Update Kills Linux Wine...

Bad news for anyone using Ubuntu or any Linux version. After a few years of being able to play the game with wine the new update no longer allows gamers to actually play.
I monkeyed around with my settings, (all resolutions windowed and full screen) verified my files, and tried opening the element client directly.
All of my elementary trouble shooting it still results in the same, click start button, hear noise.. wait for about 30s then watch wine and client crash with no error message.
Too bad PWE I was just about to charge zen for the first time too. (PS it was gonna be enough for int gear and 300k rep). Good news is that if someone cannot offer up a solution the Uninstall button still works b:bye

Wine is a program that lets you use windows software on another os.0
-
Stoped using wine on my Ubuntu for PWI a while ago, when the sound drivers bug become too annoying and crashed the game 5-10 seconds after starting it always. After that, I had to use Windows again, just cuase PWI.[insert sig here]0

You need to find msvcp60.dll from somewhere (preferably a windows install) and copy it to the windows/system32 folder of you wine config (by default, ~/.wine/drive_c/windows/system32). As for sound problems, I have none anymore. Wine doesn't cooperate well with Alsa by default, just had to add some sensible defaults for it to use the default alsa device.0

Get vcrun6 package from winetricks. I was having same problem and after doing that I'm in game again.0
-
Even better to winetricks vcrun6, thanks0
-
Call me a girl (cause I am one...very technology unsavvy), but I still have no idea how to fine this vcrun6 package on the wine tricks page or what to do with it. I am actually using codeweavers Game Crossover, and I tried downloading the .dll missing file but when I downloaded the said file and after adding to to the crossover I was able to get one step further in launching the client. It now shows a white block in the middle of my screen.
Any dumbed down versions would really be helpful.0 -
winetricks is an add-on program used for downloading windows libraries and applications to install into wine. well, technically it's a shell script, but those are programs... the "shell script" bit means it's likely to run best on Linux, i don't know if it'll run at all on macintosh OS X. i also do not know if it has anything whatever to do with crossover, since i've never used crossover.
winetricks, when run, pops up a graphical menu. this menu is very badly organized, one of the clumsier UI's i've used. to find vcrun6 within it:
(1) click "select the default wineprefix", then click "ok".
(2) click "install a windows dll or component", then "ok".
(3) scroll down to "mfc42", note that it says "same as vcrun6". select it and click ok.

Considering 99% of the worlds PC games are made to run on Windows, umm yeah.
And if stating the obvious is trolling, then sure, whatever.
I think most of you have no idea what trolling even means, its just something you say when someone disagrees with you. What kind of fool pays for a free game.0 -
no, we know what trolling means --- posting useless but incendiary garbage just to get a rise out of people. you're doing it.
meanwhile, i'm playing PWI on linux, and it's working fine.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC] Heaven's Tear alts: KenLubin, Sou_Hon, JudyCaraco --- level 5x chars.0 -

It wasn't your message, it was the tone you conveyed when you posted it. You said something in a way where you laughed at the original posters problems, insulting anyone who happens to own that system. It also didn't help solve the original posters problem. Which could only be something that people were going to respond to negatively. Since intentionally or not, that made it flame bait. It was indeed trolling. If you do not want to be called as such, try stating your opinions in a way that they wouldn't be flame bait.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

Windows isn't a "Proper OS" by any conceivable stretch of the imagination.
Cigarettes are bad for your health. By your logic, they should be a cure-all for everything, since everyone uses them, despite them being full of toxins and carcinogens.101 Sage Sin*/Archer

People use windows for the same reason they use IE.
Because they have to or they don't know any better.
Thank god it never took off on smart phones.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]
