Skills for Golem?

Hi

I started a Veno the other day to play something a bit different - one day I might get a Herc but for now I'm using a Glacial Walker and was wondering what skills it should have? I've added bash for aggro holding, is there anything else worth getting? Also should I bother levelling the pets skills up (ie Bash 5 Tough 5 etc.) or is it not worth doing?

Thanks in advance

the glacial walker comes with a bash by default; icicle is a water-element bash.

("plain" bash does phys damage. there are bashes for each of the five magical elements. they're pretty much equivalent in practice, unless you want to get unhealthily nitpicky about your minmaxing.)

level up the pet skills you actually use. it's very much worth it. whichever one you've got on auto, DEFINITELY level up.

the walker's a melee tank, so skills that help it tank are useful. i find threaten handy; lowers the mob's damage output and helps the pet survive. roar's an ohcrap-i-stole-aggro skill, i leave it on there because the walker's what i pull out when i can't afford to risk being the tank myself (and there's any risk at all that i might steal aggro).

now ask us what other pets you should get. you'll need a couple more, surely...

You already got necessary skills. I dont remember if glaciaer got roar, if not then better get it. I didn't lvl my golem's skills (because i planned herc) and felt just fine tanking and soloing everything a decent veno should on appropriate lvl :)) Depends on you. If you feel better with maxed skills, keep tough, roar and bash up to date, thats all it really needs.

who on earth would pay 2.5mil for a glacial walker when they can just go catch one for themselves?

ok, to be fair you've leveled yours to at least 40, to get level 3 tough on it. in case there's a level-4x veno out there who somehow still doesn't have a walker, buying yours would save them an hour or two in the cube leveling a new one up. well, that's STILL not worth 2.5 mil if you ask me... sorry to say, your GW's worth about what you paid for that ream scroll, and quite possibly not that.

Just testing the waters so to speak.

So what would you figure my GW would sell for or would you pay for it if you wanted one & ddint have one?

most tameable, non-rare veno pets are worth very little, because any veno who wants one can simply go tame one. usually what you're selling is just convenience; if someone wants to pay a few thousand for a glacial walker egg in lost city instead of paying a couple thousand in teleport fees and time to go tame a GW, that's a few thousand of profit you can make... but not much more.

few venos will wait until they're long past a pet's level range to go tame it, so they'll likely want a freshly-tamed egg, not a leveled up one. if they do wait, the convenience will be worth that much less to them; a few thousand in teleport fees is nothing to me any longer, for instance. conversely, though, the time and effort to level one up may be enough of a bother to be worth paying for. but the market will be much smaller, too.

the exception is rare pets, but they're a story unto themselves. non-rares are worth a few thousand to a few tens of thousands, at most. a pet that's had skills taught to it may have had its value increased by the value of the skill --- but the market for it will have decreased, as now you'll have to convince your buyer they not only want that pet, but want that particular skill on that particular pet as well, and want the combination badly enough to pay extra. most buyers won't stick around to hear your sales pitch for that.

It is not only the fact that veno's can tame their own it is also a matter of finding the right veno. I got rid of my 5x water pet in my late 60's and would have paid a fair bit in my early 70's for a good leveled water pet but a situation like that is a rare occurence and even then I would have paid a few hundred thousand tops.

I completly Reskilled my GW, just to get rid off Icicle and get Bash.
Because my GW wasn't able to hold the aggro, when fighting Earth Mobs.

I used a crystalline magmite rather than a GW, but I used it with Bash, sandblow, tough and threaten to try and help its durability to the max. Coupled with good -channeling it was able to tank pretty well. lvl 99 before I finally got a herc... It is still better at DPS than a herc if not being hit by the mob tho.
