Why do you play cleric?

What is the reason you choose to play a cleric? Especially if this isn't your first cleric, what made you come back?

Personally I view it as more of a challenge. I play a 90+ wizard as well, and it's a lot easier to do things in squads than it is on my cleric.

Worrying about who to heal, when to heal, what heal to use, who has aggro, who might steal aggro, etc. is more of an engaging activity. On my wizard all I really do is decide what element skills to use and tab around mobs.

Because it was a good class to play before irresponsible aggro stealers came in...

Back then i could say "Oh yeah, you're only alive cause you have my ih every 2 seconds"...

Now it only applies in rebirth runs, because it is the only one that needs some time to be completed...

I have to agree with this pretty much word for word! I also have a 90+ wiz too how weird :D

    1. Needed in squads.
    2. Relatively cheap (doesn't have to save up for 5 aps), perfect for a non-cash shopper like me.
    3. I find healing FUN.
    4. I like to help others.
    5. Good damage, unlike healers in other MMOs. I can 2-3 hit kill non-instance mobs at my lvl.
    6. I love the female Cleric standing pose, it's so elegant. :3

Challenging... not really. Well, not anymore. When I go to an instance the first time in my life I am so nervous I forget the skill order on my skillbar, lol. But once I get used to an instance, everything is too easy.

Was my first choice since I started and I never had a more challenging time than playing my cleric. I'll never forget the first time I went into TT at 6x... b:sweat

    Right.

Like healing in 3-2 or 3-3 is not challenging.
    Or duoing Belial.

If you are in a 5aps squad, of course it's not challenging, since you don't even have to heal...
Some instances, where you are required to heal and are not a mere spectator, are always a challenge since the boss can oneshot you.

This is my first Cleric/Character here on Perfect World.

I chose to play as a cleric because:
You can fly from level one. (The main reason...plus the Cleric's description was more appealing than the archers. Lol.)
Clerics can use both magical and physical attacks.
I liked the idea of being able to self heal early on.
Lower cost (regarding armor, and weapons).
I thought that it would give a good mix of magical attacks, and physical attacks as well. (I was looking for a balance...which I later found out that my venomancer is a little more capable of being, due to her pet. Lol.)
I'm usually a loner, and I truthfully wasn't thinking about squad play at all. (Healing others as I pass by is nice though.)

These are the main reasons that I can think of now. If I think of anything else, I'll try to post it.

I never go to 5aps squads anymore. Once my friend took me to 5aps Nirvana and I felt bad because no one needed my heals and I got money for doing nothing (well, only debuffing). I only go with my friends and faction who are not cash shoppers and no one can afford 5aps. Even if we're slow, I don't find it hard to heal, I really enjoy every second. To me challenging means hard, difficult. Maybe I'm wrong, English is not my native language.

And for TT 3-x, I don't really know because I rarely go there. Last time I was in 3-something, we had 2 Clerics, so it was easy and no one died. I usually go to 2-2 and 2-3, I could heal there with closed eyes, I got used to it.

Well, In real life I'm a medical person working as an EMT and in ICUs so find a class that fits "you" in real life, I thought cleric would be the best fit. It sort of is and sort of isn't. I'm the leader type and you'd think clerics would be the leader of a squad and in charge of how things play out while keeping everyone safe, but they really aren't. Cleric's are alot more about reacting to what others are doing and saving their butts. Whether its following a barbs lead, or predicting what a DDer is going to do. Thats both part of the fun and part of the frustration. You're not in control of whats happening but at the same time you have to read it, predict whats going to happen, and pick up the pieces to keep everyone safe.

I keep hearing clerics describing their class as challenging then following it up with a comment about not feeling needed. Cleric's are kind of my "take a break" class when I want to kick back and relax and sort of veg. As a barb I feel the pressure of keeping everyone safe, being the leader, and keeping all aggro on me. As a DD I try planning out the best strategies for taking out mobs without pulling aggro, or maybe with pulling aggro and not dieing. Also I have to constantly watch to make sure I'm not doing something stupid the cleric has to heal me for or that I have to protect the cleric from. The cleric is the "watch, predict, and react" class so its sometimes a nice break.

Lastly, I think one of the reasons I play every class is because I see people doing it poorly. See enough bad clerics and you go "I can do that better" and feel good about yourself when you do and people tell you how awesome of a cleric you are. I made my cleric because I knew I would play the class excellent.

Started as Revive, Buff, Puri, Healing slave for my main box toons.
Now I enjoy playing it but only when I don't mind being constantly on top of things.

Loving Sage Magic Shell, Vanguard Spirit, Revive, Elemental Seal, etc, and since I'm a hyper nub: going back and discovering skills I missed like Wellspring Surge. I still have yet to check out the sleep like skills. I'm supposed to be investing in my Assassin, but this Cleric is sapping me.

It's sweet being able to amp the dmg output of a Mage so much! Spirits Gift, Elemental Seal, and Sage Magic Shell b:dirty . Now to mage tank a World Boss!

Honestly, at first I started off as a veno, but I switched to cleric because, well, I wanted to fly. b:chuckle But I grew to adore the class. So much so that now I stink at other classes. b:surrender I think being a cleric is the hardest, yet easiest job (especially depending on how pro or fail the squad is.) I've realized that, for example, 89+ FC is sort of a pain especially with more than one sin stealing aggro from the barb.

But it's nice to always be needed :) Clerics rarely get turned down for things. Plus, when grinding, all we really need are mana pots.

