genesis update = more rubberbanding than ever. How is it these things are only getting worse? come on guys, you're supposd to fix bugs, not create "random features"

have I been around? you bet!

While there are many MANY places ingame that rubberbanding occurs at, the easiest by far to reproduce, and one of the more annoying occurs when dropping from a standstill in air, to an NPC's head. This will produce a rubberband effect when attempting to get off the NPC 99% of the time.

A simple way to completely eliminate this sort of rubberbanding...is to just remove collision from the NPCs. There is no reason why NPCs need to be impassible objects, for example NPCs in the Cube of Fate have no collision. By making this simple change, you would be eliminating a large portion of the rubberbanding problems that people experience constantly.

Sometimes it is hard to tell if it is the rubber banding is the geometry issue when moving fast in-game, hardware lag, or network lag.

I would focus on geometry, specifically the z-coordinate. The precursor to rubber-banding in my case always (hopefully other will confirm) happens when my character "bounces" on landing, either from dropping from flight, teleporting, or maneuvering downhill. This may explain the inconsistency with some NPCs. If I don't "bounce" upon landing I don't rubber-band. If I do, and it can be a very small, I will rubber-band.

It appears from my perspective that after this "bounce", if there is not a corresponding z-coordinate surrounding your current (x,y) position rubber-banding occurs.

In your previous posts you suggest using A, S, D, W key to free your character. This tends to work very well on the downhill geometry; however, if my character happens to bounce too high, this solution will not work.

If you are, we need some info from you!

First, actually go through our Knowledge Base to see if it is a networking, antivirus, or hardware lag issue FIRST.

Please follow the directions of this post. This thread is not to post opinions, flames, comments, etc. This is to help us research this so we can work on finding out what is causing it.

    1) Where in the game world are you experiencing this? (provide full coordinates and screenshots or videos)

    2) Which NPC were you landing on, or what were you landing on when you experienced this?

    3) What exactly were you doing when the issue started occurring? (auto pathing somewhere, fighting a mob, flying over somewhere?)

    4) Post a link to your dxdiag here.

    5) How were you moving in the game world? (click with mouse, or keyboard keys like WASD)

Add any additional info that can help QA reproduce the glitch, the more detailed, the better.

    Thank you all! b:pleased

Rubberbanding happens almost every time when dropping altitude in any manner by ending flight, jumping, falling, etc and landing on a non-flat surface be it a slope, an object or an npc. Almost every instance of this occurs in these conditions in my experience.

    1) Where in the game world are you experiencing this? (provide full coordinates and screenshots or videos)

Any NPC, Any Slope, Sometimes when landing in water.

    2) Which NPC were you landing on, or what were you landing on when you experienced this?

/All/ and may I stress, /All/. Other incidences, walking down hill while jumping. (Remedy is to walk back uphill for a sec, then back down.) (Might also be related to Hellhound mount getting stuck in 'jump' position while going /up/ hills and jumping. Fix: to go down hill)

Infrequently, if landing in water, I will hit water, then rubber band above it. Flying again usually fixes it.

    3) What exactly were you doing when the issue started occurring? (auto pathing somewhere, fighting a mob, flying over somewhere?)

Autopathing to any NPC.. Jumping while traveling up or down. (read: Z axis disagreement between Server and Client)

    4) Post a link to your dxdiag here.

    At the end of post.

    5) How were you moving in the game world? (click with mouse, or keyboard keys like WASD)

Auto path, mouse, keys.. doesn't matter. If I land.. it makes an issue.

Add any additional info that can help QA reproduce the glitch, the more detailed, the better.

Fly to an NPC and land, walk to an NPC and hop ontop... (this is REALLY a pain for lvls 1-29 without flight.. Town Portal every time)

I started having this issue right after a game update.. oh, two years ago abouts now? It was definitely an update though, it worked fine, then update, then broke ever since.

I have had this problem on Multiple installs of Windows XP, in Windows Vista, and in Windows 7. I have this problem on all my characters.. it doesn't matter whether I am downloading a ton, or if I am on PWI on a light network day.. same result. Connection: 1.5 meg DSL, D-link router, netgear 1Gbit switch.

