I personaly say well done to them for stoping Exploiters from capitolising. Just as they stop those random few from exploiting a glitch that was allowing players to duplicate coin, after the introduction to the raging tide update. Have faith people.
Well maybe they will put it back, but if they r planing too, why not tell us about it? why wold they let us get so mad cuz of it, when one post saying ,,we will put em back after the glitch is fixed" can easily avoid all this drama? Frankie replyed only once on her thread about this problem, other gms just ignore us or close the threads that requests a answer from them. They dont know what will be the solution yet? R u guys still working on it? give us a damn answer... b:sad[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

first explain how this "exploit" of the medals negatively effects anyone. either you buy the DQ from the people or you buy the medal. if you are stupid enough to pay more for the medal than you would buying the dq outright... well you deserve to be ripped off. the only players that are hurting from this change are the ones who rightfully earned dq points to buy medals. so many people have spent irl money buying the chips and rep but have farmed dq for the medals. now they are totally screwed.
PWI/GM s provide a service. players invest time and effort into this service with certain expectations. when these expectations are grossly unmet players become angry. and rightly so. i am sure every person on this forum would rage and QQ if their fries were served cold. so why should GM s be allowed to not do their job anymore than we would not allow the fry cook to serve us cold fries?
PWI/PWE is a business just look at how much they have made since the game opened. yet none of this seems to be reinvested into making the game better, fixing bugs, or providing better GM service. back when the servers first opened you could actually click the call GM button and OMG! they came. now you are lucky to get a ticket answered within a month if ever answered at all.0 -

Ironically, I think the harm would all be on the "game play experience" front, and perhaps on the "available GM time" front.
I think that this exploit put economic power in the hands of the kind of person willing to exploit bugs. And I think that they did not like the implications of that.
Hypothetically speaking, they could have banned such people for some amount of time (they could see how fast they earn coins, without the exploits, then ban them for an amount of time proportional to their in-game profit margin). But doing that kind of work would take time away from everything else they have to do. (Not only do they have to identify and analyze the exploiters, but they would have had to deal with the fallout and reactions to the bans.)0 -

Except the only way people exploiting this bug were going to GET any substantial economical muscle is if the medals were removed from the exchange. Up until that point there was no problem. In fact, things seemed to be moving towards the BETTER...but maybe I'm just being ignorant.
If anyone's at fault here, it's not the people making use of the glitch...it's the development team for not having the common sense to realize that anything that they put in the DQ rewards list is, by the very nature of the DQ items themselves being exchangeable, never going to be able to be regulated simply by binding the item itself to a character. If they didn't want medals to be affecting the economy, they never should have put them there in the first place.
But they did. And now the damage is already done. Simply taking away medals isn't going to solve anything at this point. All it accomplishes is pissing many, many people off. =/0 -

What are you smoking?! LOL possible fatal blow to the economy? It was helping the economy for the non-CSers. And the small profit that the people exploiting the glitch made was just that: frickin small.0 -

First off, this whole "PWE is a business" excuse needs to die. Immediately, if not a year and a half ago. It comes up every time they do something boneheaded (especially if the vast majority of the community sees it as "greedy") and is basically a carte-blanche excuse for the company to do whatever the hell they want to whoever's left in-game. As a way of thinking, this is absolutely unacceptable.
MMOs are not designed to be a "revolving door" business. An intelligent company looks for ways to keep existing customers, encourage them to continue subscribing / buying points (zen) / playing their game. The fundamental difference is in how customers are treated. Here, it's been blatantly clear for a very long time that PWE as a company looks primarily to its bottom line, considers its "players" only in so far as their purchases are concerned, and more or less has the business philosophy of a mosquito - suck it all dry, and move on to the next victim. An intelligent company, on the other paw, regards its customers as players and seeks to encourage them to continue playing the game. From this viewpoint, it's less about the cash flow and more about creating an experience people will enjoy and continue paying for.
To be fair: I'm undecided on the issues right now, and I certainly support giving the forum mods and admins (especially Frankie) the benefit here - obviously, they're not the decision-makers for the company, and it's pointless to direct any rage at them. But it needs to be made clear:
Just because PWE "is a business" does not excuse them for treating players like dirt.
Is that happening here? I don't know. I simply want this godawful excuse to die.
Eh totally agree

ppl without money will grind medals...
ppl with money will buy medal Boutique or in catshop or just buy bloody DQ ,
SO ITS NOT AFFECTING ECONOMY.... MEDALS CANT AFFECT ECONOMY CASUE THERE is/WAS way TO GET THEM FOR FREE..and one more thing ..U CANT AFFECT ECONOMY WITH ONE ITEM IN THIS GAME (packs are another story) cause when u have alot of same items prices GO DOWN and if demand is big then every1 will sell those items..soo ONLY thing with medals is that ppl who buy gold with real money will just buy medals and ppl without money will grind medals. Some people in this game need to understand when changing or adding codes to a program you can unwillingly and unknowingly effect other codes of the program. The dq/dp rewards scheme has been altered (rank 9 medal removed) to stop people whom where exploiting a code variable that allowed them to make them tradeable. This variable had the potential to take an already rigid economy and shake it to the highest its ever been. Logical thinking would show that they infact removed them to attempt to keep the economy from peaking, an act or i should say an attempt to look after the games players.
*When the medals were on sale they were going for as low as 6 to 8 million on Raging Tide, now they're 25 to 50 mil. This isn't a very good game move. This is an underhanded game move.
Also has anyone even coincidered the possibility that once the problem has safely been resolved that they will reinstate the rank 9 badges to the Dp system. Problem SHOULD OF been resolved on December 2010 ~ January 2011 not resolved on April 2011. If you must delete all the medals then delete them out of people's character.

