Sometimes it is hard to tell if it is the rubber banding is the geometry issue when moving fast in-game, hardware lag, or network lag.

Please use the mouse to click on something in the game world to navigate around the issue carefully, or fly in a different direction.

Try to only walk on inclined slopes or hills, not run or move fast if you get this issue.

Also try holding the W, A, S, or D keys down and jumping until you get unstuck.

You forgot "Don't use auto-path" and "Don't fall off anything" and "Stay away from any terrain unevenness, even rocks." b:sad

i found an... "interesting" example of this while leveling up my psychic a while ago. at nightfire altar there are NPCs on two levels, arranged such that it's possible for a 1x player to walk off the higher level and land on an NPC's head. (the "guard somebody-or-other", IIRC.) my town portal was in cooldown, too, as i recall. i got insanely lucky and the wasd-jumping-chaotic-movement method actually got me off within a minute or two, one of the very few cases where that's actually worked at all for me.

Something I noticed on the rubber-banding issue - if you just jump off a cliff, say the drop-off that leads down to the TT entrance for example, the odds are you'll be rubber-banding when you hit the bottom.

But... if you click on the landscape just past the rim of the drop-off, your character will simply 'slide' down the terrain (as it is actually trying to move to the location where you clicked) until it hits the bottom. Then you can just click or use the movement keys to continue moving and voila - no rubber-banding!

Rubber-banding on steep terrain can also be canceled by clicking some location 'uphill' from your characters position. This takes maybe only slightly less time than popping your fly mount or wings, but can save you some time once you learn how to do it, and comes in handy when riding a ground-mount. The biggest draw-back is, that it only works in those situations when you are near some type of sloping terrain.

Anyway, I hope these tricks and observations give the players a little relief, and the GM's some ideas for pursuing the problem. It seems to me that the action involved just prior to getting caught up in rubber-banding is happening a little too fast for the data to be transmitted properly and that the player position gets out of sync between the server and the client. Like when you spawn a model that is slightly above the terrain - it instantly drops. Only in this case, a signal is being sent back that the model is still above the terrain, so it gets caught in an infinite, dropping/reposition loop until some other action is taken to break out of it.

Ideas for correcting or reducing the problem:
Insert a simple roll animation on landings when jumping or falling large distances to slow things down upon impact and automatically break the reposition loop?

Have flying mounts/wings drop a player to the ground, but remain activated until a player sends a second command to stop flying or dismount - then the drop will be insignificant and the incidence of rubber-banding in conjunction with landings should be dramatically reduced.

As always - Good Luck Everyone!

If you are, we need some info from you!

First, actually go through our Knowledge Base to see if it is a networking, antivirus, or hardware lag issue FIRST.

Please follow the directions of this post. This thread is not to post opinions, flames, comments, etc. This is to help us research this so we can work on finding out what is causing it.

    1) Where in the game world are you experiencing this? (provide full coordinates and screenshots or videos)

    2) Which NPC were you landing on, or what were you landing on when you experienced this?

    3) What exactly were you doing when the issue started occurring? (auto pathing somewhere, fighting a mob, flying over somewhere?)

    4) Post a link to your dxdiag here.

    5) How were you moving in the game world? (click with mouse, or keyboard keys like WASD)

Add any additional info that can help QA reproduce the glitch, the more detailed, the better.

    Thank you all! b:pleased

Here's a thought...why not have some of the PWI techies run through the game to see the issues and debug them? Can't they see the coding? Don't they have a play/debugging mode? If not...then MAKE one lol

This might have already been said...I got sick of reading after 10 pages...but...

This issue isn't a new thing. The rubberbanding was a common issue before the whole user interface changes (same time as tideborns being released maybe? I forget). With this release the rubberbanding was for the most part fixed.

I left the game for a while so I can't say when it started up again but I mean come on...is it really that complicated to look back and see what the devs fkd up?

Why the heck does it matter what my performance is and ****. I may not have the best computer ever but I can play TONS of other MMOs on the web like 2029 online, Cabal Online and much more and I won't expierence ANY lag/Rubber banding AT ALL.

In PWI it happens NO MATTER WHAT. I've put my settings on THE COMPLETE LOWEST and its done absolutely NOTHING. It happens if i use mouse, WASD or even auto path. My opinion is is that the host server IS ****. And more time needs to be spent on improving gameplay experience

hope this helps just found out about this thread. i'd like to add this happened after an update some time in 2009 my memory is hazy it could be around the time then jolly jones was giving out those packs that had jiazoi in it. i know nothing about coding, i''m not sure if this little tidbit of info would be any help, but hey maybe knowing a general idea when it started can help.......i hope

wow ok.. well lets see, any NPC, whethere im dismounting, or auto pathing... the only fix is to fly again. umm jumping from any large heights, no matter where i am in the map. Jumping down a hill so i think that covers just about everything... everything causes the ruybber banding and glitching out :D hope it gets fixed reallllllly soon

it seems that whenever there are alot of people on or im on a crappy strength pc that the game runs smooth or has slow lag(which i love by the way[compared to rubber banding])
but on my computer.. which is a decent computer the game rubber bands. im serious i think my pc might be too strong for pwi at certain times, like i said earlier it only works well on my computer if the game is highly populated. the way i tell the game is too fast before i even go on a server the fish and the water in the background go extremely fast. i know this isnt going to help you fix the problem.. but thats just what is happening to me, oh by the way the rubberbanding is happening everywhere, say if i run for about 1 whole second i go back to where i was.

