My PWI dilemma

Hello, it's been a long time since I've done anything related to Perfect World. Basically, I'm having a dilemma about not sure whether or not I want to play PWI.

I think the reason I stopped playing about a year ago was that I felt somewhat frustrated with the game. I used to play almost every day and had a lot of fun, but somewhere along the lines, when I got to level 30-ish or so, I became frustrated with the long traveling distances, the small bank and inventory space, and the dreary look of wilderness in many of the areas I had quests in.

I think I got the extra bank spaces obtainable through collecting various loot dropped by monsters, but I still felt like it wasn't enough, and I think I had a hard time deciding what items to keep and what to trash.

I also never had a mount, so I always ran long distances to travel between the city and quest locations and traveling became dull and troublesome.

And then on top of the long traveling distances, the maps just seemed unnecessarily big and ugly/gloomy where I was running through. That huge capital city with the statues in the middle seemed like it was over-sized and a hassle to run errands in, and the mountainous areas near there seemed disturbingly drab.

Interestingly enough, I did something very stupid in the midst of my boredom. I decided to travel to that super sacred city somewhere where I wasn't even supposed to be, so I managed to sneak through and run across a number of fields of insanely powerful monsters that would crush me like a fly, and reached that neat-looking city hoping that I would have more fun there, but there was basically nothing for me to do there because I was only about level 30 and probably everyone there was at least double my level or more and there were no quests, so I tried to teleport back to the other cities, but I think I couldn't because the teleporting map didn't connect them. I think I tried dying but I spawned at that city, so the only way I could get back to the other cities was to run across all those fields of instant-death monsters AND try not to get killed otherwise I'd probably end up back in that city where I wasn't supposed to be. So I think I gave up the game around then.

However, after I stopped playing and uninstalled the game to free hard drive space and tried other F2P MMOs during my year or so of absence from PWI, I began feeling like I missed certain aspects of PWI, like the designs of the cooler looking areas and the character design.

So now I am wondering, before bothering to download and install the game myself:
Has PWI changed in some way that maybe I would enjoy playing it again?

I understand there is the new Genesis update coming, and I'm considering a fresh start with the Seeker class since my last character was a human warrior and I like melee combat, but I don't know if I would enjoy playing as my warrior again.

Any suggestions for improving my PWI experience or recommendations of other great free to play MMOs would be appreciated.

Come try out the new classes with everyone! Since everyone who rolls a mystic/seeker will be new to the class, you'll meet a lot of people to squad with and quest with.

Pretty sure you'll have fun doing that.

And don't forget at level 30 you can get your wings, which allows you to fly to any place. Thought that does take time

I still think it's worth it. I like the game.

Wow, I actually just learned about that flying blade you get at lvl 30 by chance, I found out that I'm level 28, so I'm close. I might as well give it a try, and even if I don't like it, I can try out the Seeker or Mystic later. Thanks for the suggestion Skai.

Everything has its beginnings, but it doesn't start at one. It starts long before that... The world is born From zero. The moment zero becomes one is the moment the world springs to life. One becomes 2. 2 becomes 10. 10 becomes 100. taking it all back to one solves nothing. so long as zero remains... One.. Will eventually grow to 100 again.

It is true that Perfect World is a gigantic environment to wander in, and it was rather exhilarating and scary at the same time, as there is much to discover as you level.
I also agree on the fact that Archosaur is a huge city with a ton of empty buildings and duplicates of merchant NPCs. It is rather hard to explore it before reaching lv 30 and the right to have an aerogear (unless you spent for a permanent one, be it via boutique or from other players).

Trust me, the game is much more enjoyable once you got the right to fly (Yes, yes, winged elves can do it from the start), especially now that there is an auto-path integrated to quest list, so you can travel without worry of not finding the NPCs to start/report your mission.

I never really used land mounts, but they are an interesting aspect as well. By the way, if you created your account a year ago, maybe do you have the rights to the anniversary mount (unless you already deleted your character or your account expired).

And yes, do wait for the expansion, just in case.
And no, it's not allowed to name other MMOs here, unless they have been created by PWE.
Maintenance time. Please choose a line:
    - When is it over? OMG I need my fix!! *super spazzing*
    - Fix the damn bugs, dammit! I'm so angry! I'll quit!!
    - New codes out there? I like free stuff~ *wink*
    - When will we get new content? QQ
    - Will we get sales? I got a ton of gold to spend.
    - I'm bored, I'll create a useless thread to annoy Opkorock.
    - *Incessant poking on Sweetiebot* Fun~

Your last character was a "human warrior", means you're a BM.
    BM = blademaster.

If so, i'd continue with that one until lvl 30 for sure, check if indeed you have a free anniversary mount (use search function here on forums).

BM's are currently much in demand, especially at higher levels for certain instances.

Continuing your BM for the time being also allows you to "explore" more of PWI, i'm sure once you can get to places faster you'll start loving it more, AND it's a great experience until you can play "seeker". By then you should know/relearn the game mechanics better.

