Seeking some advice on choosing a class

Hello all, I just started playing Perfect World again. The last time I played was before all these new classes were introduced and only then I made one character (a cleric) up to level 37 and then quit. Needless to say, I still consider myself a noob, but I'm back again and I'm having a really difficult time choosing a class.

I don't like making a million alts and whatever class I do choose (hopefully with your advice), I do fully intend to level it to the max level and to participate in end-game content. So maybe you guys can help me? I've looked up and read about each class in the forums, but it's still relatively difficult to get a good grasp of what the classes are about without having played any of them, save the cleric.

First off, I don't care if the class performs well or not in PvP. I am very much a PvE player, I also love caster-type classes. I don't mind melee-type classes but I am not very experienced with them and I fear that because they are out of my comfort zone that I may not perform well with them. If the melee class is truly interesting and fun to play, then I have no qualms trying it out. Most importantly, I am looking for a class that will be needed in squads. If I wanted to solo game I would just play a single-player RPG, at some point, I want to be needed in a group and not just stand around and never getting invites. Cleric is the only class out of the question. I leveled it to 37 and I personally found it extremely dull and lost patience with the class, so I'm also looking for something that is at the very least somewhat enjoyable to level and not insanely tedious and difficult (of course I realize there will be times when a class reaches a level range where leveling can get a little slow).

I think that's about it, I know it seems like I'm very picky, but any insight would be great.

So what do you think? Archer? Wizard? Blademaster? Barbarian? Venomancer? Assassin? Psychic? Seeker? Mystic?

The only two classes that are pretty much universally needed in squad (at least until endgame) are clerics (out of the question) and barbarians.

Barbarians, in my experience, are a rewarding and surprisingly relaxing class to play. But if you don't want slow leveling, then maybe it's best to avoid them... they take longer on mobs than most other classes, what with their niche being their high defenses and HP, and their ability to hold aggro (at least, again, until endgame).

That said, any class can be a vital part of squad. I've found a surprising amount of archers as being good DDs and distance tanks... but then again, I found them excruciating to level personally, and never got mine past the 20s.

BMs can be surprisingly interesting, what with all the skill trees and various ways to smack mobs around. I'm not typically a melee person either, but my BM is one of my highest alts.

I've found Mystic to be pretty interesting so far. It's a decently complex class, with its various abilities, and seems to be one of the more soloable caster classes. And with their rez-after-death buff, I would never turn one down on one of my squads. Healing and pet abilities? Sounds like a nice, squad-useful class to me.

Then again, I found the cleric to be most interesting (I'm a carebear who likes to help people b:cute ), so likely my standard of playstyle is vastly different from yours.

I haven't made a final decision as to which class to choose yet, but I have been playing the Mystic just to pass time and maybe feel my way towards which class I want to choose. I definitely concur with the fact that it offers diverse skills and abilities and definitely very soloable (compared to a cleric! whew). I do like that it is hybrid of the cleric and veno, especially since before I made my cleric I was torn between that and the veno, now I can (technically) have both! It definitely does sound squad-useful in theory, but looking at all the chat where people are looking for certain classes to run instances, I've yet to see anyone asking for a Mystic... or is this just me?

I'm kind of skeptical about what I said in my original post about the cleric being "out of the question". When I created it I was a complete and utter noob at the game and didn't know half the stuff I know now and have incorrectly allocated points and spent loads of spirits on skills I didn't need instead of skills that could have helped me a great deal leveling. Like I said, I'm generally a caster-type of player, I very much enjoy healing (probably as much as you do) and doing magical damage. Perhaps because of my inexperience as a player at the time, it could have contributed to my difficulty leveling and playing the cleric. Maybe it isn't so bad.

But then again, you are the high-level cleric, so you tell me =)
