I have an opinion and I want to know if anyone else its agree with me...why isn,t there a realm for trading and another one for playing?...because the archosaur has become a hell with all those kitty shops allover the place...and for those with not so fast computers its lagging a lot...thats my oppinion...it should be made a realm for trading and the arch will be more clean...:)

What the hell do you DO in Archosaur (that requires 30FPS) anyway ?

Alasen, I have the same problem OP has. My PC runs with an integrated graphics chip so if I run around in Arch it sometimes freezes like hell... Though I don't need a new realm to fix that. I just stay out of Arch.

dudes....you drink to much cola?...it was a question...on the other hand...even if its not lagging...the arch its a total ****...all the streets filled with kitties...at least it could be a separated zone for those shops...sometime u barely see the NPC in all that mess...this is my point of view...and I said about realms because I played other games from PW..like forsaken world...they have trading realm...battle of the immortals...trading realm...so...why can't be here...I want answers from decent people..not from those who are proud with the super mega polifantastic computer of them...

Perhaps the wiki should have a new myth added:

MYTH: The Archosaur cat-shops cause lag

FACT: The high density of players in Archosaur, combined with the failure of the game to discard old textures, causes lag.

It's dead-easy to test and prove too.

Shut the game down completely, then re-load it and select Best Performance mode (CTRL+F9). With no players visible, but all the cat-shops visible I get a snappy ~45 FPS on my good computer and ~20 FPS on my junk laptops.

Now turn off Best Performance mode and wait. As more and more players pass by the game will load more and more textures, but it will never unload them. The game will slowly but surely get more and more sluggish. After about an hour my good computer is down to ~15 FPS and my junk laptops are pushing ~5 FPS.

In both cases the exact same number of cat-shops are visible, which is clear proof that they're not the problem.

I see idiots duel there all the time. "Oh that one didn't count, lagged."

umm... walking, questing, attempting to shop

West Arch lags like hell on my laptop because of the high density of cat-shops. No it's not because of other players running around, I've gotten stuck for upwards of three minutes before with my client on best performance and flying over the mess doesn't always helpb:cry. I'm all for a mini dungeon type place just for the cat-shop alts.

What WarrenWolfy said. Cat shops don't cause lag, from what I can tell--I don't lag AT ALL on my crappy laptop on Best Performance mode in Arch. When I do, it's either because I have Best Performance off, or because I'm standing next to the banker, or the auctioneer, or some other NPC where there's always a million people just standing around. My screen does freeze occasionally if enough people are idling on their flyers or flashy mounts at those NPCs. Walking through Arch, though? Hardly any lag. I make sure Best Performance is on whenever I enter the city, and turn it back off when I leave. No problems.

And for the record, my laptop has an integrated graphics card--certainly not a "super mega polifantastic computer"--and doesn't handle some other games too well, but PWI works great on it.

No it's not because of other players running around
So how come when I test it with ONLY the cat-shops visible they have zero effect on FPS?

To test even further, I just walked into West Archo with ProcessMonitor running.

Over the course of exactly 1 second there were 211 read requests for graphics data from models.pck, shaders.pck, gfx.pck, and facedata.pck. All of that data ends up being cached, and the game holds onto it for far, far longer than it ever needs to.

Then, I turned off visibility for other players and checked again. Same number of cat-shops visible, but over the course of 10 seconds there were only 48 requests for graphics data.

So just having players visible results in 44 times as many graphics read requests from the hard-drive.

By all means, if you can find a test-case which shows any evidence that it's the cat-shops that are flooding texture memory, I'd be interested to see your proof.

Actually, I've always thought West Archo was ugly. I deliberately avoided it as much as I could for a long, long time.

But then I started to realize that I was literally throwing money away. West Archo consistently has the best prices and widest selection on pretty much everything.

Sure, there could be other alternatives that would move the trading somewhere else out of sight, but overall it's not really a big deal. I find clicking "Hide Player Names" when I'm in West Archo cleans up the mess quite nicely.

^ that. also, it's probably just my imagination, but i think clicking "hide player names" buys me back a few FPS all by itself in west arch.

yes, questing there is a bit of a pain, but a very few levels later you run out of quests in west arch. then the only reason to ever go back there is the catshops. (used to be i had to say, "and crazy stone, until you hit 40 and can start to bounty hunt". but now there's the new celestial whatchamacallit daily that gives you quests about as good, starting even earlier, accessible from lots of other places. i never much liked crazy stone anyway.)

What I do, is I set graphics at minimum before i go to town, and in the UI tab of options menu, I set distances and special effects to minimum, and turn off displaying names.
