(Most functional) clerics are robe users, so your magical defenses will naturally be high. For same reason physical defense is much much needed.

Between AA and having almost every stat point into magic your magic defense is covered.

Socket 1/3-1/2 your gear with garnets and use physical ornies when you can.

    Armor priorities for cleric:

1 Elemental Resistance - comes with your arcane armor
2 PDef - add through sharding, may come with some armor
3 HP - add through sharding, may come with some armor
4 MDef - add through sharding, may come with some armor

Here is a YouTube Video a cleric made on AOE grinding.

This video has an example of an armor swap that was sharded for wood defense for a specific mob.

I tend to shard my gear for HP. Physical defense is generally covered through smart use of Plume Shell, and even Vit-heavy cleric builds are a lot squishier than non-spellcaster classes.

Then again, it's really up to you. Really, shard your armor for anything but elemental resistances (wood, earth, fire, etc), because arcane armor already has that covered (and to a lesser extent, light armor, if you decide to go that way). Any sapphire (magic def/atk) shards should go on your weapon, not your armor!

At first, i sharded my gear with HP thinking i wouldn't really need phys def due to having defense spells like plume shell and guardian light but towards the higher lvls,i realised how important it was to always have plenty of phys. def on top of HP.

For PVP purposes, having phys. def will save you big time from melee classes and archers(anything that does phys. damage really). Just having HP shards on your gear won't help much as u will be vulnerable to Phys. attacks that will eat up your HP even if it is high.

For PVE, having decent phys. def and hp will save you from phys. AOE and random aggro since u won't always be able to put up plume shell to protect yourself.

So i would shard gear with Phys def and refine for HP but if u can't afford to refine much and just want that extra HP to help against magic attacks (or plainly just want more security), then u can shard both HP and phys. def, depending on preference on which one u would want more.

+1 here. I've seen too many clerics go down due to AOE in instances due to low pdef. Not only that if you ever decide to TW...the TW factions will insist that you have a decent pdef.
