OMGBBQ everyone with R9 on a PVE server is soooo...
Well, really, are they?
I see a lot of people doing the QQ dance over this lately. On sanctuary, we have some R9 players. And by some... I think we have more R9 than most, if not all, other servers so far. I can run through W Arch and I will see at least 3 different players with R9 bow. Maybe 5 or 6 R9 venos. The Sins are harder to spot, daggers start to kinda look alike after a while, but if you scope them out, you'll see them.
Hell, there's an R9 barb with 47k HP in the faction my main belongs to.
So, I want to know... WHY are there so many R9 "OMG you are SOOOOOO CLUELESS" players on a carebear server?
And I think I know the answer.
Because PVP servers aren't as hardcore and all-important as they think they are, for one.
And two... Well... WHAT THE HELL DO YOU DO AT ENDGAME?! I mean, SERIOUSLY.
Maybe on PVP servers you find meaningful things to occupy your time, but on Sanctuary, the big pastime seems to be TW, open world PK, duels, and owning the living <censored> out of instances as fast as you can (open world PK and duels... Are kinda dieing off IMO). Not to mention making money, and that is a time management thing as well.
So... REALLY... Is R9 as completely, absolutely, blatantly POINTLESS on a PVE server as it's made out to be?
Do we want an orange and green map on EVERY PVE server?

R9 is a goal. Simply put.
It's called EndGame because that's where it stops.
When you're there, what else can you buy yourself but all the fash, all the gear, and all the mounts you can? You already have max bank, max fash slots, max inventory, more money than you can spend, enough coin to restat a billion times and see what builds SHOULD have been used... Charms, pots, etc. are all taken care of.. R9 is just another attainable goal to not let the game end. *** if they made R10 for the same lvl we'd buy it just because it's something to do.

According to marketing strategies there are 4 different types of people:
Drivers
Emotionals
Amiables
Analytics
The first two are FAST PACED. They do things efficiently, and quickly.
Drivers are task oriented; they have less friends, often less resources, and are less "with it."
If they get a clue-in though, that's all they need and they will dominate the field, and hella quick.
Emotionals are socially oriented; they get more input from everywhere, are often more distracted, and will tend to start a lot of projects and end them just as quickly.
These two types of people probably have several mid-high lvl charas and sit around bored going "I wish I could..."
Drivers: "Do all this stuff myself, reap the benefits myself, and be the best."
Emotionals: "have the best stuff to be as good/better than everyone before it's too late."
The last two are SLOW PACED. They do things in their own time, and for their own reasons.
Amiables are socially oriented and slow paced, so they listen a lot, don't act on impulse, and in the end will probably be the most aggrivating people to ever squad with. The very idea of PW as a long term MMORPG is pretty impressive. Believe you me if I could do things faster I would given time I will.

In Perfect World end game is competing against other players. Whether directly (pvp, tw) or indirectly (celestial tiger, COA, DT, Nien Quest)

You have managed to imply so many false assumptions, in so little time, but laughing is good for you!
Personally: I do not particularly enjoy PvP. But I can do it. On a PvP server, I would be white named (and I have a demon character on a PvP server, that I do not play because I do not like dealing with so many of the people there -- and I was killing people above my level and/or when I was outnumbered, and with I think two exceptions I only killed people that initiated hostilities).
Anyways, I lost interest in PvP, PvP was getting to be too big of a time sink for me, and my best friends were not there. (I did have some friends, and they have said they miss me when I show my face, but I have closer friends on Sanctuary.)
I just do not have a PvP mentality, I think. For me, PvP is mostly an angstful and unpleasant waste of time.
But, yes, I will agree that R9 on a PvE server is a waste of time. And, R9 on a PvP server is a waste of time. And, anything you do on any server is a waste of time.
The point here, in all of these games and servers, is to have fun while wasting your time!
Or that has been my goal, but perhaps some of you prefer having angstful and unpleasant feelings while wasting your time?0 -

Oh yea, PvP server is so l33t that they should only be the ones with r9 players...
You know so you can own (insert PK spot here) until (intsert faction name here) comes with force and ganks your group, you then QQ in GC for more people, buff up and re-gank (said spot back), and they run off to buff up, come back with force to re-take (said spot) and the cycle goes on till one of the groups dwindles due to AFKers, little kids getting called to dinner, clean their room, or time for school.0 -

