General info - Sanctuary server
Homebuilt box... Core2 2.5ghz
NVidia 9800GT
4GB of RAM
Win 7 ultimate 64 bit
Cable internet, speed tested at 13mbps down 1mbps up
Gigabit ethernet to my router, which has a direct 100mbit connection to the router
Router has updated firmware
No funky firewalls on my PC, run virus scan... NO network activity when PWI is off, and pinging other servers, I get pings in the 60-80ms frame. Playing CoD, I get pings from 70-120ms.

This has been getting worse and worse over the past few days. Ping goes from 280-400 in random places, usually a consistent 380 in FB instances/TT. Everything is fine running around and moving, until combat is initiated, then everything LAGS. Squadmates jump around, mobs/bosses jump around, character goes from standing to attack is cast... IE, really bad connection lag. West Arch gives me a ping of 120ms. Soo confused on this. Why am I lagging in instances, when I want good ping, and not in West Arch, when there's so much garbage on my screen that a good ping is worthless? When I'm not lagging from ping, I'm getting a video lag, even though I have a good frame rate (40+). Turning on Performance mode doesn't make any difference at all in this, what-so-ever.

Is there a way I can diagnose if this is some random router between my ISP and Sanctuary's ISP lagging/dropping out, or is this a known issue I didn't see stickied because I'm blind? I can barely play my cleric because squad health/mana bar doesn't update except for once every 3-5 seconds, which is long enough for party members to get killed. b:sad

Oh its a known issue that there are lag spikes occasionally... the infrastructure the servers were built on I am assuming is kind of struggling nowadays...
Any ping under 500ish and you'll be fine, my average is 250 and I live all the way on the other side of the country as LC

Are lag spikes supposed to be 23 hours and 45 minutes of the day? I get more of a 'lag break' for a bit, then it lags again...

It wouldn't be a problem if they were random. They are a problem when every time you attack Haggist Geezlot, or any other boss, you suddenly are 2 seconds behind what's actually happening. Squad or no squad. totally alone in your own little section of the world, or in a big group. Ping will ramp way up when you find yourself a boss, at least for me and a few people in my faction.

All I've been doing lately is crafting and errand quests, because I'm tired of lagging on hard bosses/mobs and losing exp due to death by lag.

I'm having the same issue. Given my machine isnt top of the line I didn't have any problems until recently. My ping and FPS would be fine for a minute or two then my ping shoots up and my FPS drops to 1-3. I thought it was me at first so I ran virus and malware scans optimized my graphics turned off firewalls defraged my hard drive reset modem, router and computer. No change in performance of game. What in the world is going on.

Could you please provide us with trace routes from your computer to our servers that you play on? (delete the first one if it shows your initial IP address)

    1) Click on Start > click on Run (or in the Windows Search box)> type in cmd

    2) On this screen type in (exactly as it is typed here): tracert pwieast1.perfectworld.com (You can use any of the IP addresses to our servers that are listed below. Try several.)
Please note there is a space between "tracert" and "pwieast1.perfectworld.com"

    3) Wait for the traceroute to complete.

    4) Right Click on the window

    5) Select the "Select all" option

    6) Hit "Enter"

    7) You will now be able to paste the text into your reply.

    8) Include in the body of your e-mail what Internet Service Provider you are using and what part of the world you are trying to connect from.

I've been having lag since the crash of DW 2 days ago I think it was.
Its obviously not my computer cause I could be on max settings, or on best
performance and it will still have the spell/pickup delay.

(Also note, this just started since that crash, before I had no problem with lag on any setting)

This is not the problem within the players. It's your servers and you know it. Mostly everyone i asked has about 350~ ms pings. This is a big problem and maybe there is a solution to it? Maybe you can patch it up ? Fix the servers or smthng ? And by the way , where are the servers standing ? (Country , region)

Is there a correlation between the PING value and the FPS rate when I mouse over the EXIT icon at the bottom right corner of the screen? My toon would be standing at a quiet part of the zone with not much activities around, and the PING and FPS would be jumping between the Green to Red numbers. The inconsistency and the spikiness of the lag make it difficult to play this game at times. I have adjusted down (to zero) all of the graphics enhancement in the UI, except for distance ( at 3/4 bar) and that doesn't seem to help much. I will also try the 'traceroute' as suggested by 'darthpanda16' to see what's going on with this game.

I think thats just Sanctuary server with this problem thats so severe. I'm in Raging Tides and I have the worst non-gaming laptop running the game but I still need all my graphics off and need game booster and advance system care for little to none lag spikes... PWI staff needs to upgrade the core systems maintaining the servers so this severe lag doesn't happen.. b:sweat
Aghh! My avatar pictures won't show up because my internet loaths me. b:surrender

Hi Felicitious, What are the 'game booster and advance system care' you mentioned in your posting? Could you share them so I could get back in to play the game?

btw: I tried the 'tracert' and saw lots of time outs going to the "pwigc2.perfectworld.com" Santuary server. The 'tracert' never finished with the 30 hops setting.

Following will be the PING and TRACERT from my PC to the Sanctuary server at 'pwigc2.perfectworld.com'.

My network provider is ATT U-Verse. I am located in California, San Francisco Bay Area.

I have also added my PC configuration to show it has decent power to play. Please use my PING and TRACERT as an example.

Could someone from PWI Tech Support enlighten us as to what we are seeing with the PING and TRACERT please? Thank you in advance.

I'm pretty sure that the ping responses for servers are blocked to decrease internet traffic because I tried to ping the pwieast1.perfectworld.com (Harshlands) in a sequence of 8 tries and all requests got timed out.
    I used:
    ping pwieast1.perfectworld.com -n 8 > c:\test.txt

    Just for a comparison:
    C:\>ping google.com -n 8

Pinging google.com [74.125.225.17] with 32 bytes of data:

    Reply from 74.125.225.17: bytes=32 time=13ms TTL=56