    Enjoy your stay.

We now have a "tideborn" quest line which has some awesome quests (if you like reading, I mean, though some of them also have some very nice in-game rewards). But most of that requires you be higher level. I think you need to be level 50 or 60 to get to the really tragic parts.

You can also expand your cupboard, but that's somewhat expensive (cupboard stones will cost between 400k and 800k coins for 8 rows in your cupboard, depending on how prices are that day). Personally, I am known for having an overly full mailbox because I use my mailbox for storage and I sometimes have a lot of things on auction.

You can also sometimes teleport (and if you keep track of how fast you earn coins, you should have an idea of which teleports will save you money), but you are usually best off staying in regions where you have quests. But to do well in this game, I think you need some awareness of how fast you gain coins, so you can notice potential improvements in your gameplay.

Meanwhile, if you want a prettier place to play I would recommend starting a new psychic or assassin. Or, even better, if you wait a couple weeks you can start a seeker or a mystic, and they will have a very nice starting region. (But the core map has not changed, and if you have your graphics options turned up all the way I do not think you can do much else to get new areas, except level up).

Thank you to everyone for all the advice. I've just finished installing the game again, and I'm quite intent on getting that flying blade and leveling my Blademaster, and I'll try look for that anniversary mount too. It's been a long time...

It sounds to me like you would have more fun in the game if you had someone to answer your questions and help you out with knowledge that you get from playing the game for a while. Like which items are worth keeping, how to make speed pots, ect. I don't know which server you're on but I play on Raging Tide and if you have any questions I'd be happy to help you in game.

If you want to see if you qualify for any of the anniversary rewards, just go to this page:
    http://pwi.perfectworld.com/2010_anniversary

Any rewards due to you will then be sent to your mailbox.

Up to level 38 or so things can go a bit slow, but just complete your quests and you'll level up fairly quickly. Starting level 30 you can also do the daily Crazy Stone quest, which will speed up leveling a bit. At level 39 you'll have your cultivation quest, adding some new skills. And at level 40 you can start doing Bounty Hunter quests and the Tidal Protection Charm Quest, which are also good ways to level up.

So, I'd say you're on the verge of hitting some of the more interesting and fun content PWI has to offer. Hang in there and I think you'll be rewarded. b:victory

Thanks for the support everyone, I've been having a great time again on PWI. The inventory space and traveling distance still bothers me, but I've cleared out some useless items and I finally got the free aerosword so it's smooth sailing now. I can't wait to see the new Genesis update.

Any suggestions for improving my PWI experience or recommendations of other great free to play MMOs would be appreciated.

One of the core aspects of games, is its aesthetics. Initially people would judge the game by its graphics, then its class choices, then its skill effects and its gameplay.

So a choice is made here - play or not play? Well, you've seen the gorgeous landscapes and all that but the gameplay is a drag. Inventory space and traveling distances still bothers you. To be quite honest with you... those problems are like... not a problem to most of the players nowadays unless you're a complete newcomer to PWI.

The game has become much more cash shop dependent, and there are more and more people willing to put real life money into the game. You don't have to, but you have to do it the hard way, which actually gives you a lot of unnecessary stress though you may have some nice feel of achievement. Real life stress already sux.. you wouldn't want more stress created by a game that you can choose to NOT play.

This is also my dilemma too, not only yours. I know the amount of time it will consume, and the amount of money I may use and possible troubles it could produce. It all boils down to one thing though. WHY do I still play? Well, because of past memories and friendships and achievements I've gained that I don't want to let go of. I need to let go and move on - I do that, but I come back here after a few months. Its ALL in the aesthetics.

Psychologically - imagery and music combined is like a drug to your brain. It can trigger past memories, past events at a certain place.

The ability to grind for money or kill to gain pride is also part of the psychological plan. This is an affect of the game; that's why people enjoy gaming, because they can be someone they can't be in real life, can get things they can't get, can do things they can't do in real life, and live in a fantasy world where there's no one nagging you to do things you hate doing.

One advice to you - if you're choosing to stay in PWI, make sure you understand that there's more cash shopping involved. If you have money, use them wisely and don't get bankrupt or have debts. If you aren't going to cash shop and do it the slow/hard way, don't take things too seriously and try NOT to let the rest of the people in PWI to give you pressure to rush level, or rush your gameplay. Don't give yourself stress by comparing yourself to another player. Real life is really important, whether you're still studying or not studying and working. You must find the balance in life. If you're a serious gamer, make sure you dont fail in real life. If you don't fail in real life, you're one step closer to not fail in game life. Just don't let one life take over the other - it really is for your own good. Its hard to control, but you're definitely not alone.

Remember that your character is YOUR ingame life, YOUR gameplay, YOUR pace. Work around the environmental changes and be strong. Don't give up easily, but hang on and work through it because you'll become stronger than before :)

Hope my momma lecture was useful. b:bye (no I'm not a mum I'm a 2nd year student in a university ._.)