Yep, R9 on a PvE server. While you play your way on a PvP server, the players that rolled on a PvE server get to play they're way. Nothing wrong w/ solid end-game gear (minus the large price, and OPness of the gear itself). Yes it's probably mostly used in PvE, which is rather easy w/ even TT90 gear let alone end-game gear such as Nirvana/R8/R9. People can also PK w/ it, which is an option on a PvE server after level 30.
Not all people are into blasting each other into dust w/ one shot, and having no control over it such as on a PvP server. Some of us are "carebears", and find our fun other ways.0 -
R9 is simply there to give you a virtual erection to stroke in front of others. its not needed for ****. u can get by in this game with TT 99 if u wanted.0

i pretty much got one shot by HiddenRage with his demon sparked +12 nirvana daggers (even without spark it was like a 1 second kill). and he has over 15k HP with my demon HP buff. This guy ain't wearing no TT 99s thats for sure. If a player wants to be able to compete with that kind of build, he must be equivalently geared. By that I mean same grade gears, shards, and refines.
thats why people go for Nirvy/R9. 99 gold is g12 - Nirvy is g15 - r9 is g16. Nirvy stage 2 and r9 give much nicer looking complect bonuses than 99 gold does as well. So logically speaking, if a person wants the best for his character regardless of what it gets used for - don't you think they'd want to upgrade?
Would you as a faction leader (I'm one) that likes to TW and doesn't want to get steam rolled by a single squad, want yourself and your faction mates to have better gear? I happen to be (at this point in time) the main non aps tank/catapuller for my faction, so for me its important to keep striving for the best gears I can obtain with the funds I'm working with.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

why should a few ppl in r9 matter to u when your still gonna get steamrolled by the top dominant faction (like enrage for example) when they decide they want to take the entire map again? all of a sudden ur pretty r9 will be useless and all you will be able to do is join the bandwagon. which will have all the r9 ppl u do have in your faction join the top TW faction on the server. and thus u will fail as a leader.
if we are REALLY talking about competition here, no r9 is going to go to some petty 3rd rate guild that can barely hold 1 territory.
and idk what you think is "competition" but one hitting everyone in the game that is not R9is not competition.
oh ya and btw, gratz in comparing a sin to every other class. a sin can kill a full R9 player with just 5-10 r8 gear and TT99 orns. ive seen it happen. MANY times.b:bye

i actually went to spend quite a bit of time on lost city, getting to know some people and watching pk, farming some instances, and even listening to someone talk about TW -- there are no differences that i found other than pvp is more organized and has more rules on a pvp server than on a pve server -- which of course leads to there being more pvp on a pvp server (duh)

Now that I've had some time to rest, I think you pretty much summed up what I was trying to.
I know someone on Sanct who farmed their R8, and R9 I believe. Grind, grind, grind. But they got the gear, and it's refined. Keeps me having hope that there are people with skill and sanity on the server... b:chuckle

Well, really, are they?
I see a lot of people doing the QQ dance over this lately. On sanctuary, we have some R9 players. And by some... I think we have more R9 than most, if not all, other servers so far. I can run through W Arch and I will see at least 3 different players with R9 bow. Maybe 5 or 6 R9 venos. The Sins are harder to spot, daggers start to kinda look alike after a while, but if you scope them out, you'll see them.
Hell, there's an R9 barb with 47k HP in the faction my main belongs to.
So, I want to know... WHY are there so many R9 "OMG you are SOOOOOO CLUELESS" players on a carebear server?
And I think I know the answer.
Because PVP servers aren't as hardcore and all-important as they think they are, for one.
And two... Well... WHAT THE HELL DO YOU DO AT ENDGAME?! I mean, SERIOUSLY.
Maybe on PVP servers you find meaningful things to occupy your time, but on Sanctuary, the big pastime seems to be TW, open world PK, duels, and owning the living <censored> out of instances as fast as you can (open world PK and duels... Are kinda dieing off IMO). Not to mention making money, and that is a time management thing as well.
So... REALLY... Is R9 as completely, absolutely, blatantly POINTLESS on a PVE server as it's made out to be?
Do we want an orange and green map on EVERY PVE server?
So... Every time I see someone call a player that is an R9 PVE player 'Clueless', it reflects back. You really have to be Clueless to call an R9 PVE player clueless in the first place.
Stop this idiocy, PLEASE. It's getting tiring seeing it on the forum over and over again. If you're all butt hurt over it, then that's fine. Take it somewhere else, like the store that sells inflatable donuts or something.

imo, r9 is just something to strive for when you've already got everything else and still want to play the game and be competitive.
Whether you play on a PVP server or a PVE server is irrelevant in the matter.
You know we do have TW on PVE servers, and when people have the time and the drive, sure they go for the best thats out there...because, why the hell not? Maybe they just want to be more effective at what they do, be it pvp or pve.
This PVP superiority mentality is laughable at best, as if most of the server isn't hidden away all the time in SZ and instances doing bh and fcc anyway.
Imo, the biggest, and only noteworthy difference between us and you is your wallets and epeens, and the way you talk superior about your wallets and epeens.
