Hi sorry for this noob question....

I've been looking around quite a lot for information in general, and one thing i havent come across is information with regards to what targets monsters go after.

I'm looking for information particularly say if you are in a party and i heal someone it seems monsters then sometimes like to come after me instead of continuing to attack the person.

Anyway if anyone has any links they can point me towards it would be appreciated :)

PWI Wiki is the place to start.

Although there is a section for clerics, I recommend to read the whole post so you can have a general overview about how aggro works.
Sliding we go, only fear on our side. To the edge of the wire and we rush with the tide.
Although I'm still alive, pray to God I survive
How long on this longest day, 'til we finally make it through.

Yeah, what you're referring to is called 'aggro'... specifically, 'heal aggro', because you're aggroing them (drawing their attention) by healing.

Different things create different kinds of aggro. There's damage aggro (where the monster will attack the one doing the most damage to it), skill aggro (usually barbs, where they have particular skills that increase their threat level to mobs without necessarily doing a lot of damage), heal aggro (the mob notices someone healing the person they're attacking), and standard "omg you walked near me I attack you now!" aggro.

Different kinds of aggro can stack differently over one another. Up until high levels, skill aggro will usually overwrite damage aggro. Damage aggro will almost always overwrite heal aggro (so few exceptions they're not worth worrying about). And all these will overwrite the "omg you walked near me" aggro.

So, bottom line, as a cleric? Don't heal until all the monsters have been hit by someone. Make sure your tank is aoeing, either with some sort of aggro skill (like barbs' roar ability or BMs' aoe stun) or just with an aoe damage attack. All the mobs currently attacking must be hit by something before you heal, or you will get heal aggro .

A lot of it just takes time to learn. Your tanks are learning a lot of the time, too, so be sure to teach them how to best protect you! Good luck! b:bye

A big problem I had when my cleric was in her 70s and doing BH59 was the tank. I remember a couple times I had a crazy barb or bm that would run in and agro like five magic mobs. They would only hit one mob and scream at me for heals and then scream at me when they died. Of course, shortly thereafter my cleric died too. After a while I started laying down some law. If they didn't do their job I wasn't going to save them. It's how I met the barb my cleric is now married to. =) We still make a great team too.

That's called heal aggro. Monsters will turn their attacks to you if you use heal during an attack. Other classes have skills to counter that, but it's a big big reason why clerics die.
