and con's. I have played all types at Knightonline but I was best with Clerics/Priests. Im good at supporting others, healing and buffing etc.

But is that a good class to play in PW also? What i mean is, can people play without a cleric in their parties? Or are they really needed? And are there a lot of clerics or is it a needed class? The problem with clerics is mostly the lack of AP (attack power) so i need others to help me kill mobs. or people?

I like to play with other people. So I dont mind to start a supporting class. But what is best that I can start? Which is needed during parties in PvE nd PvP, and what classes are needed in the server i can join the best?

I hope someone can help me out with my questions..

First things I need to do is to choose a server and character/ class. The gameplay, skills, items and all I will be learning during the road of playing and finding out. But a bad choose in server or character can be huge... so I hope pro people can push me in the right direction.

Thanks in advance!!

id stop installation, game isn't worth the effort to new players, community sucks, developers don't care for their playerbase, updates are next to none, no endgame content, you can level up to max lvl (105) in a week or so, etc. The only purpose of this game now is to milk the wallets of anyone foolish enough to stay after 3 years.

If I knew back then what the game would turn into today, I wouldn't have started playing this game.

Cleric's in PWI are more like 'White Mages' but they can actually do damage. Some what squishy unless geared well, but hit hard.

There are some high end squads that can bast through quite a few instances at endgame without a cleric, but for the most part only the most absurd of characters could do everything without a cleric (Generally BMs/Sins in full +11/12 gear). At the point they get that far though, farming seems a bit silly IMO (Hah, my Character worth 5 Billion coins can now make an extra 2mil a day in Nirvana >: )

Will be in demand for most of the game, and are quite effective at solo (not as offensive as other casters, but have nice buffs, and can heal them selves making them better at soloing than a lot of other classes).

If you want to PvP anymore, you want to be R8/9 (Rank Gear - Gained at 100-101). Depending if you want 1v1/RPK or group/Territory War pk also varries. Assassins at end game with good gear are just monsters in open PvP, but suck for TW (mass PvP). Not to mention leveling a sin is probably the most painful class and there's 370453578 of them, so most squads will have too many to start with. If you want to be good in TW , Archers, Wizards and Psychics rule there.

IF you don't mind random PK, choose a PvP Sever (Lost City or Harshlands) other wise pick the server with the best Ping, or one with friends on it (if any).

ow **** that sucks... sounds familair to knightonline....
(what you said was main reason I quitted and an incident which made it impossible to play: got **** because they **** the database (not me personal) stole all my items and after contacting support they didnt help me)

maybe have an other good alternative MMORPG to play?

honestly I haven't found one that entertains me (only reason why i'm still here really)

I've gotten kinda into minecraft (on a multiplayer server) tho lol

I mean feel free to try to get into this game, but I really don't see the point, its a rush to endgame then spend countless hours farming your enggame gear (or spend thousands of real life money) then get bored because of no content and quit.

you might have some fun if your not into pvp, but if it's pvp your after.. you will find this game more frustrating than fun.

Or, you know you could PLAY the game and level that way. The Problem is PLAYERS would rather power level to 100 and then be like '**** I got no gear and can't find squads, QQ Rage quit".

Yeah. PWI has few too many sales, but it's the PLAYER BASE that would rather buy their levels than gain them by PLAYING the game.

Because dropping 200-500-3000 dollars on a game and getting 100 with good gear in 1 week is better than actually playing the game. As you know, PWI puts a knife to your throat and is like "Over charge your credit card at get R9 or else !".

If you left your previous game because of bad support, I suggest you read a few pages of this forum to get an idea of the kind of game and customer support there is (or lack thereof) on PWI.

Check out posts by frankieraye to get an idea of the weight GM's have in regards to asking for patches/fixes/etc. Very little.

Find posts about the FC glitch, censored names, powerleveling, cash-shoppers (gamble packs specifically), rank 9 gear and you'll get a good idea of what awaits you.

