Food for thought

Ok now that I have your attention... lets turn the topic to food. Specifically, what foods do you eat while playing, or which foods do you eat before preparing for something big in game (think, a full delta, or a TW, or 10 TT runs back to back)?

While playing: hazelnuts, almonds, crackers, and yogurt packs
Before playing: I have this great little sandwich I make. And this being the point of the post mostly, to share this great little sandwich ;o

Ingredients:
-bread/pita of choice
-spreadings: mayonnaise, yellow mustard, tiny amount of seed mustard
-spices: small amounts of black pepper, celery salt/sea salt, oregano, rosemary, and paprika
-meat: turkey slices, cold cut (my favorite is organic tuscany)
-cheese: harvarti, or grated medium strength cheddar
-toppings: can vary depending on your tastes; myself I use grated carrot, mild tasting lettuce (not too crunch), and a bit of cilantro

Method:
-lay bread/pita flat; apply spreadings across the middle 2/3rds of the bread/pita; first a SMALL amount of seed mustard, then a generous portion of mayonnaise, followed by a small amount of yellow mustard
-apply spices sparingly
-take 3 or 4 slices of turkey, break it up with your hands into small pieces and lay on top of spreadings
-place 2 slices of harvarti cheese on top of turkey/grate cheddar cheese with hand held grater
-grate carrot/add some lettuce/cilantro
-get some water with your hands and sprinkle it on top (this keeps the lettuce/cilantro from drying out in oven, next step)
-roll the pita up and pin it shut with some wooden pins; place into oven on a flat pan, turn oven on to 350 Fahrenheit for 10 min
-take out & eat while hot!

~

Again, what foods/recipes do you enjoy as you play PW, or just before you play PW?

If it sounds really good I might try making it myself ;o

Cheers,

Azzazin

    What I love eating when playing a game like PW is quite the odd recipe: Mushroom pancakes.

    Check this out and I promise you won't regret it:

    Ingredients:

    -1 small package of fresh white mushrooms (about 250 gr.);
    -2 tbsp. flour;
    -1 egg, beaten;
    -1 handful basil leaves, chopped;
    -1/2 tsp. of salt, or to taste;
    -1/4 tsp. pepper;
    -oil for frying;

    For the cheese sauce:

    -1 tbsp. butter;
    -1 tbsp. flour;
    -1/2 cup milk;
    -1/4 cup grated cheese (like cheddar, or colby);
    -1/4 tsp. dried thyme;
    -salt and pepper to taste.

    Now what you do is wash and pat dry the mushrooms. Cut in half, drizzle with oil and bake in a oven on a lightly greased cookie sheet for about 10 min., or until lightly browned.

    Chop the mushrooms in a food processor, until chopped finely.
    Add flour, beaten egg, chopped basil leaves, salt and pepper to the mushrooms. Stir to combine.
    Drop spoonfuls on a preheated skillet and fry in batches in about 3 tbsp. of oil on both sides until lightly golden. Add more oil if necessary during cooking. Remove to the plate and pour the cheese sauce on top.

    For the cheese sauce:

    Melt 1 tbsp. of butter in a skillet. Stir in the flour and cook 1 min. Whisk in the warm milk. Add thyme, salt and pepper. Whisk and cook until slightly thickened. Stir in the cheese. You can adjust the sauce consistency by adding more milk for the thinner sauce, or adding more cheese for the thicker version, whichever you preffer.

    I know, I know, there's no meat in it...But it has a rich and distinct taste and you'll definitely want seconds. Can't beat the wraiths on an empty stomach now, can we ?

    Be careful when preparing the cheese sauce. You don't want it too gooey, I personally overheat it to give it a bit of crunch. Good luck and try it sometime, it's amazing and causes an addiction ! b:laugh

    Here's a little experiment for you:

    Get a steak ( with bone is preferable )
    Put it inside a bowl with cola in it
    Cover it up
    Wait for a couple of days

    After you see what happens to the steak you'll give cola up in notime b:chuckle

    Even though I am from Europe, I somehow like thai food. Though as most people don't like it too exotic, I made a "Wannabe-Thai-Wok-reciepe".

    It has 3 parts:

    Meat:
    For this one I like Sliced Chicken. You can also buy Chicken Schnitzel and cut them into small pieces yourself.
    150 gram per person.

    Vegetables:

    You may use any vegetables you like, I prefer peperoni and lettuce for it. Yes, you can indeed cook lettuce.
    1 red peperoni
    1 yellow peperoni
    1/2 lettuce

    Carbohydrates:
    You can now use either some sort of noodles or rice. I never tried to make it with rice, but who does not like noodles?

    So you might want to use a Wok to cook it, but you might as well just use a frying pen.

    Note: I combined 3 tastes in this meal: Spice, Sweet and curry.Try to add too much curry, make it too sweet and too spicy. If combined, they give your meal a very exotical touch.

    1) Start by throwing the noodles in the pen. Just let them normally cook while you do the rest.

    2) I always start with the meat. Just fry it, and when it is almost done, you add curry and salt to it. Give it a last mix and put the meat in a bowl. To keep it warm, put the bowl in your oven at around 100 degrees Celsius.

    Curry, check.

    3) Now for the vegetables, cut the peperoni and the lettuce in stripes. At low temprature let the peperoni only fry slowly. When it starts to get soft throw the lettuce in for ~1 minute. Now add some sort of a spicy ingredient to it. I myself use Sambal Oelek. If that is not auviable there, you might use any sort of spice-maker. Then put it into a bowl.

    Spicy, check.

    4) The noodles should be done by now. Trow them in the pen and make them sweet by adding sugar and cinnamon to it. Mixture it well, so the sweet taste is everywhere.

    Sweet, Check.

    5) For the finisher, just add the spicy vegetables and the curry-meat to the noodles and give it a good mix.
    Feel free to PM me for help.

    Erm, do you know that if you put a bone in your stomach, it'll dissolve too? Lol... learn a bit about biology please. Stomach acid is much stronger (HCl) than the carbonic acid found in soft drinks such as Cola. Not saying that Cola is in any way good for you, but the reason isn't the acidity so much as the massive amounts of sugar.

    Yes, well..appearently the food keeps the flavour better due the round shape (has something to do with air circulation inside). Other then this, no you can use any other pan as well. Wok is just more flexible, since its flat and round shaped, you can use it for boiling and frying.

    I really hope it turns out well ^_^. It is not that expensive and done in like 15 minutes. Just take 1 peperoni if you cook for yourself only though.

    And yes, wok is just a round shaped pen from china.