    Thank you all! b:pleased[/QUOTE]

Ok I think its obvious, if you land ANYWHERE on any NPC -or- TERRAIN YOU WILL *RUBBERBAND* which I believe is due to poor coding. I know this takes alot of work to fix but with these auctions and cash shop you should be able to fix the DDos problem by a new server host, and allow 12 hours to upload to the new coding/servers. Would love thatb:pleased

Why u ask us to give you our tech info?
the rubberbanding is not related to our computers, its related to game coding
its related to server capacity, its related to bad support from devs
stop asking us to give you guys input and fix it
you want to know how to rubberband, fly and drop from a height, or just jump from a building or hill, everywhere in the map, out or inside instances
you want to be sure you will rubberband? drop over any npc, if the first time for some miracle you dont rubberband, then try again and you will
using wasd keys dont work most of the times
for you fellow players, want to get out of your rubberbanding? mount your fly again, it does
go out to character selection and return, it does
its hell of annoying, yes, but we are on our own here, devs have no better solution either
so guys, fix it, if you dont know how, then hire ppl that does, you have the money to do it
and thank your players for the patience, not you for taking the heat, that is your job after all
    regards

yeah, i dont know why they want this thread to be up, the devs either dont care and want us to 'feel' like they give a ****. or, they have their heads are so far up their asses, they cant even see anymore. this is a fail thread, and so are the devs.
    This will make you laugh!

My comptuer has been fine with landing and such until genesis pack. At first i thought it was just my mystic, the new classes had issues, right?
No, as soon as I went on my cleric the same thing happened. I try and get down from flying right above the ground and i rubberband.
So, DON'T try and land on ANY npc's head. And only way off is to fly.
I rubberband ALOT when trying to go down hills, which happened before a bit.
But it's so bad now, as the above posts, it has NOTHING to do with my computer.
It was fine with everything until genesis pack.
YOU mods and developers need to fix it. Our side is fine.
You know..since more then HALF of the community has been angry with the rubberbanding and is experiencing it.
We don't all have the same computer you know.
When you do the patching for the rest of the EG skills and whatnot, I'd hope you would fix the bugs.
it makes it very hard to play sometimes when you can't get out of a falling loop.

I don't know if GM's or someone is reading this posts, but i am gonna post this rubberbanding place.. I am posting this, mostly as it would be bad for male low lvl (blue name) character, and the only solution when you ll get here is to delete the character :s
Yea, because you cant get PKed (if blue name) you cant TP, you cant be carried (male) and you cant get killed by a mob cause no nearby mobs, and reloging doesnt fix it...

Cords are: 541 622 (and around that place, it is like a place full of rubberbanding = no exit)

Not that i ll ever get there again XD But to post it, if it is of any interest to be fixed (for dont know what reason :p)...

I don't feel the full details are necessary as plenty of others have given the same thing but I'll include them anyway.

    1) So far on a few different NPC's in the city of the lost and one in the Raging tides. I don't believe it is location specific.

    2) This has happened because of landing on an NPC from a jump and also falling on an NPC off of a cliff.

    3) Each time I have been moving forwards, either with auto-path or while holding down W.

    4) Woops didn't read this one through, I'll read up on how to provide this if I report something again.

    5) Already explained above. The main reason I posted however is because I noticed it only seemed to happen on NPC's that had weapons. Although I somehow got stuck on my pet briefly a few times but as it was moving anyway I only bounced on/off of it 2-3 times. So this is probably a completely useless lead to duplicating and smiting this bug. D'oh!

Thanks for looking into this and thanks for providing such a great game for free, it's dearly appreciated even if I have to spend a minute or two unsticking myself from an NPC every so often. (Kinda amusing to watch anyway :P)

Why not just change the auto-path Path coordinates (in the auto-path system) to the NPCs a little, so that you not land on the heads of NPCs?

If we do not land on the NPC heads, we dont stuck or rubberbanding. ;)

It is time that the support or the Developer does something against the problem.

It's gotta be an issue with collisions against the static meshes. I don't seem to have the problem with the additions/subtractions within the level.

I've found that any time I land with forward momentum on an angled surface that my characters feet get stuck.

    This could be:

Flying forward, and dropping without stopping first.

Jumping down the side of a mountain.

    Landing on any npc.

Landing on a building with a mesh roof.

    etc.

What I have found to help in the meantime:

When auto-pathing, or mouse moving while flying... Stop your character's x/y movement before dropping your wings and falling.

When jumping down mountains and hills, don't click move, or hold a directional arrow when you hit the ground (release keys right before impact works).

When landing straight down on an npc, click fly again a little bit before you get to the ground to pull your wings back up, and then drop em again from a low elevation. This helps stop the sticking.

If you get stuck in the outside world, just hit up your wings and fly out of it...

