Hey guys and girls. I've been playing PWI on and off over the years and I want to get down n get serious. I already got 3 friends together and we're all rolling new characters. I want to play as the tank of the group and I know Barbs are the best bet for a darn good good tank. However I've never played one and I got no idea what I should focus on, Stat and Gear wise. I already made a Wolf Barb, just cuz I love wolves, but there isnt any difference in the characters if I choose a Panda, or Lion is there?

Right now im thinking about lvling with my stats as

Vit 3
Str 1
Dex1

I'm not sure if this would be a very good idea, so would any good barb tanks out there please help me out and give me some good advice? And thanks in advance everyone!

Grats on your decision to roll a barb! The stickies have a lot of good information on them.

The stats that you listed won't meet the requirements for any up to level gear. There's a post on one of the stickies (here: http://pwi-forum.perfectworld.com/showpost.php?p=667821&postcount=2) that lists the minimum stats that you'll need to wear gear. With the stats you've listed, it looks like you're working for the vit build, so the excess points in that chart you'll want to throw at vit. While it's a very viable build, do note that your damage will suffer somewhat as a result. More discussion on that can be found in the various guide stickies and threads on holding aggro.

And no, there are no differences between wolf, panda, tiger, and lion barbs.

if you did 1 dex every level thats too much. you only need 55 strength end game gear. so I suggest
    3 vit/2 str and 3 vit/2 str/1 dex every other level.

    no all is fail wow

ok u have to divide the stats in two lvs.

    1 lv would we 3str 1dex 1vit

and 2nd lv would we 3str 2 vit

and there i have a tank build barb for its current lv gear

each two lv its 6str 3vit 1 dex

The other barbs here know their stuff, however, there is also one other school of thought that hasn't been noted.

Instead of just a static build all the way through, Fuzzy knows a few barbs who have focused quickly (but not too quickly) into dex early in the game for the extra accuracy and begin to even it back to a normal vit or hybrid build around 40+. As a barb you may quickly notice how important this can be

Yep, this is a good advice, i capped dex around 54 very fast. I had 60 dex for +1% with equipment

I also raised STR earlier instead of VIT, cuz we already get so much of it by quest rewards and new level. So i decided to pump up where i was less powerfull, damage and accuracy.

I used to use blood bath when flesh ream wasnt 100% accuracy, but since now it will always hit, you dont need to level it until you will starts serious duels/pk. Which imo shouldnt start before 80. I said serious

I recall i had 40 dex by lvl 20, andn ow i have maybe 50 odd, i cant remember off the top of my head,

    but thats just me

6str 3 vit 1 dex is the basic minimum, if you wanted to you could try out 6str 2vit 2 dex, but i'd recommend looking at your gear and allocating stat points based on your gear

Ok cool, thanks for the advice everyone, but I probably should've been more specific on what I was looking for.

What would be a good spec design for

PvE: Solo, Hybrid, Group Early Levels 1-49, High Levels 50-120

    Pvp: Solo, Hybrid, Group

Tanking Gear: Pike, Club, Poleblade, Polehammer, Poleaxe, Dual-Wield (Blades, Hammers Axes)

I'm going to be leveling my barb pretty much by myself for awhile anyways, So a Hybrid build might be more suited to what I'm looking for right? Again sorry for my earlier post, I really should've been more specifc.

Exactly how I built my barb...rolled it up to 40 dex pretty fast, then tapered off the dex points. Nothing hurts a barb more than setting up a big hit just to see "MISS" flash on the screen...especially if it's an armageddon. I'll admit I'm not a high dmg nor a high hp barb, just one that can tank or DD if tasked to do so.

Ok so focusing on Dex until its at 40 dont sound entirely too bad, and from your guys make it sound like, i can pretty much even things out pretty easily After it reaches 40. What would I want t focus the most on though after wards? Str or Vit?

You will always be adding 3 str a level for your weapon, in my opinion that is plenty of strength. I'd put the rest into vit, as barbs get the highest HP per Vit in the game. Besides, you'll need it for certain bosses.

I hope by 'focusing' on dex you mean you will still be adding 3 Str per level.