If after all that you still wanna try it or if you feel masochistic, I'd suggested the Tideborn or Earthguard races, as the old ones aren't being maintained up to par with the new ones, which are made by new developers who don't, as I understand it, have access to the source code that would allow them to adapt the old races/classes to the new changes that have been made. You find out why in the class sub-forums.

I'm not gonna tell you not to play, but I'm gonna tell you to read about this community before you do.

Is this something that fvcks up the whole gameplay or just some people who are having some advantages with their lvl and item by using cheats?

Because I think that every game has its cheaters... but it depands on how massive the cheating part is....

And my goal is to play slow and understand the game before I start PvP...

But the PvP is my main objective.... after I have the max lvl I want to invest time on getting the needed items and go full PvP and Quests for the max lvl (who gives items and all, if there is any?)

Well with the FC glitch, its the method people use nowadays to level to 105 in a week like I mentioned above. Instead of closing the instance they recently made a rule to ban people looking for squads to run this glitch in the world chat (but apparently you can still ask via other methods, and run said glitch without consequence) That in itself shows you the type of management you are dealing with here, pure laziness.

as for PvP, there is gear called Rank 9 basically, its the most overpowered gear in the game. It costs (correct me if I'm wrong) 1,200 ish gold. Gold is an ingame currency to purchase items in the Cash Shop. You can get gold by:

    A. buying it with real money, 1 gold = 1 USD. So the set of engame gear is 1,200 dollars, not to mention refining and sharding costs (refining boosts the stats of your gear, adds attack to weapons, hp to armor, etc, sharding does similar.)

    B. Using ingame coins via Auction House to purchase gold, when the server first opened gold was aprox. 100k each gold if I remember correctly, then the people who run the game started mucking up the game with Packs and other various items and gold started to spike/inflate to what it is today (roughly 1,200,000 coins per gold on my server)

Id say with the age category, on my server anyways, 20-30ish, but they all act like children with over-inflated egos with better pixels.

Quests arent really necessary, they are boring, repetitive, and give obsolete rewards. Every quest in the game is *fly to location, talk to NPC* or *fly to location kill x ammount of mobs *

With the amount of people that are getting rank 9 or is a sin on a pvp server today, it's either get rank 9, or gtfo. Unless you know how to merch it will be extremely time consuming to gather the coins needed to acquire decent pvp gear.

Knights Online pales in comparison to this game. KO is by far one of the worst MMO's that I have played in a long time. The fact that even though USKO is hosted in the United States it's more popular in Turkey then here making the language barrier Huge because about 80-90% of the players don't speak English well so finding a good faction or friend to help you when you need it is next to impossible. Also people want to complain about the updates and GM help in this game. Try playing USKO for about 3 weeks see how much help you get, you pretty much need it after the first 20 minutes of game play because the game is so flawed it's ridiculous. Not to mention that if you don't pay a premium fee or buy from their cash shop then your not able to log on during peak periods because they save it for only the paying players and even if you get on and it's full and a paying player want's to log on then your kicked without warning in whatever your doing. Trust me you will LOVE this game compared to USKO and IMHO the updates on this game compared to other F2P games is rather well. Ive played for 3 years now and they have release 4 Major updates and several smaller ones, in most F2P experiences Ive had your lucky to get any update every 1-1 1/2 yrs. However that's just my opinion. I also say the only way your going to know is to download, install the game and see for yourself. This games has its flaws but they aren't as large as some other games. People also have to remember Since the American developers don't own or control the game they can't really change anything without the permission or release of new content of the parent developers. They can only work on and report smaller glitches to the parent company. I was a GS for another game hosting site such as this and worked along side the GM's daily and it's nerve racking trying to get anything from the original developers.

*btw ignore my start date and level I rerolled a new character so.....

I'd seriously stay away from this game OP, if you quit a mmo 6 months ago due to the game either destroying it self in some way, over powered gears, cash shop to win, etc, then just stop the installation and delete whats left of it, I've played many MMO's, but this is by far one of the worst run games I've seen, mainly due to the developers, but the PWE company them selfs actually push it along anyway into it's pit of death by caring more for cash then game play, check out the other forums such as LOMA (legend of martial arts) on there games tab, there you will see that the GM's randomly abandoned the game 100%, not been a maint in weeks upon weeks, no patches, nothing, they just leave the game open for those willing to spend money on it for there own pockets.

