You guys are right, the original reason for multi-clienting being bannable, the fact that you had to modify game files, is no longer in play.

We on the PWI staff are currently talking about whether or not the rules should be re-visited and possibly modified. For now the same rule remains -- multi-clienting is not permitted -- but we will let you know if anything changes over the next few days of talks.

If I was PK'ing someone for that long in room 1 it would have been for a justifiable reason =P

20 people? Okay now I'm proud of Enrage b:chuckle

Glad I made you rage hard enough to get banned

    Where is it?

Head out the main highway. Turn left three blocks before the house that old Frank used to live in. It's in the building that used to be the General Store.

I hadn't a clue about editing anything to get on, as far as i know, the client in general lets you open as many as you can just by hitting the element.exe lol, well nice to know the rule may get updated, at least i hope so, it would make having multiple chars have a good purpose.

TL;DR version: When PWI was released, elementclient.exe would not allow you to open two copies. Enterprising folks modified (and released into the wild) the client with that restriction removed. Shortly (few months) after release, changes were made by PWI devs to the client that lifted this restriction, but the launcher still gave you the "already running" error when you attempted to start a second instance. Some time after that, the launcher stopped giving the error.

The other 30 pages or so of thread (this and two others) in the past week or so have been folks insulting each other.

They do give a straight answer. The answer is "It's not allowed. It's a bannable offense. Don't do it." It doesn't get any more straightforward than that.

What they haven't given (and probably won't) is a reason for this.

No they don't because they never define in detail what multiboxing vs multiclienting is. We're living in an age of multi-core processors, multi board boxes, and networked computing. Until they outline what's wrong with whatever they seem to have an issue with: they leave it open to their own interpretation.

uh Multi boxing is using more then one BOX (computer), multiclienting is using one pc with multi ... clients on that one pc..... THAT'S been defined idk how many thousand times on the forums....

Saw that in quite a few threads too, it's considered still the same pc, so bannable. At least atm...

Actually, they're pretty straightforward about what they intend -- as far as 99.9% of the player population is concerned. One client per computer.

I'm pretty sure that the more exotic situations (Virtual machines running in isolated OS instances on a single physical machine, multiple boards each running as separate "computers" but inside a single box, etc.) have all been discussed by players but never addressed by GMs. Probably because they don't care, and as far as the game is concerned, individual instances *are* "separate computers". On the other hand, a multicore processor running a single instance of Windows is still a single computer, no matter how badly you want to redefine it. What ambiguity is left has yet to be defined in a meaningful fashion by anyone, so you can't fault PWI for that.

Honestly, if you have the means and motivation to setup a system running multiple full virtual machines to run PWI... well, it's probably easier and cheaper to build a second box to run your second client, and it'll probably run better as well.

didn't read any post but the title.

the client still attempts to stop multi-clienting, but like the previous, the security is total fail. it's still looking to stop multiple 'element client' applications from being opened, but pwi renamed their client to 'perfect world international', so they bypassed their own fail security.

    What about Remote Desktop?
If I was a new player, after reading ToS without digging forums and asking GMs / sending ticket (because honestly, why should I), how would I know what is OK and what not? Talking about multiclienting.

Don't believe so. *Players* have brought the question up in multiple threads, some of which also have GMs posting the usual "Multiple clients on one computer is bannable. I can't recall a GM *ever* responding to specific posts or questions raised within threads (such as virtual machines). I've only ever seen the generic response.
