Does increasing a weapon mastery increase skill damage with that weapon or just auto attacks?

Well, given you deal more damage overall with your weapon, it does increase damage when you use skills but also normal damage too.

But again, to make your character much stronger, you should level your skills as well (just look at what you buy in terms of spirit and coin and how much MP you end using when using the special attacks/spells).

Skill damage is based on how much damage you deal when auto-attacking.

Wait wait... is not auto-attacking the precise action of NOT using skills? b:surrender

Masteries increase is applied to your physical base atks. You will see the changes when you view your character info. That new change then applies to your skills as well.

it's not trolling, it's true. Many skills have as description "deals xx% of your base damage". Well, your "base damage" is the one in your stat window, and it get increased with the masteries. And when you're auto attacking, you're dealing plain "base damage", that's what he meant.

The way you explain it makes sense. The main question was about weapon mastery though... and I felt that Typhyse was going off-topic.

    Thanks for clearing it up.

More correctly, every skill deals damage = base damage + extra damage. So this means that your skill will hit at LEAST as hard as your auto attack, then plus some. For some skills, the extra damage is a fixed number, like BM's Fissure. Some other skills adds a fixed number then a % of weapon damage. Base damage and weapon damage is better explained here.

Well... Each class gets a mastery that boosts the damage they do.

Let's use Veno, since it's pretty straight forward (we're gonna ignore Melee mastery, since it's not so straight forward here).

Venos get Wood Mastery. Wood Mastery gives a bonus to wood damage. So, it adds to all skills that do wood damage.

On a BM, if you use fists, and use Fist Mastery, the mastery increases all damage done while your fists are equipped by the appropriate % of the skill's level. Since an Auto Attack is using fists, the % of increase is applied to your weapon's damage rating. If you use a skill, you are still using fists, so the % is still applied to your weapon's damage rating.

Gets complicated when you have Metal Mastery on a Cleric, and use Plume Shot which does Physical Damage. Metal Mastery, as far as I can tell, doesn't boost Plume Shot's damage at all.

And the above is wrong. It's base damage + weapon damage for auto attack, and base damage + weapon damage + extra for skills. Then you factor in the targets defense. It gets even more complicated when you have an archer... base damage + weapon damage + arrow add + extra then you do it again for the fire damage, and again if it's a skill that does poison or metal, then factor in the defenses. And attack level/defense level factors in somewhere too.

Anyway... Mastery effects your weapon's damage as far as I can tell, since it's usually a 'weapon mastery' for melee classes, or an element mastery for magic users (and would be calculated in your magic base damage for a magic user, possibly).
    101 Sage Sin*/Archer
    100 Demon BM*/Barb
    96 Demon Cleric/Sage Seeker
    95 Demon Wiz/
    94 Sage Veno
    85 Psy/80 Mystic
And a handful of other alts, all 79 and under.
    *Pre RB level

No, lol learn what you are talking about before you say other is wrong. Your base damage is what shows in the character sheet and is how hard you hit with auto attack. Your base damage is derived from weapon damage: weapon damage X attack multiplier = base damage. What mastery does is increase the attack multiplier.

As Archer, arrow simply add to weapon damage just like ring or any other attack+ __ gears do. And the fire damage just adds a % of the weapon damage on top of your base damage.
