Can you control which genie you get

    I don't believe you can control which you get, but you can always purchase whichever type you like with Mirage Stones.

    As for your character stats, no, they do not affect them.

    Genie stats effect the genie's skills, and has no direct influence on your char. Only through those skills.

    You have no control about which genie you get the first time (the free genie through quest) but you can buy a genie of your choise with 3 mirages