If you get stuck in an instance, or no fly area:

    Stop pressing directional arrows!

If you are on a mount, dismount.

Let your character settle back into the regular standing pose (be patient, it will happen).

Now, without pressing any directional arrow, jump straight up twice (your feet should be dislodged). Once you are well above the object, press a directional arrow to move.

If you are on the side of mountain or hill, and still have a good ways to go, make sure to stop pressing the arrows before your feet hit the ground again.

Repeat until you are free again.

Relogging helps sometimes in severe cases, and if all else fails... teleport! In rare instances typing "/gm boo" will pull up the I'm stuck dialog, and you might get a gm to move you.

    Hope this helps...

No we don't understand. This happened over night like 8 months or so ago. Why can't you fix it just as easily? If rubber-banding was done intentionally, just fess up and tell us.

you my friend are wrong. this bug actually pre dates genies. it happened afterr a paatch in 2009. i'm not coding expert but i would think going back to all the patch notes in that year would reveal some sort of clue as to why it''s happening. the taime they take to make sales and new races they could be fixing these bugs. there is no rubberbanding what so ever when i fisrt came to this game then one patch poped up and you get this problem. no way in hell it could be my computer it's rather powerful.

It's not often as easy as ya think when repairing a map. Rebuilding the geometry, pathing, lighting, etc each time you check a fix can take all day with a map as big as this.

its nice that there's a sticky for this issue now, seein as i recall when rubberbanding was one of those unacknowledged bugs. ive never really had that much of an issue with rubberbanding in the game unless i was droppin from fly mode from high overhead to a congested area like archo, which, i should have expected seein as how my latency spikes up a fair bit and fps down when i hit these areas.. now i've noticed since i've been playing my mystic whos now in her early 20's, that this seems this is more commonplace in the entire zone, i dont get it in other zones, just the new areas, even on my other chars like my veno or my cleric (currently running my lvl 36 cleric thru the questline just to the right of tellus city) and it happens alot, usually while autopathing to something i've clicked in the quest log and i'm wasd'n around obsticles, droppin off rocks, etc. even when flying sometimes (which is odd, hittin fly mode was usually the cure for rubberbanding) i'd give ya a dxdiag readout but i reeeealy dont feel like it so i'll give ya a rundown of system specs

    AMD Athalon x2 64-bit dual-core processor @2.6 ghz
    2gb DDR2-800 ram
400gb hdd partitioned in 3, each part with at least 20 gig free space (more then ample for any swap file expansion
nVidia GeForce 9400GT 1gb ddr2 PCI-E (with pci-e clock speed set to about 120 in the bios)
Windows 7 ultimate (32 bit), most unused services (such as wifi and print spooler) turned off to cut down running processes
Themes and DWM off while game running (usually)

Video, audio, and directx drivers all at latest update
TCP/IP settings tweaked to allow small packets to send without delay (i believe they call this "disabling naggling"), approx average ping 250 in most zones, seems to spike up by 100 or so in some of the new zones, even when no players are within "radar" range on my map.
FPS averaging around 50 in "old-world" zones, 30-40 in new earthguard areas (must be the new textures or something)

clearly theres some "finishing touches" on the new expansion to work on, such as quest text still in original japanese, oh and the new leveling guide always showin me japanese stuff (great help for the newbies there btw, good job pwi ;) ) banding seems to be a major issue as well.. ah well beggars cant be choosers i guess, at least you got that nasty ugly font glitch fixed..

That they wont bother to look at...

Waste of time people. This is a game issue. Has nothing to do with your system. Do the Dev's play the same game we do?

I play on four various different systems, laptops PC etc. It's all exactly the same. The only real major difference between them is a is a bit of graphical difference that doesn't effect gameplay. For example my psy looks different on 3 of the systems LOL. She has this weird tattoo on her face on one. A Grey face which is different from my black skin. And on another computer its wrong face and hair altogether.

I tend to try not to fly at all. Because landing is a 305/70% luck of the draw. All a player has to do is .. try and round up mobs while flying. Do this about 20 times. Every time you try to land to atk said mobs, you won't be able to cast at all unless you run in any direction for about 2 or 3 seconds, any cleric can vouche for this when they tried to do spiders.

In TW, its risky to go to the air, cause if you want to land to .. either get away from some or attack someone on the ground. You risk a 30% chance you wont be able to.

Then there is that dreaded 10% chance you will have to open then close your wings again bug cause you CANT land no matter how hard you try to run the rubberband away.

This won't be fixed. They dont know how.