This game on the other hand is there flagship game, so they do these tiny things to make it seem like they give a hoot about there playerbase, when really they don't, e.g there last expansion, they gave us 50% of it, promised us lots of content and we got nothing, the only thing we got, was just the new classes and a new area for low-mid levels which isn't used that much anyway, they eventually released a new dungeon which we were suprised about, only to find out that it's a copy and pasted dungeon, just filled with an army of mobs to run in and aoe them for exp, I personally think it was just so they could sell there chrono bike, or at least, the pack that has an insanely low chance of obtaining the chrono bike, just because they wanted a reason to see why the hell a motorbike is in a chinese style game where we don't even have guns.

Unless you want to spend several years on this game endlessly farming, or spend several thousand dollars just to PvP, then stay away, because PvE on this game is just a total snooze, you're better off on a private server, no joke, because that's what PWI pretty much is due to it's insane power levelling and getting all your gear/money in packs.

if you look for a pvp game you are totally wrong here
if you look for a good quick lvling you are in a right place
if you want to be a factor in pvp you have to spend huge bulk of money but tbh better buy a new car for it

game is good company that is runing is totally screwed it

My advise after reading the above posts is to just install the game, and try it out for yourself. If you don't like the game, just uninstall it, and move on from it. Personally, I like the game. By the way, levelling isn't as easy as they make it out to be. Yes, you can level really fast with hyper stones, and fc runs, just following behind a well geared endgame type player, but the game has more to it then that.

Personally, I play on a cleric as my main. So, I'll tell you that clerics can attack and defend. Since our healing power is so strong, our attack magic has to be equally strong. Clerics in this game specialize in a wide array of heals, buffs, and debuffs. They also specialize in metal based (Really wind and lighting, lol.), and phyiscal based damage. They do not have the same magic power as wizards or psychics, but they are by no means helpless. They are VERY MUCH wanted in squads, especially clerics that have proven themselves to be good clerics.

Regarding Pvp, the top classes there tend to be assasins, and psychics. This is not to encourage you to play as either, but I will say that those two classes seem to have the most advantages in PvP. Clerics can pvp, but in my opinion, other classes would be a better choice for pvp, although there are certain clerics that can do pvp with the best of them.

All in all, I would encourage you to finish installing the game, and try it out. If you like what you see, then play it, enjoy it, and have fun with it. If not, uninstall it, and move on from it. Aside from the downloading time, you don't have much of anything to lose by just trying it out.

Hope that advise helps, and what you do is up to you. Take care, hopefully you will enjoy the game, and have a nice day.

Sidenote: <----Also biased towards dreamweaver. Lol.

Hey there diablo. I'd like to start out as to saying welcome to Perfect World International and I hope your stay will be a good one. As an old player from Lost City, I can tell you right now that there are ups and downs to this game (sometimes alot of downers) but I agree with everyone in saying try the game out and hopefully you end up running with a group of good players (not by skill but good will players) that will be there for ya like how my former faction used to be. If you plan on joining Harshlands server feel free to contact me and I will try to help out as much as I can.

from my experience, every forum is a haven for people that complain about the game, if your asking about if a game is good on a forum, the general answer i would expect to get is no because of (insert reason game is bad here), in fact i would enjoy getting that answer rather than no answer because it means the game still has life in it

that doesn't mean i'll defend the company or the game to death, and in my opinion the complaining people bring about the most change to the game for the better, but i just don't think it's a wise idea to ask the forums about if the game is good

that being said, pwi is an amazing game, the pvp in pwi is fine, 1 vs 1 and pking leans a bit more towards assassins though but there's always pking in groups and tw

about cash shopping to r9 and everything like that, unless your really hardcore about your character and want to make it an absolute monster in everything you do, i don't think it's really necessary
