PWI running in background

Is there a way to make PWI run when something is covering it, say an xfire chat window or google chrome? On JD I have to turn down the rendering and it runs in the background without freezing and potentially causing me to dc and die. Any ideas?

ya, hold Alt and hit TAb lol...... or start the game in window mode.....0

I always play on window mode, every time something covers the PWI screen it freezes up then returns to normal when I click back on it. I want it to run in the background without it freezing.0

I'd like something like this as well. Music stops if you alt-tab, so I never listen to in-game music since I hate the choppiness.
The video thing is probably an optimization.
I can see this being argued both ways.0 -
Ohhhhhhh, ya i played in window mode once, i know what you mean now. no you can't stop that. Except to just play in full screen, which you can alt tab out of, which makes window mode useless...... Plus the game looks crappier in window mode lol (or was that FFXI?)0

Do you have any idea the power it would take to run a game like that in the back ground? My core i7 with 12 gig system memory would have trouble running it that way.0

Forsaken world has no problems doing what the OP wants >_> i can bring firefox up and still be able to see FW running smoothly np. PWI the moment u bring another window on top of it, the animations freeze on screen then catch up the moment u click on pwi againAhira is a spyb:cryb:cryb:cry0

Thats what I mean! JD has that too which makes it easier I think overall with using the comp and stuff because with PWI it just freezes every time I use msn or xfire chat then I have to wait for it to unfreeze and catch up with itself.
I wanted to aid my seeker today using my cleric but I couldn't switch between the 2 windows fast enough because it wouldn't load up fast enough.
I wonder if it would be possible for PWI to run like that? It would be so much easier for me to support myself and encourage me to level more rather than just going straight back to JD like I'm tempted to now.0 -

Uhh wait so did you just admit to multi clienting/boxing on the same pc?0 -
Yea they also talk about that in this thread:http://pwi-forum.perfectworld.com/showthread.php?t=722882&highlight=Playing+screens
But as of now, PWI doesn't have that feature, so you just have to live with flipping through screens to look at PWI. Sorry[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

Yeah... are we not allowed to on here then? I heard in faction last night it was fine which is why I did it because they were doing it as we was speaking, If I get banned someones getting cut.0 -
Actually, I just found this. If you're in window mode and want to click away from the game you can still get the game window to refresh. You have to click the Window button, and then click to the program (already running) in the task bar. Now I have no idea if this keeps the music playing or not, because I dont play with the music on.
I've only tried this in Win7, so I dont know if vista or below.0 -

uh ya it is bannable..... it's ALL over the forums for a year or two now, GM's have said it MULTIPLE times it's bannable but there's still the random idiots that think it's fine even though a GM is telling them IN THAT THREAD it's not lol.....
Having two account playing on the same pc IS bannable. Having two accounts on two DIFFERENT PC's is not. If they have a reason to look and see two different accounts on the SAME IP address (and I mean your COMPUTER'S IP, not your damn router or ISP or modem or whatever), say bye bye b:bye
And well... playing the same account from two diff client's at once whether it's on the same pc or two different ones is impossible.. just thought I'd throw that in there lol0 -
I've pretty much just come back from a years break anyway so I'm allowed to break that rule just once plus I'm a rare wizard so yeah even more reason0

First, there are probably 10,000 PWI clients currently connected with the computer IP address of 192.168.0.2, since addresses that are behind a router are private addresses that get re-used millions of times all over the world.
Second, it's trivial to give your computer 2, 3, 4, or even 50 IP addresses if you wanted to, so checking the private IP address wouldn't stop multi-clienting.
Third, even if PWI did know your private IP address combined with your router's IP address, it's still entirely possible for 2 different computers to have the same private IP address anyway depending upon how your network is set up, which would lead to false positives.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

Hmm... doesn't work for me. Do you mean the start menu button when you say "Window button" ? That didn't work.0 -
Alright, just a disclaimer: I am not advocating running two PWI clients at once with this trick, so if that's what you're using it for, shame on you for breaking TOS.
(there, my *** is covered :P)
You can "background" PWI while keeping screen refresh by using Windowed mode, and right-clicking on the toolbar -> choose to Tile windows (vertical or horizontal, as you prefer). This will keep PWI visibly running while focus is on the other window, but only once. Switching back to PWI then losing focus again seems to reset things, at which point you'd have to Tile again to have the same effect. I've tried it a few times in the past, putting Firefox and PWI side-by-side to browse while autopathing somewhere, but eventually decided it wasn't worth the reduced screen-sizes for both.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]