I started a cleric cuz I like helping people. In my opinion, as Sakubatou said before me, cleric the class that has no word in squads but we are always needed. The fact is, that some people think about us like "heal-machine" is simply a shame. I know that we are the main healers of the game but I can freak out when I don't see anything else in squad chat but:
    "buff"
    "heal"
sometimes I write in: shouldn't I clean your room and bring you food?
Then they realize that I'm a person and they say, Akai buff please.
    Aso... -.-
I started the cleric because I can lvl it up fast. Actually in the beginning I died a lot of times,
but it was fine I could work it out. And now I won't stop till 100 b:chuckle
After lvl 40, the cleric lvls really fast, cuz you are needed in all squads.
And of course when I play my assassin I try not to steal aggro from the barb and not to cause any trouble in BHs, but I was also shocked then couple of cleris said
-Nah, I wanna DD, not heal.
    -WTF LOL
And I brought my main u.u....
So yeah. Cleric is a healer class, you can DD in instances on higher lvls, (90+ FC (FF), or bh59 is good too) but in bh39, 51, you shouldn't just pay attention on the squad. If you wanna shot things down, try Pk.

    -types some drawn out BS-

It all started with me being bored on my bf's retired cleric. I tried leveling a cleric on my own twice, but both times stopped at 31(my 3rd time was successful though, she's currently 67). I really enjoy feeling useful considering my main is a Veno and I don't feel too needed or useful on her. And I really like being able to help people with just one button alone. I like getting thank you's. The Cleric class can be cheap, depends on how you go about it. They are also decent in PvP aspects.

Playing a cleric has helped me with high pressure situations, though I still need to work on a few things. Granted I am afraid for some instances, switching from a DD to a Cleric is a big step.

The overall challenge is nice, though we have to deal with the most idiots, I think the class pays off for itself in a satisfactory way. I feel that most Clerics play because they WANT to, not for some material goals even though that could easily be accomplished.

...because when I first started playing I was a total noob and played it because it was the only class that could fly right away. I ended up falling in love with it though, especially after bhs were introduced and I felt more useful. b:pleased Even after all this time, I still like going back to old school playing every now and then. And I still love his class. Sometimes I just fly around buffing people when i'm bored or go back and try to kill things I couldn't kill on my own before. I love testing my cleric and pushing her to her limits. I think a lot of people who play clerics as their main (and some who do it as their alts for reasons other than wanting/needing buffs and heals and not wanting to have to ask) do it because they love the game so much. This class isn't a class you make because you want to just roflpwn people in pvp, or to farm, I think this class more than all the others you have to play it as your main only if you enjoy the gameplay. Which is why I find that they are also usually the most pleasant class to interact with though I certainly have and love my friends who play a bunch of different classes. I think I have people in my friends list of every class. :3

I joined PW and was pretty unsettled with what class I should play. This is what happened.

Started with cleric > veno > barb > mystic > cleric.

The second cleric was a fresh one, I rerolled a new one because the first cleric had a horrible name.

The thing about me, I love seeing some decent damage numbers and I love healing. I love how PW allows clerics to DD and still heal awesomely, so I chose cleric. The job changes from veno through to mystic was because of listening to others.... Not anymore.

It's challenging but quite fun. Healing squads who are enthused about battling different things, and deciding between AOE heal or BB, spamming ironheart or wellspring, it becomes quite a thrill. More than anything else I've played. Plus, it's a job that not many people play now.

My barb and cleric get PMs to instances all the time, so I guess it's a good thing I came back to play a class I love.

I picked a cleric (Turtliciousx), because out of all the classes, it's the one I could find the most literature on. b:laugh I love learning and I read is the best way to learn, I was originally gonna be a fishy sin, but then I saw how they played and I was all b:shocked "What? That's awful..." Then I actually made my first and I didn't realize till I made the damn thing that I had made a blade master (Turtlicious) b:shutup woops. Then once my cleric got to 20 I wanted to try the only other class that interested me which was the Barbarian (TurtliciousB), He was cool but my Fishy girl friend kept needed me for heals and stuf which forced me tog et back on my cleric.

I will probably now be a cleric for life, because once I invest a day or two into anything, it's what I work on until it's finished. Once my cleric is level 100, I might try the BArbarian.

    But who knows.

    That's my two cents.

My cleric is my first and only character to date (not a surprise since I've only played the games since a couple of days). I picked this class for a couple of really transparant and probably superficial reasons. One was that I wanted a spellcaster that could heal, another one was that I didn't want my character to be human (don't ask me why, I just felt like that that particular day). I did not read on the different classes before picking one and thus pretty much started looking through every single one of them until I thought that these wings actually sounded pretty neat. So because of the heal and the wings (and probably the fact that I like picking this class in other games anyway), I picked a cleric. Actually, the healing thing was a pretty selfish pick at that particular moment. No mather what game I play, if I can't heal myself when I'm out of pots, I feel pretty jossed. But having the ability to heal others is also a thing that I've come to really appreciate (will appreciate it even more later on, I'm sure), especially since it forces me to open up a little socially (I'm an single person RPG player, so suddenly having real players around me instead of all NPCs can feel weird at times, but the talks are worth it). I did get jealous of mystics though, since they also seem to be able to resurrect, even when the other player isn't a squad member.

[About that... I now am able to revive squadmembers, but do clerics also gain the ability to revive random players later on? I've checked the skillmap, but the descriptions are pretty short and I don't seem to find anything. Anyway, I'll probably better redirect myself to the correct topic for this? ^_^"]
