...wow I didn't know that. No wonder my pc didn't improve much with the game and the fan cooling down the core is always at max speed....

What a great revelation I had today...

I detect sarcasm, and a complete inability to understand how this game works. >_>

I am guessing you have a quad core system, and a newer video card, since you mentioned 'new system'.

PWI can ONLY use ONE core. Got that?

Your computer, if it's an i7, will go into 'single core optimized mode', basically, and ramp up the clock for the CPU past it's normal operating point, and put 1, 2, or 3 cores into a force idle mode, to get the most out of your single thread optimized game.

Basically, a 1 ghz CPU can go 2.2 ghz on one core, 1.9 ghz on two cores, 1.4 ghz on 3 cores, or 1.2 ghz on all 4 in this configuration (turbo boost).

If you have a non-Turbo Boost application, or have it disabled, a 1 ghz CPU is 1 ghz.

PWI was designed to run on 2.5 ghz Pentium 4 Prescotts, most of which used Hyper Threading, and Deep Pipeline arch, IE, Netburst. This was horribly inefficient, were more useful as space heaters than anything else, but were fast. Core i7's can ACTUALLY get up to around 4 ghz in single thread, single core mode, the numbers above were just to demonstrate how the tech works, not the actual speeds of it. And you can overclock them faster, if you want, by a % value in the BIOS. i7 also uses HyperThreading, like the P4 did, which means it performs similar, though I don't believe i7 uses Deep Pipeline, but a different architecture (it is similar; i7 combines the Pentium III, Pentium M, Intel Atom, and Core 2 design ideas into one CPU, and thus, has features of all of those CPU's, including the advance stop/start states of Atom/M, HT from P4, scalability and cache diversity form P III/Core 2).

New computers are more efficient. PWI client is very, very inefficient. There's basically NO optimizations in the coding at all for anything, except maybe something for HT support on a basic level. PW will run better on a newer machine, but for the most part, so will all games. I get better FPS in almost every other game, even very very intensive games, compared to PWI.

PW Beijing should do what Blizzard did, and optimize the code for modern computers. I can play their MMO and get 70-100 FPS with maximum settings in the general world, I struggle to get more than 30-40 FPS with max settings in PWI.

They need to add in multiple core support, SLI/Crossfire support, better HT support, and support for AA/AF/other advanced filtering. Without going into my card's control panel and forcing half the features on, PWI only is using 1/10 of my card anyway at full settings, and I get better FPS with all of that stuff forced on anyway. >_> lame.

The game engine is old, outdated and a POS. I have an i7 2600k, 8gb, GTX480 and at any reasonable resolution on my 30" Dell, I get 15fps. The game client is horribly un-optimized.

It runs smooth on my i7 2600k@4,5 ghz and on an unlocked and overclocked 6950
A gtx 480 should perform better than my 6950 :o

What resolution are you playing at? I have a 2560x1600 30" Dell monitor.

I run PWI on a 1920X1080 and a 1280X1024 monitor. Or, PWI on the big monitor and a video on the other one (for when I'm autopathing, something to do while bored).

PWI should be running easily 100+ FPS on my system with max graphics. Except the engine is a pos.

    It shouldn't have any issue.

    I have a

    Compal HEL80 Laptop
    Windows 7 x64
    2GHz C2D Merom
    nVidia 7600 GO w/ 256MBs (350/350MHz core/memory)
    3GBs DDR2 SODIMM 667

I run the game @ 1280x1024 with ~10 FPS in West Archosaur

The system you describe OWNS my system all over the place. If you have issues something is VERY wrong.

I could try playing it at 3760x1600, but PWI would probably break. b:chuckle
