The filter/censor issue has been resolved. Congratulations PWE, on finally learning how to solve an issue that I can do in five minutes on my PC. I'm sure you are very proud to have lost many players from this issue, and loosing great profit for your SUVs. b:victory

    At least they solved it. Better than nothing, as they say.

    That said, one month and a half (thanks for counting, I would never bother) for an initiative (planned and implemented WITHOUT community participation/referendum AGAIN) still is a darn lot of time though... b:surrender

    It just all seems a bit pointless to me. Frankie himself said that the filter's been reverted damn near to what they started with. Why fix something that isn't broke?

    1) People complained about the MASSIVE problem with swearing, softcore sex, and... Other NC-17 movie type content happening in World Chat and demanded some kind of moderation (you know, like moderators)
    2) PWE, being the smart people they are, implemented the 'human replacement solution' (HRS), the 'improved swear filter', without testing it, or caring that 99% of the people who wanted World Chat moderated wanted it done by something or someone with more intelligence than a carrot
    3) The HRS was implemented during a time coinciding with a 2X event. Since the HRS was untested, it wasn't forseen that the swear filter would actually prevent people with 'offensive' or 'resembling offensive' names from joining squads. This caused a Pyroclastic Flow of QQ.
    4) The HRS was shot with a .22 rimfire, in order to tame it some, and make the game 'playable' for players with 'offensive' or 'resembling offensive' names that were censored. This still... Left things that weren't broken before the HRS, broken.
    5) Seeing that the HRS was an unsuitable replacement for a Human Being, the swear filter (hahaha Grasshopper) has been 'returned to what it was before step 2' of this post.

    And now, we have gone full circle, there's still rampant issues on World Chat, and there is never a real human being watching (or caring) about it. Granted, it's not QUITE as bad as it was 6 months ago, but, it still isn't suitable for a 13 year old, whom would be allowed to view it under PWE's TOS.

    Thanks for summing it up, I guess I missed the threads complaining. Still, PWE'd save a lot of hassle if they'd just fix things properly. And to be honest, it's not a filter we need. If anything there should be someone watching world chat. You can't censor pointless raging, QQ, sexual **** on world chat but it's always the same old people. How many people have been advertising and openly admitting to using and abusing the frost glitch? Yes people are getting banned, but if it's still shouted out loud and proud then clearly not enough action is being taken.

    I was talking about the fact that even reporting the ones I mentioned above would change nothing. But yes, you are right as well.

    It's just a matter of no long-term management (in that case) and no rule enforcing. Once the higher ups finally show some fangs, people QQ to no end; that said this filter ended causing a lot of collateral damage.

    I like a lot how things are handled here. I wish that was the same in game. *sigh*

    I don't think it's the fact that if we reported, nothing would get done. I think it's more to do with the fact that in 99% of cases, it simply isn't reported. In my experience that "Report Hacking" button does bugger all, but nobody likes to take the time out of their gameplay to screenshot and file out a ticket. I just think PWE should pay someone to.. umm.. play 'pwi police' if you'll excuse my bad metaphor. That and improve their in-game report system.

    It comes down to a few points on this.
    • PWE refuses to let people from the community do ANY kind of in-game moderation, even minor stuff
    • They are afraid of banning too many of their 'bigger customers'. I'm sure some of the biggest offenders here are big spenders. You don't bite the hand that feeds you. (But, this is a double edged sword, by not banning people like this, they may be driving off 5-20 other people who may spend just as much, or more, than that one person does)
    • PWE itself is more focused on their other games. FW, JD, etc. Their best staff have left PWI for newer games, as has been seen in the past.

    So... It's pretty much a lost cause getting WC moderated. Personally, I'm torn between wanting it just shut off, or the censor put back (lol). There's no winning with PWE, and honestly, it's not just PWE's fault, Wanmei is behind at least some of it.

    I had thought about the need in-game rule enforcers for a long while, so I wholeheartedly agree with you on that. That said, will it really be effective since fools are used to be... irritating (it can go far when it comes to it, indeed) and not caught for it? That is the question.

    Oh, I guess I meant PWE and Wanmei, keep forgetting they're 2 different companies. It's a pity though. PWI is one of those one-of-a-kind games that are insanely addictive and last for years. They're killing this old hag, though. b:sad

    @Lesthar - You do have a point. These world chat crazy abusers have been running rampant so long, I guess theres little we can actually do.

    I think we should be able to turn a swear filter on/off, because I for one would much prefer to be able to swear and read the swear words, rather than constant "****"'s all the time.

    Why wait for them when you can do it yourself? Unpack configs.pck with pwpack.exe (google it), edit badwords.txt, repack and it's done. They have no way of knowing that you did it.

    It's easy to do, and takes less than 2 minutes since it's a really small file. This could/should have been done immediately once they realized there was a problem with that new filter. Edit the file, emergency restart to apply the fix to everyone and it's done. Instead a lot of people were unable to play during more than a month. It shows the lack of communication and organization in that company, plus their total disrespect of the players/customers.

    You forget that after most of the affected players were corrected, they demanded a screenshot in a ticket (showing the censoring), prior to offering any compensation which (as far as I know) has yet to be revealed. Alas, no time machines were provided.

    Well, since I couldn't prove my affected characters were affected due to frankie not linking the thread till after the maintenance started that fixed the problem... b:surrender

    You're welcome. Of course this was purely informative. Even though it's only client side, those files are not checked and noone besides you can see it you will never try to modify them, since you perfectly know that it's against the ToS.
    They're the champions of hypocrisy, it's going to be very hard but we can try to get to their level.
