Should I play a mystic and why? :D

Hey everyone on the mystics forum.

I have a veno (retired), cleric (retired), started this barb sometime ago and I was thinking of what character I should play next.

I got to admit, it's quite a tough call. I'm thinking of mystics or bms. Mystics because the plants are so damn cute. And it's like a versatile combination of healer and DD-er and I kinda enjoy that. It would also be a change of pace compared to my barb.

Soooo yes, what are your reasons for and against? :D:D

Looking forward to some awesome replies!

I would say mystic because we are "da bomb". I have a veno (semi-retired). I've had a cleric, archer, and I have a barb, but i really didn't like it. Basically I went mystic, because of the versatility. I love versatility since my veno is HA/AA, and switching from fox to human mode was fun for me. As with my mystic, switching from support to DD mode is just as fun.

However I would have to say the only thing i don't like is the mana usage, but it's gotten better at 75+.

Against? We're an exclusive group and don't need anyone else? Just kidding.
The only draw back is the excessive mana burn. I never have enough.

For? Mystics are pure fun. I enjoy playing my mystic and would recommend the class to anyone.

Give it a shot. I love my mystic. Our damage is decent (alone and with a summon) and you don't always stick to the same role. You could be the main healer for an instance and be just fine, or be a pure DD. It's less monotonous than some other classes. I honestly can't think of any major cons. My mystic is 99 and has 10k mana and the mana burn really doesn't seem that severe anymore, even when I'm constantly refilling a summon.

Mystics are awesome! On that note here are some pros and cons.

    Cons:

    Extreme mana usage

Slightly lower damage output against pvp targets compared to other casters.

Can require lots of planing ahead in a fight to keep alive.

    Pros!

Many forms of CC! (Thicket's CC is one of the best in the game)

Can heal "most" of the endgame content easily.

The things you need a cleric for? Don't worry! you are also the clerics best friend and can basically guarantee no group wipes with your presence.

Great dps on ? bosses because of your Thicket and Storm Mistresses attacks being considered "pet damage" and therefore not reduced.

And last but not least a pvp knock back! It's a CC that will save your butt a million and one times and royal **** off anyone you use it on. *Especially BM's* b:chuckle

But play whichever class you enjoy most friend!

Like others said. It is a very versatile class.

Some things that haven't been said yet:

The skill, Absorb Soul, ignores all shields on the target. So if you shoot it at an archer or cleric with winged/plume shell on them, it will pretend that the shell isn't there and do full damage.

When it comes to healing against any boss that doesn't AOE, Vital Herb can act as a mini cleric that casts AOE Iron Heart.

Once again, on bosses that do not AOE often, Vital Herb can be used at the same time as other plants such as Befuddling Creeper, which slows the attack/cast speed of the enemy and weakens their defenses at the same time.

After 90+, both Sage and Demon Mystics get access to a Sage/Demon skill that has a chance to purify. Sage Break in the Clouds' purify is more reliable though.

Only one con for me is in FF both of our AOE skills which causes some of the mobs pushback, Love the rest about my mystic.

Also notable is that Absorb Soul ignores all psy buffs, and that Thicket, is an extremely effective lead when used on a psy with soul of retaliation or stunning since it can pierce through their buffs because of being counted as a summon and still seal/freeze because of the multiple ticks.

Absorb Soul, It goes right for the soul, every time.

I do wonder if its shield ignoring properties were intentional, or a glitch. Also, Absorb Soul's damage doesn't show up in the damage log, but I don't think that would affect you wanting to play the class.

I think it would be awesome if the animation for Absorb Soul went the opposite direction, from them to you.

Yeah, and while we're trying to make it more name appropriate would be cool if 5% of the dmg done was given to you in mp. But this is pwi, they don't care about the names of their skills making since which is why psys have a skill with the exact same name as a wiz skill and they're nothing alike. xD

Wow, I didn't think that it would receive so many replies.

Hahahaha yes well, I did create a mystic. I love it. Absolutely love it. It's quite amazing really. And I admit, I love magic classes more than physical. Barb somehow got lucky.

I'm still grappling with skills, and most probably will be practising in FB19 or something before I start going for FF. But yeah for now I loveeee it.

As for the mana burn, AHEM, Platinum Spirit Charm ftw! :D I'm lazy that way, I'm sorry. I did the same with my cleric. I LOVE STORM MISTRESS' AOE. Omg, it effing owns.

In the BM thread, everyone is telling me to roll a BM. OMG. Any arguments against BMs? :D Come on, convince me!

I play as a mystic now but i did play as a BM and found it got boring around lvl 30. However as a mystic it has been epic as there is always something to do plus you get awesome skills as a mystic like absorb soul which can do double damage. Also your pet can be a good lure for bosses and the like.:)

lol Check the bm forums more closely, with the recent CC nerf they're basically just sins with less dmg and no stealth.

Those are just a couple. But if you want to play bm because you enjoy the class, then don't let that stop you.