It's totally understandable that changing one part of the code may break other parts. It's another thing when broken code is not fixed for months or even years.
As good programming principals such as modularity minimizes the risk of updates affecting areas that they are not meant to be affected and allows additional content to be added that is consistent with old content. However, from what I've observed, many parts of PWI do not use these correct conventions. For example, when the tideborn expansion came out, many new buffs and debuffs of tideborns cannot be purged or purified correctly, this shows that they clearly hard coded how purge and purify worked so that any change requires them to put in much more work than they need to had they followed better programming principals. There are many other examples, but I won't bother to list them one by one.
But still, making mistakes is normal and bugs and glitches are part of any game. However for any past games that I've played, when bugs or glitches are found, they are fixed almost immediately, reducing the negative side effects. But as you can see in PWI, glitches such as door hacks, dq medal bug, rubberbanding are discovered yet takes months or most are never fixed. I mean just look at the rankings, the website was reskined with a new css which broke the rankings page. It's been more than a month and the ranking's page is still not fixed. Even a tiny problem as a single webpage's skin, which should be about a couple hours of work does not get fixed for A MONTH just implies that they simply do not care about the players enough.
I know that the code for the game cannot be changed by PWI but rather by devs in china, but things like the pwi website I'm sure is managed by pwi itself. However the lack of maintanence on just the website leads me to believe that the pwi company probably has way too few programmers (1? maybe even 2?). The fact that such things are not fixed within hours or even days makes me think maybe that single programmer went on vacation for a month. It sounds ridiculous but whats more ridiculous is that it might not be far from the truth.0 -

Yes, I think this issue was totally not handled properly. And, I think that it's really too bad that our GMs are not omniscient but instead are humans and capable of making mistakes.
On the other hand, I am not sure I would like non-human GMs, either.Silest - Sanctuary wrote: »But it was taking away from CS sales.

I agree with you about the benefits of modularity and abstraction -- they can be great and wonderful things. But, from my reading about game development, I believe that game release schedules and requirements usually require massive violation of those principles and also usually require heroic efforts to make up for the resulting problems. If I understand this situation properly, I think that kind of conflict must eventually change, but also that it will mostly only go away for games built from scratch using tools designed long after the cutting edge technologies have moved on to new and better things.
That said... I also think that PWE could do a lot better than they have been doing. My impression is that they need to build fast testing tools (to quickly catch recurrences of existing bugs when they get reintroduced) and that they need to build better debugging tools (to help them isolate instances of frequently occurring problems). That they have not leaves the door's open to competitors (though, sadly, their competitors currently seem to be insisting on making their own awful mistakes).
But since they do not have that kind of thing right now, I imagine that they also run the risk of implementing subtle changes to the game, any time they introduce something new (including when they implement new tests). And, both from a gameplay and business point of view, they probably feel they need to be cautious there. Despite people's claims that this game is trivially easy, we have a lot of subtle and obscure facets in this game and a wholesale attempt to fix problems will almost certainly change some of those subtleties (and, thus, will almost certainly upset a loud and vocal set of players).
In other words, I think they have painted themselves into a corner. And, I am both sympathetic and unsympathetic to their plight.0 -
Ill start by saying I have not had a chance to read the ENTIRE thread but Im going to throw my 2 cents in anyway. This companys job is to make money....i completely understand that. But they they are going about it all the wrong way, the greedy way. Its obvious to me when i read patch updates week after week they tweak it slightly more in the direction of spend money or GTFO! What they SHOULD be doing is satisfying their customers and making the game as fair and balanced as possible. This WOULD IN FACT MAKE MORE MONEY, in the long run you have more people playing the game. You have happy customers telling their friends "hey you gotta try this game its friggin awesome!" "Oh does it cost money?" "No not at all, you have the option to put money in but you can get buy either way." "Oh wow this is a great game im gunna tell all my friends!" the more people you have PLAYING the game the more people you have putting money into the game. Think of it as its own little government, if you tax the holy hell out of your citizens they will get fed up and leave and you are left with no one to tax. If provide a happy place for them to live with reasonable tax you get more people moving in and more people paying taxes and more money overall. seriously devs, i know it would cost a bit of money to change code but havent we given you enough of it? start small. start by making barbs transform into the true form of the animal they chose like people have been asking for since i joined this game close to 3 years ago. Start by allowing same sex marriges, if people want why the heck not? Then work your way up to things like fix the damn FB59 so monsters can run up on the walls. i mean c'mon, you didnt even try their you didnt make walls at all, you stretched the floors stright up a mile high. the graphics for the walls look like **** and the computer doesnt actually know they are walls. Wow i didnt mean to write so much....hmmm, let me wrap it up. Ive been playing this game for a long time, and to be completly honest i think its a mediocre game with epic potential. the ONLY reason i still play this game is because quite honestly, im hooked like a bad habit. im addicted to it and ive already spent enough money that im not ready to throw all that money away. I just cant understand why you guys havent realized the potential of this game and turned it into what youre loyal paying cumstomers know as the player base deserve to be playing.

I see so much GM hate in this thread....... I think that's why it looks like the GM "don't care" about the community. It's because of the flaming.
If you were a GM like Frankie getting multiple flame threads being called "A fail GM" or GMs fail at their job and are to lazy and don't care about the community" all because of 1 change in game that the community doesn't like, what would do? But because there's nothing you or anyone else can do about this, I just wait until it gets resolved and if I doesn't get resolved I just adapt and get use to the change (Just like when EVERYONE was QQing about when the TB first came out and started QQing about sins being OP and then 5aps being OP and then when Devs made it super easy to get R9 gear, eventually people stopped QQing and got used to it).
