It helps to remember what each of the attributes does when you need to make a decision. A tanking barb is a STR-VIT build IIRC. That helps you decide what to do with the excess.

STR - this is needed to wear that new piece of gear. Heavy armor has a STR requirement, and possibly the weapons as well.

VIT - for a barb, vit is translated (more efficiently than other classes?) into HP. This is where you put your excess per the guides.

DEX - for a tank build, this only contributes to your crit rate. For an APS build, you need it to fulfill your weapon requirements. Fists, claws, bows neeed DEX to wear.

MAG - barb is melee, not a caster. No points for MAG.

So in determining if yor are STR or DEX, you decide what armor you wear, what weapons you will equip. Doing both will cost you much VIT (the extra points will have to come from somewhere).

The one thing you should note is that for crit rate, DEX is needed in multiples of 10 or 12. Sorry I cant remember which. Your chart does not take that into account.

So the thought is that attribute points not applied are wasted attribute points. Incorrectly applied attribute points are worse - you will have to spend money if you messed up badly. You have to ask yourself if you want to keep a few points unallocated for the next time you need to upgrade gear? You dont need to have more STR than what your current gear needs.

At level 15, you are leveling off of quests, and doing so rapidly. It is not uncommon to forget to use your attribute points for several levels. No harm done, really.

20 dex adds 1% crit rate.

You also NEED some dex to wear your armor (the amount shown in that lasts)