Any plans to remove this feature you guys added to counter speed hacks when the expansion goes live? There are far better ways to block hacks then adding things of this nature.

It is shameful that PWE made a huge upgrade (Genesis), but past mistakes like rubberbanding were not corrected. Where is the problem?

LOL 40 Developers cant fix one very old Bug. ^^

Sorry but thats what i think.

    1) Where in the game world are you experiencing this? Everywhere, there's no exact location; it happens everywhere.

    2) Which NPC were you landing on, or what were you landing on when you experienced this? Everywhere and mostly every single NPC.

    3) What exactly were you doing when the issue started occurring? autopathing and just walking. I've learned to not take a shortcut and jump off hills and cliffs because I'll just get stuck there.

    4) Post a link to your dxdiag here.

Just give up people..... this thread's been sticked since 2010..... these bleepign devs can't figure out something like this, which is pretty sad............

If it happens, just fly and dismount again (annoying to waste 3 seconds but ya....). If your'e on a MOUNT and it happens...... and you can't get OUT of the banding loop..... relog (only option there..)

If you're not 30 yet or cant' fly... just relog real quick.

What i find funny though... darth's frst post in this looks like he's blaming this on our systems..... EVERY SINGLE PERSON PLAYING rubberbands...... ya... it's our systems.. christ i built mine and it dont' frack up on ANYTHING (except THIS game). d'oh

this started happening after a patch in 2009. when i first started palying this game rubberbanding NEVER happened period. i could jump down a cliff, let mysself drop from high places and land on an ncp, and fall into water all without rubberbanding back then.. then a patch came on and things went to hell. at first, you rubber band just from walking or taking off to fly, i stopped playing for like 6 months, came back and the rubberbanding started happening then you land from high heights instead.

can't the devs just look at the coding from 2009? this happens to EVERYONE. even ppl who have decently fast computers

Just give up people..... this thread's been sticked since 2010..... these bleepign devs can't figure out something like this, which is pretty sad............

I'm incredibly determined. I'm going to report every single instance of rubber band I encounter on this thread. Even if this thread is filled with posts from me. Everyone else that's irritated about this problem should also report every single rubber band they encounter.

    - I rubberband when I drop from the air at an angle.
    - I rubberband when I drop from the air in a straight line.
    - I rubberband when I land on an NPC.
    - I rubberband when I Holy Path in a straight line.
    - I rubberband when I holy path in a curve.
    - I rubberband when I'm falling down a steep decline (eg. down 1k).
    - I rubberband when I'm walking down a gentle decline.
    - I rubberband when I jump down a steep decline.
    - I rubberband on top of the boxes @ last boss in TT1-x.

    I rubberband a lot.

As do I. But I'm willing to report any instance of rubberbanding I find, even if it's in the same places, even if I've already reported it.

It has gotten to a point where my characters rubber-band "by breathing" meaning I don't even have to move for it to start occurring. Its especially annoying when entering water and not being able to get out of them unless logging out and back in. Fun times.

HAHAHAHA! even a mod is complaining about this. im tired of this ****. youd think with all the complaing we are doing, it would get fixed. it is by far the most annoying bug in the game. the devs must have about 30-40 ss ive taken. but hey what do i know, im just the sucker playing the game. by the way, the new expansion sucks. theres a new glitch... clicking genie skills doesnt always 'click'.

reinstall the game, its what i had to do to get back into fb/bh 51, i think its the map data that got corrupted somehow.

i tried clearing out the temp files.. but there are 2 files which says cannot be deleted, another person or user is accesing the file, when i have no other program running

its possible that you have a process running that is accessing those files, prs cntrl+alt+del to open up your task manager, then click on the processes tab and check it out.

LMAO this made me giggle soooo hard.
It's the end of PWI as we know it. Packs going to 50 cents jumped our economy up to 1mil per gold. It's over for non-cashoppers.

I know you asked for this to not be a flame/QQ thread, but its kinda messed up that your team is incapable of fixing a serious bug that is what, two years old now?

I am not sure if I should laugh or feel insulted that you are trying to "determine" if rubberbanding in pwi is due to our hardware or our isp, its not. When every single player knows what rubberbanding is due to personal experience with it, you gotta be blind if you can't rule out hardware and isp as a cause.

Not only that, the glitch is easily repeatable. Anyone who has actually played the game can tell you what causes it. If you don't know what situations result in rubberbanding, maybe you should try playing your own game, or if thats too much for you, read your forums.

Even if it was cause by hardware or ISP, the fact that EVERYONE experiences it still means that it is a failure of your coding.
