Low level cleric questions

I couldn't find a topic on this so I decided to make one. My cleric is level 27, and it has some...survivability issues that I don't seem to have with any other avatars. Every mob he attacks gets only to half health before reaching him then beating the pulp out my poor cleric. Most of the time the only thing that keeps him alive is the silver hiero I have on him even then it doesn't save him all the time. b:sad

My armors, weapons and spam skills are up to date, in fact three pieces of my armor is legendary, am I doing something wrong or are clerics just horrible at low levels and get better as they level like sins?

the problem could lay in point distribution, if you are going light armor then i would not be surprised because as everyone knows light armor is terrible and gimps your damage output as an arcane class.

one thing to keep in mind is that you really don't want any extra vitality points, the hp gain is dramatically disproportional to the damage reduction you will suffer.

additionally have you been kiting the mobs?
you have a slow skill for a reason, try spamming it and running
    patience is a virtue

Maybe don't wait to get hit before healing yourself, i.e. attack once or twice, IH self once or twice, repeat. Figure out how much IH you need depending on the mob you're killing.

That's pretty much the story of a cleric from mid 20-s till late 30's. Just part of life unless you want to waste time kiting.

Just started mixing in IHs on a regular basis with your attacks and you should be ok.

do you heal yourself before and after? or do you neglect your health and keep on attacking....

You should get Legendary weapon instead, better damage = faster kills.
Also, get Jones' Blessing, it's useful, even at low lvls.
Get maxed Cleric buffs from friends / faction if you can, the extra magic attack helps ALOT!
I remember I could 2-3 hit kill all mobs at your lvl with the stuff I mentioned, and I'm not even pure mag.
Fast kills = mobs can't reach you.

I've never, ever kited on my cleric. On my wizard, yeah. And on my archer, only when the knockback is still on cooldown. But never ever on my cleric.

It's much easier and faster to just drop an Ironheart or two on yourself and pewpew the mob to death. Yeah, you'll get hit a couple times, but that's that why the heal-over-time aspect of IH is so handy. Also, Plume Shell if you're looking and a mob that hits hard, like a tauroc or a lynx.

Cleric survivability should be waaaaay above other squishy classes, because of the strength of our heals. We have the heals for a reason, so use them to your advantage!

The issues I had with dying at low lvls was mostly due to me not understanding how long IH takes to work. Use IH on yourself before you hit the mob. If you wait too long you'll be dead before it starts restoring your hp. You also might need to stack yourself.

Some people might not agree with this, but I chose to go vit build until I was able to wear gear that could be imbued with at least flawless to make up for the low hp. Dunno if that helps you- but the extra hp padding really helped me.

I'd say start kiting! Great Cyclone>Run back > GC > run... rinse and repeat till mob is dead. It might be slow but it cuts down your repair bills. o.o Most of the times, the mobs won't even be able to get a shot in which means no HP loss!

Oh, one more thing, if you don't wanna kite, try a plume shell for increased survivability against physical mobs.

At lvl 27 his mana pool would be gone in two smacks from a phys mob if he put on Plume shell....so then he's left with no shell, a mob up in his face, and no mana to heal himself....

o.o I managed to take two adawolf archers down at least before I had to meditate. Yeah, it'll be slow, reeeally slow. Thats why I chose kiting instead! :D No HP loss ftw! b:pleased

Might be because I was vit build at lower lvls, so I didn't have much mana to spare before that.
I just remember that using Plume shell = major pot spamming for me because my pool was drained after a few hits.

Cant believe no one has suggested this. Put one earth point into your geanie and give it earthquake, free cleric knock back. Buys you a free hit or two, or a heal or plume shell before they get back to you.

Also farming basic herbs(i use raging tide) and making level one appo potions called life powders, 50hp recovery per sec doesnt mess around at low-mid lvls
Yeah my sig doesn't match my name...i would say im being all clever and trying to confuse people...but im really just too lazy to make a new one

Im lvl 80 cleric.. didnt have to worry so much at lower lvl coz i had an archer as a sheild BUT..... as people have said we have heals for a reason. we have limitless hp with ih (almost atleast :P) so use it..

And that archer sheild... still going strong :P

Also get as much hp/phy res in your gear as possible it will help with your survivability.. im full mag build and at lvl 80 can solo the whole of bh59.. with the help from my phy res gear and a little IH...

Clerics just take a bit of getting used to, they are one of the most strategic classes i know..

    goodluck XD

just do what I do. GC>PS>IH>GC>PS>PS. no need to kite or run around. saves time. it works on every mob I've met so far.

I know someone else brought it up, but I gotta say again....LIFE POWDERS!! I don't remember the herbs to make them, but they are all over the place. At lvl 21 on my cleric I've already made quite a bit of powders to use when killing lots of mobs. 10 minutes of +50 hp regen keeps us low lvl clerics at max hp the whole time.

It also saves mana not having to cast IH so much. Then I think there's a lvl 2 apothecary pot you can make that restores 3,000 mp, which really comes in handy when you start doing BH and don't wanna waste time taking a BUNCH of regular pots.

For both my cleric and wizard, I realized fairly quickly that weapons outweigh armor in terms of priority. More weapon dmg = shorter fights.

And with the free armor you get when you make a char, you really don't have to buy armor at all until around lvl 30/rank 1. I'm up to lvl 21 on my cleric and still have 18 days left on the free "elder's blessing" armor (which is awesome btw).

If I were you I'd start saving up for a Wheel of Fate for lvl 43. It's the only weapon you need till lvl 60, but they're usually around 1.5 mil in the AH.

Golden and nectar, it takes about 10-15mins to farm enough to make like 15 life orbs, aside from keeping you alive as you lvl once your done with a few mobs you can meditate and be back to full hp in the blink of an eye(for those who dont have heals like clerics lol, i use em on my sin while grinding)

The only mobs that could be a problem are metal resistant physical mobs.
Other mobs are not a problem.
As said before, you shouldn't even kite them, just use cyclone>plume shot>cyclone>plume shot, and Ih if you think the mob will have the time to lend some hits on you.
