I don't know if I am the only one, but since three-four weeks I suddenly have many many dcs, even at places which are less busy. Never had any dc-problems before, so started with any patch of weeks before. What happened? Got FPS like usual, so my PC cant be the reasonb:tiredMaybe there is something used to get fixed?b:surrender

Probably another DDoS attack in the making...
    [SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]I know what your thinking.

In general I haven't noticed any more or less dc'ing than usual...

How often are you dc'ing? If you live in the US, it could be all these crazy tornadoes and storms we've been having, knocking out the satellite dishes and such. Even if they're nowhere near you.

Just so you know, FPS is only an indicator of your graphics hardware on your machine...
There are lots of possible reasons for dc'ing. You might have a network card or modem going bad... I've seen this happen with cheap modems in particular before. (Like the kind they give you for free at your ISP) One year I remember going through 3 modems, lol, they were just junk.

Um, Satellite Dishes? b:shocked Somewhere between 90-99% of the internet bandwidth travels through cables, either fiber, conductive, or something similar. VERY little of the internet goes via Satellite. Using Satellite is... Expensive, to say the least. It's actually cheaper to run huge cables from California to Hawaii, and from Hawaii to Japan, China, Taiwan, etc., as well as from Oregon to Hawaii, Washington to Hawaii, Alaska to Hawaii, etc.

While it is possible that a disturbance to several of the MANY links that crisscross the country could effect performance and cause occasional DC's, it's pretty unlikely. The way the internet is set up, you are most likely to have either a solid connection, or no connection. The packets will 'find the path of least resistance' that they legally can from you to the server, and vice versa. Now, if a router between you and the server is having problems, it could cause latency issues...

MOST LIKELY, either the OP has an ISP that has a poor setup, and is causing the problems on their end, there is a local router that is angry and the OP needs to pray to the internet gods, or, there's an ongoing DDoS that PWE isn't telling us about (or doesn't know about, if someone is DDoSing a Router that isn't a part of PWE or PWE's ISP's network).

Either way... There are probably 6 people in one of the factions I'm in who cannot stay connected for more than an hour. Most of the time, they DC about every 15-25 minutes, and often for up to 25 minutes at a time. I think they have crappy ISP's, but at the same time, my ping has been suck-tacular lately, and I'm wondering if the DDoS from a while back isn't still happening.

    Um, Satellite Dishes? ...

Ok let me say by dish then, whether by satellite or microwave repeater. I know I'm not the majority, but my local ISP is dish fed. 20 hops to the PW server. First is satellite uplink, it's easy to see that from the traceroute data... no fiber here. Closest fiber lines are 20 or so miles away. And I'm on the east coast US. So idk. But I'd be curious to see some numbers as to exactly how much goes through which medium. b:victory

Also I hate my ISP, they charge me for 1.5m service and I get no better than 26k at any given time, lol

Edit: but for the record, even though my net is slow as balls, I typically stay connected for days at a time on multiple clients. But always dc with a good storm. o.O

That is exactly how mine has been lately.

Sometimes I can play for hours, sometimes I start DCing as soon as I log in.
I've seen my pings go from my normal 230 up to 1080+ at times.

But I have discovered that it's not PW.
I have started losing connection while I'm browsing as well.

My isp is run by the apartment complex that I'm staying at.
I believe that there is water in the line or one of the routers is going kaput.

b:surrender can seem to stay online for the life of me today within the last 20 mins I've been dc'ed nearly 10 times even before my sf has a chance to go off after 1 min.

I think its partially due to the mc rule changes so many characters logged on and everyone and they're grandma has 3-5 shops up in arch and I can't even keep one up.b:angry

The DISH network uses something closer to Cellular technology, opposed to Sattelite uplinks to space. Your Dish sends signal to an antenna, which is going to most likely have a wire link to the ISP. They might do Tower to Tower links... I don't see why though, that's costly and frequency issues pop up then. >_>

Though, if you get the equivalent of 26k dialup... Then your dish needs adjusting, or your ISP's tower needs fixt. Or you have too many machines...

True ground to space satellite internet is dependent on an actual satellite being in range, and unless you're near a military base, there are usually holes in your internet times (IE, you can't get signal during some times of the day because there's no satellite above you).

Anyway... If your ISP's hardware is knocked out, then yeah... As they repair stuff and reconnect things and other bits blow up and catch on fire (well, not really), you'll get DCed. FIOS and conductive cable are typical for most internet, and are intentionally robust when it comes to things like natural disasters. The internet may slow down, but you can still get through, as long as what you want to access still has connectivity, and there's an available link from you to it.

DISH really fails, simply because if the weather sucks, your internet sucks. >_> It's great for when you live waaaaay out in the boonies, though... But there's still better alternatives, in some places, for that.
