    I hope you know bit.ly does exactly what tinyurl does (which is simply shorten the url) and the chance of a virus has no difference when using bit.ly

    Everytime I see it used, its to hide a virus. Every. Single. Time. Im going to go ahead and assume that bit.ly has an increased chance of getting you walloped with a virus, thank you very much.

    Tinyurl is recognised by most people for what it is, which is a redirect, few people know that clicking bit.ly will take them somewhere else (Usually a virus :D).

    Why bother going to a url shortening site for a link to use on a forum where you can mask it like this? Because you dont want people hovering over the link and knowing in advance where it leads, thats why.

    Its extra effort to hide the true nature of the link, there is no other reason to do it, it takes mroe time than copy pasting it into the url tags and labelling it as you like.b:bye

    Tinyurl and similar are meant for use where people will have to type out the result manually (Say on an mmo where hotlinking wont work and copy pasting off chat is often not possible), not where they can just click the link and go to the result, it holds no purpose, unless you are hiding something.
