What exactly makes a good faction?

Hello there, first I'd like to say this is the first time I have ever used a forum so if I do something wrong don't be afraid to say "you're doin' it wrong".

A little bit of background info in case you're interested: About 2 weeks ago I started to be more active on this game since a friend of mine wanted to play. I already had an account before becuase my other friend KuiXing (who is epic 101 wizzy) talked me into joining. She always talked about her faction of the time, in fact drama or TW drama. She made this game sound so much more fun then what I had experienced (probabaly since I am a complete noob). I got to thinking maybe it was because she had a good faction.

The real question/topic: I created a faction just so no one would invite me to their fact (i feel terrible for turning down any kind of invitation) but in the end I figured maybe I really could create a small closely-knit fact of my own. But, I don't exactly know what makes a good faction in this game so I ask you fellow PWI players what you think makes a 'good faction' and any tips for me a complete noob, on how to make my fact one that people will willingly join!

Whoa quite a few replies in one day, awesome!

Just make sure your faction has a common goal, and make sure to invite alot of people.b:cute

Other than that, there's nothing really holding you back from making an excellent faction.

Make sure you know certain things before hand, and make them clear for your faction.
Are you inviting all lvls, or only above a certain lvl.
What do you expect from the people that join? Do they have to lvl fast, or doesn't it matter..?
Should the faction help out eachother on all sorts of things?
And what are the rules, per example random pk is or isn't allowed etc.

In the end the people that join will make or not make a good faction :) It's always good to let your members know what you expect from them, and what your goals are.

People will come and will go, some are looking for different kind of factions. I personally have been in quite some different factions to see what suits me better. Been in a TW faction for a short while, been in a faction that was building up to do TW, and atm in a smaller faction where people actually get to know eachother.

    - Leader/officers have to be active
    - Officers should be well chosen
    - You may need a forum
    - Define a goal that you work for and set up a faction infrastructure around it
    - Treat members with respect and make them clear that you and the officers expect the same
    - Don't shoulder too much on your own as leader/officers. Often it is simple work though that has to be done to make a "good" faction and that isn't always fun.
    - Help the members without neglecting your own goals or that of higher level players
    - Come together in vent/skype. This game is a social event after all xD
    - Take care how the faction appears to possible recruits

Some points that came to my mind spontaneously

i think, to have a good faction, you have to have good people. lol that sounds so lame. haha.

ok what i mean is, people play this game to have fun, but if they play alone they can lose interest fast. this is the main reason factions are made for, communication with other players in the game.

to me, a good faction would have to be entertaining. and by that i mean an active guild chat. on my veno, when the faction starts talking, we can really get crazy and say stupid stuff. its all for the gigglez. everyone loves to have a good time chatting.

but just the chatting is not enough for members. we all play this game to better our characters, so there needs to be a few members (most likely the higher ranked ones, such as leader, director and marshals) that are dedicated to helping their members (like, instances and bosses). these people usually are higher level than most members in a guild (not all the time though) so they are able to help effectively.

if your planning on starting a guild then you should really know a good bit about the game (like said above). theres been tons of updates, you should know what has been added. you should keep in touch with the rest of the PWI community (such as these forums) to learn more things and techniques.

a faction with their own forum boards and event a vent or teamspeak server is another great add on. some people are shy, but once you get a good amount of people talking on vent or whichever, it can make the guild even more loveable.

last but not least, no one likes a jerky leader. be kind to your members, they chose your guild after all! dont be picky if you are just beginning a guild. the best way to kick off a guild is to meet some people and start it with friends.

Feeling like being part of a family :)
I've always prefered a big family type faction over one thats going to TW and focuses on profit.

The most important thing is that you feel at home there and there are no harsh feelings^^

First i think good people makes a good faction. But thats te truth of La Palisse.b:chuckle

But for me i think a faction should have the members of same lvl range to make quests. bh. boss etc.
Second like said above the lider and the officers shoul be higher to help the low. if you start a low lvl fac a lider lvl 60 its good. when i got in pwi i join a small fac the leader(DaBaddest b:kissb:kiss) was lvl 60ish and her hubby (mind b:kissb:kiss) they help us a lot and also lvled them self. was a great small faction where there was several players with similar ranges (40-49, 50-59 etc) so we could do the several bh together. We didnt had any pretenses in going to Tw. we just want to have fun and help each other. and defend each other to. Was trully fun. like a big family.
But the faction felt apart and we went to a bigger one ( awsome one too).
Just need to have good temper. help each other and have fun
Oh and gold law NO DRAMA ALLOWED. thats crucial. cause drama makes bad mood to all. so if a member is creating drama. try to see what is going on and stop the drama ASAP.

Just don't be tooo helpful or else people abuse it really fast and/or get all bitchy and angry when you say no sometimes. For some people, good advices, hints, buffing and so on aren't enough. b:chuckle

What makes a faction good? Well it ultimately just depends on each faction's members and leaders.

Too many bad apples in the faction, and no order in the faction can cause many people to associate your faction with the trouble makers/people with whom they wish to not game with, all too often we all forget that their are people behind the characters, and they have feelings too. Sometimes even too much righteousness from the members can cause a faction to fall apart... namely due to people trying to bring a bit of chaos to the faction. Especially when that righteousness leads to specific people starting things in world chat, over and over again.

Also tread carefully with what rules you come up with, and make sure you do your best to give the same punishment to EVERYONE in faction. Imo an asinine rule would be to require all members to be available every weekend for TWS, be lenient but strict, if people do not abide by the rules you set up, then reprimand them equally. (Three strikes and your out at the old ball game. =o) That rule is often asking too much of you, your members, and officers.

A good leader... leads by example, treat others with respect, and most people will follow you and do the same, likewise if you treat others as if they are the dirt you walk on.

Try to make sure its a place where everyone wants to come, make sure its an active environment, and people aren't there just to be in a faction, too many people off doing their own things is just asking for people to get upset and leave, do it as a whole as much as possible. :)

A faction with a bad reputation can make a WHOLE lot of good players shy away from your faction, so if your faction members are constantly bashing other people/factions, then expect drama to happen whether you started it or not. It is a lot less obvious with a good strong faction, that everyone likes. (Potential recruits go where they feel they will have the most fun/least annoyances.)

One more thing to be aware of... always know that no matter how hard you try you wont be able to keep everyone 100% happy, whether they are in your faction or not.
