Earthguard Skin

To be straight up front about it, I'm not sure whether this would go into suggestions, or if it belongs in here. I'm posting it here because I'd think this would qualify as a programming problem rather than an intended feature to tweak.
At any rate, I searched for other references to this issue and didn't find any. So here goes!
The skin you pick for your Earthguard doesn't actually seem to correlate to the skin they come out with, nor the portrait. Heck, it rarely even comes close. This appears to be an issue between the image given during character generation and what the actual product becomes. This makes trying to find that nice middle ground between tan and fair-skinned people an agonizing thing. At least for people who fuss with looks like I do.
Anyway, the fact that the character generation's skin image is not what you get seems to be a programming error. The probable reason for this is the setting in which the character is featured during generation; that is, the Eartguard territories. With some research and testing, I've realized that the lighting there is very different from the lighting in most of the rest of the game, and therefore might be skewing the image. Otherwise, I dunno.
Problem is, that's not conducive to creating the image you want to last, and with a two day time limit on editing, it can drive a guy insane. Considering one of the biggest features of Perfect World is the character customization possibilities, this would seem to be a pretty big deal.
Any thoughts?

I've noticed that too... The skin adjustes to your hair collor I've noticed... White haired ppl have no problems but my light-green-haired mystic has a light blue skin now... Also when I see others I notice that their face is the right collor but their body's are pale... Well with male seekers that is... b:lipcurl[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

Indeed, I've noticed the problem is most persistent with male earthguards. Go figure. Again, I think it would be alleviated if the lighting used in character generation was true to the lighting found in most of the game (as per human character generation, winged elf, etc).
Regardless, it's maddening.
Also: If there are any aspects about this problem that are unclear or need further explaining, please let me know. I've fiddled with it trying to get it to work appropriately for hours without satisfactory result, so I'm definitely up for clarifying details.0 -
must be a bug glitch ,cuz mine works fine0

I'm having similar issues.
It's not just the skin, though. The eyes are completely black no matter what I do with them, and I can't customize the nose or mouth at all.
Here's some screenshots I took.
The skin issue:

The nose/mouth issue (I just took shots of the nose customization screen, but the mouth is doing the same thing):
Default settings (for comparison): http://i249.photobucket.com/albums/gg216/ssumppg/Nose0.jpg | http://i249.photobucket.com/albums/gg216/ssumppg/Nose1.jpg | Bug: http://i249.photobucket.com/albums/gg216/ssumppg/Nose2.jpg | http://i249.photobucket.com/albums/gg216/ssumppg/Nose3.jpg
And, as you can see, the eyes are completely black. Hopefully this will get fixed soon.0 -
@Araizel:
I do believe this one has been brought up before and is a touch different from what I'm talking about. There's also a suggested fix I found for it. Try using a preset for the base of the character and change things from there. It'll apparently fix the face-doesn't-match-body thing, and hopefully the creepy eyes and such'll go with it.
Let us know if that works out!
@NemoVtr:
I'll add a screenshot or two as soon as I can. And are you judging the comparison while still in the Earthguard territory, or out in the rest of the map?0 -
Yeah just use a preset for that like Dimitrik said... As for the colloring issiue... It would be best if we can get many diffirent screenshots with diffirent hair collors to get a good look at the issiue... Here's mine... The hair collor is a little more blueish then it should be (already adjusted that to my likings though) and the skin collor was set by me to pure white (wich should normaly be a pale skin collor but more human if you get what I mean)... As you can see it's a bit blueish now also... It was normal collor while making the character... http://img815.imageshack.us/img815/5513/20110304233225.png[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

Wow, yeah, that definitely came out funky. Where did you take the screenshot, though, if I may ask?0

In Tellus Citty...
Edit: This is how it should look... Or at least how it looks while creating her... http://img852.imageshack.us/img852/7170/20110305153613.png[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

Bravo, thank you for the screenshot. That is precisely what I'm talking about. When you get the chance, can you get another screenshot of how your character looks in, say, Plume? With your portrait visible? I'm not trying to tell the world your level or anything, just demonstrate the extent of the difference between what you design and what you actually get.
My own screenshots are still forthcoming, I swear. >.<0 -
Apologies for the double post. I finally have those screenshots for you. I would have preferred to use my Mystic for these purposes, but he can no longer be modified. But comparing the two, he definitely seems to have more of a yellow, jaundiced hue to him, which would support what Yuna was saying, since his hair is a dirty blond color.
So here's what I have with my new Seeker.
1.) What he looks like in setup.
2.) What he looks like in normal lighting.
3.) What he looks like in Tellus.
As you can see, the chargen lighting is rather misleading, and he's overall taken a darker, but more pallid tint. In the end, what we see in setup would be what normal skin colors looks like on characters. What we get is somehow more washed out/tinted. Can we get this fixed?0 -
Ah I think you pretty much solved it... All the Earthguard places give characters a blueish glow (also noticed that on my archer)... The Plume pic you took looks pretty normal... Also note that (I think) the character creation space for earthgueard is like a place with sunset... At least that's how it feels to me... So what you create there might be slighty more orange... I'll let you know more when I get out of the Earthguard places... Hopefully my little hints can help you further... b:cute[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

Well, for my Mystic, I literally tried for a couple hours to get something approaching a normal skin color. Depending on how much effort you're willing to put into your research, I could propose a challenge for you.
If you have a normal-skinned human or elf, try to replicate the skin color with an Earthguard. Again, I tried for hours and it simply did not work. Not even close. Even with my Seeker, you can see that the skin color still looks a bit dead/washed out. So even without tweaking the skin color, it never actually worked. Ever. You can also see evidence of this when you go to the boutique and have your character preview fashion.
So for as normal as my Seeker manages to look in Plume, in the boutique, he stiill looks kind'a zombified. If it looks right with the ladies, try making a male. I'm still not convinced that the weird programming isn't sexist like that!0 -
My archer has bin spending a day in Tellus and surroundings today and when I preview stuff in Boutique on her she also looks blue... I still need to go to Lagosaur with my Mystic so I can say more when I get there... But yeah the Earthguard area makes characters look blue... XD[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

Funky.
When I checked the boutique, my guy was just south of Plume, where that screenshot was taken. He came out weird-colored. But yeah, I look forward to seeing what you find.0
