I just logged back in after a hiatas and allowed the system to fully upgrade to 515. This completed successfully. I press Start, the screen blanks, the cursor changes, then I get a Windows message "elementclient.exe has stopped working". The game has crashed and that is as far as I can get.
Any suggestions?

Ok. I've been patient enough! WTH is going on PW? Lots of people having issues with the game - we have uninstalled - reinstalled - installed elementclient - and STILL nothing!

    We would appreciate A C T I O N ! After all actions speak louder than words, right ?

Hard boot your computer and see if the problem persists. There's a memory leak in the launcer's updating process, and if you just did a large update, that's going to be hanging around.

Soft rebooting does not always clear your memory, so to work around this, do a hard reset.

How to do a hard reset.
    1. 1. Shut down Windows.
    2. 2. Remove all power from the PC. (If it's a laptop, pull the battery too.)
    3. 3. Hold down the power button for one full minute.
    4. 4. Plug the power cords back in.
    5. 5. Turn on the system.
    6. 6. Wait for the system to FULLY boot before using it. (Just because you can see your desktop does not mean that it's finished booting. Wait for the hard drive light to stop thrashing) (may take up to 5 minutes for some systems to completely boot depending on the number of drivers / software that needs to be loaded.)

Note: It's also a good Idea to cycle your internet router through a similar process once a week or so. This can especially have an impact if you tend to be DC'ing a lot. I recomment leaving the router unplugged for two minutes though so that your connection will be reset at the ISP's router as well.

Edit: Also note, the people that originally wrote the sourcecode have all been fired and replaced with 'fresh' talent that doesn't have a freaking clue. Not to mention, the engine the game runs off of is so old that it doesn't even support multi-threaded processors. It's kinda hard to improve things when you're starting with a Ford Pinto, and your mechanics are only familiar with Fuel Injected engines.

In addition to the help SylenThunder - Sanctuary has provided please also try the following:

Add the game folder and/or game file to the exceptions list in your firewall or antivirus software.

Example: C:\Perfect World Entertainment\Perfect World International

You also might need to temporarily disable your antivirus, MS Security Essentials or Windows Firewall long enough to download, install, patch and login to get into the game, and then turn it back on. Sometimes disabling may not help and you will need to add an exception for the game folder.

It might be Windows, Windows Firewall, Admin (such as running the game as Administrator), UAC, network, or antivirus settings that you will need to change so that they aren't blocking or throttling the game.

You can also try changing your proxy settings for Internet Explorer 8, to have them turned off here: Tools > Internet Options > Connections > LAN Settings > and then untick all of the proxy settings.

    Cheers!
