Refining level

If I want to refine a lets say weapon with mirage celstones, will it always succeed the first time? Or is your weapon level also the refining level? What make a level 1 weapon will succeed and a level 4 weapon maybe. So in fact is there a difference between weapon level and refining level? And is it worth to refine your weapons once?

dont refine till 60 or 70+, its expensive at low lvl you wont notice much a difference and the %sucess is so bad, that orbs are really the way to go

The chances of a weapon refining is extremely extremely godly low it's not even funny after +4

But there are ways to make it higher... Duke Blacke (God in Perfect World... yea, not that PangGu guy) can make it happen.

If you aren;t using any aids (dragon orbs, etc), I believe the refine rate is as follows:

    +1 = 95% chance of success
    +2 = 50%
    +3 = 25%
    +4 = 10%
    +5 = 5%
    +6 = 1%
    +7 = .5%
    +8 = .25%
    +9 = .1%
    +10 = .05%
    +11 = .025%
    +12 = .01%

If you fail once, you're refining gets set back to 0, however, the chance of succeeding still follows the above chart. Example = you manage to succeessfully refine your weapon to +2, however, you fail to get +3. Your weapon is set back to 0, but the chances of getting it to +1 again is 10%. There are items in the boutique that can help this.

Mind you, this is off the top of my head, so I could be mistaking the exact percentages...

Correct refine rates are as follows:

    http://www.pwdatabase.com/pwi/items/12980

100% success rate on gear refined to level 0. (ignore this since everything starts at level 0)
25% success rate on gear refined to level 1.
10% success rate on gear refined to level 2.
4% success rate on gear refined to level 3.
1.67% success rate on gear refined to level 4.
0.77% success rate on gear refined to level 5.
0.47% success rate on gear refined to level 6.
0.25% success rate on gear refined to level 7.
0.13% success rate on gear refined to level 8.
0.07% success rate on gear refined to level 9.
0.04% success rate on gear refined to level 10.
0.02% success rate on gear refined to level 11.

Basically, it's designed so that it's always worth it to pay for and use a dragon orb to guarantee success.

That's for a Cheinkun stone...which is used to transfer refine rates from one item to another. It has nothing (really) to do with the actual refining of an item, at least, I'm pretty sure it doesn't. They aren't even implemented in PWI yet....

And here's the table made from data gathered from lots and lots of people refining stuff.

    http://pwi-wiki.perfectworld.com/index.php/Refining#Refining_Without_Dragon_Orbs

The conclusions, more or less, were that it is cheapest to use no aids until you get to +3 then to start using refine aids. Assuming you can get them during sales, use ocean orbs from +8 onwards.

High levels items has low success of refinement, low levels have higher chance of success in refinement. However do take note that when ur low level, u leveled fast and means u need to change a new set of equipments really soon, hence it's not advizable to refine using low level items, many people really refine their items, with an aid item, for example, dragon orb 1 star, to 100% guaranteed the success.
