Question for atom users

Hi there, I've read a couple of threads about running PWI on a atom based netbook in which it's already stated it actually works fine. I would like to know if the machine itself runs too hot and needs cooling or it does not strain to much regarding physical conditions.

Thanks in advance.

much will depend on the graphics chipset your netbook uses. if too much of the rendering work gets pushed back to the CPU, the atom won't keep up; my Asus EEE 1005 does NOT run PWI, at all.

I haven't an Atom in my netbook, but a Via Nano, a more or less comparable processor.

My experiences have told me that the chipset/videocard and the driver for both decides if PWI works or not.
playing PWI is the most "warming" program I run on my netbook. but it is as warm as normal laptops being idle.
For being playable I need to use the mains. because that 300MHz more on mine makes a big difference.

    Hi, thanks for your answers.

I just tested the netbook (Atom N550 inside) this weekend and it is actually playable. Only west Archosaur is unbearable.

Regarding the topic question, it kind of heats up. This particular chip has higher power consumption so it may heat up more than netbooks with N270 processors. Not as much as a non-gaming laptop though, but I'd say external cooling is recommended.
