I like playing classes that keep their range (Wiz, Mystic, Etc.) but now ive decided to change the pace from a Magical Range type Character to a Melee range character. So all i wanted to know was is the Archer really a good class to put the time into?

I think you are confusing the meaning of "melee" with "physical". Melee actually means close up and pointblank. Well since Archer's the only ranged physical class, you don't really have other choices if you want to play a physical ranged class.

archers are a lot of fun!

but you have to be very clever and tactical to play one (... play one well). an archer can freeze, stun, slow, reduce maximum hp and use knockback. the problem with archers though is they don't really open up and come into their own untill around lv70.

also there are not a lot of bosses you can solo because of the low armor rating of light armor and the fact that you do reduced damage up close.

however after lv70 there aren't a lot of mobs that can even get close to you to hurt you, you become very valuable for bosses because of your STA and you can rain down a crit storm of death with your BOA (very satisfying).

so i guess to answer your question. yes. archers are worth playing, just be prepared to deal with our flaws aswell.
    patience is a virtue

I started PWI with a cleric cuz I love helping people. She's 92nd lvl now and still fun. I started an archer a few months ago when my normal playing partner wanted to try a cleric. I have had a blast playing an archer. The only trouble as I see it is that I rarely play my cleric anymore!

I have that similar story xD I made my Cleric before my Archer and I wanted to keep them at the same level since I like shooting things as well as healing people. Turns out my Archer is about 20+ lvls ahead of my Cleric xD

Archer is a FUN FUN FUN--shot--ahem- class. Your feathery shell of justice will save your life 'cause you're gonna be one hell of a squishy character (depending on your build that is.) But like what's said a few posts above mine, we don't show our "true potential" until around the 70s. We may have less skills, but the skills we have can higher our survival rate 'cause of our stuns, knockback arrow and what not. As long as you don't steal aggro you're as good as gold!

Yep archer is a lot of fun.At low lvls maybe it seems harder but as others say you will see the difference at higher lvl. Also at endgame in my opinion archer is very viable having both nice aoe damage with BOA and also nice damage with fist/claws aps.:)

Odd, I never had any problems at lower levels. Usually the only time I would die was in a squad and then only if I wasn't squaded with my favorite partner cleric. Having played a cleric for so long, an archer was a breeze since I've never really noted a weakness in them like the cleric's aversion to ranged physical attacks. Heck, I've even tanked where I thought I had no chance of surviving. Hurray for Knockback and Frost Arrows! Oh and my all-time fav, the Barrages of Arrows!
