i'm sorry, but us linux geeks need more detailed information than that. what distribution are you running --- ubuntu, debian, fedora, ...? and which version of that distribution?
what graphics card are you using, and which version of the linux drivers for it?
which version of wine do you use, and from where did you get it --- bundled with your distro, or from the winehq repositories?
any error messages in the various log files? $HOME/.xsession-errors /var/log/{whatever} or just on the console when you run PWI from the command line...[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC] Heaven's Tear alts: KenLubin, Sou_Hon, JudyCaraco --- level 5x chars.0 -

Ubuntu and the Most recent release 11.04 i think it is...
[/QUOTE]what graphics card are you using, and which version of the linux drivers for it?[/QUOTE]
nVidia GeForce Go 7600, with the recommend drivers. running cloned to my tv.
[/QUOTE]which version of wine do you use, and from where did you get it --- bundled with your distro, or from the winehq repositories?[/QUOTE]
I have the most recent version of wine running 1.3, and have activate and downloaded all of the DirectX drivers installed, i also installed teh fix, msvcp60.dll. and am still having no luck.

And i havent check the error but i will shortly, there have not been and errors popping up up tho it jsut fails.
Let me specifically describe the problem for you.
1. run the patcher through wine, using the right-click option of course.
2. Let the patcher do it things and when its finished hit start...nothing happens it just stops all acitvity, nothign in the task manager(you know what I mean) and tasks being pereformed.
3Try to launch one of the other two methds, using the right-click option to run through Wine, and i get nothing, either way.
4. one of the elements clients again starts the patcher with teh same reselts. and the other jsut dead-ends right there with with no further activity.
I hope this was descriptive enough for you, and btw ,,,,,,,,,,,.................ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQESTRUVXYZ <--insert where i missed them. lol grammar ****0 -
alright, now we're cookin'. i'm using ubuntu myself, but i'm actually using an older version than you --- 10.04 in my case. i like to stick with the LTS versions, that may be just me. (i wouldn't recommend you downgrade, though, 10.04 was pretty buggy when it first came out and was a pain to get running for me.)
recommended drivers for your nVidia --- recommended by who or what? ubuntu's got a little system administration applet for installing closed-source drivers for things like graphics cards; does it list your GFX card as one of its options? if so, install the driver for it from there and reboot. (one of the few times you'll need to reboot linux after making a change... kernel level device drivers usually still need that.)
the directx drivers actually shouldn't be needed. i don't have them installed myself, just vcrun60. you might want to remove all the libraries from the wine configuration panel, reinstall vcrun6 using winetricks, and try again. (how'd you install vcrun6, by the way? winetricks is the sensible way to do it. dunno how well any other method would work.)
and, again, where'd you get your wine from? the one bundled with my ubuntu version didn't work too great, i had to go to winehq.org (which is the website for the people who make wine itself) and follow their instructions for downloading wine from their site.
winehq has an application compatibility database, and it mentions PWI. there might be some help for you there too, but be warned, the folks who post there are WAY more eggheaded than i ever get here on this forum.
with a functioning wine config, you shouldn't need to run PWI any particular way. i just pick it out of my ubuntu menu, myself, or sometimes i run it straight from the command line, either way should work. using the command line will flood that command line window with any error messages created, which means you can't use it for anything else while you're playing PWI, but also means you get to see the errors. PWI/wine doesn't throw the errors onto the screen in any GUI window, that'd get way too verbose. you have to go looking for them specifically.
and FWIW, i don't have perfect luck running PWI on wine myself... :-/ i'm intimately familiar with reportbugs, which pops up randomly every few days for me. still, i can play without too much frustration and crashing, and it doesn't take all that much hacking the config. then again, i use an ATI graphics card, so my set-up probably wouldn't apply precisely for you.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC] Heaven's Tear alts: KenLubin, Sou_Hon, JudyCaraco --- level 5x chars.0 -
Ok i did a bit more tweaking of setting and things, loaded in the Vcrus6 thing and i got it to run in a window called. Default - Wine desktop, but its a blue screen and goes nowhere from there as well. were getting close lol.
I have a theory that, maybe pwi protecter isnt starting and that is preventing the game from running. but i could be wrong.0 -
Ahhh...so much nerd talk *head explodes*[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]
