I'm downloading the game now. Basically, I've no interest in PVP, Love boss fights both solo and party and want to level up fast(relative obv.) at the early stages.
Help appreciated.

no interest in PvP --- pick one of the ones marked PvE.
boss fights, solo, party, leveling speed --- no difference between the servers on any of these counts. where in the world do you live? is US/Eastern time or US/Pacific closer to your time zone?[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC] Heaven's Tear alts: KenLubin, Sou_Hon, JudyCaraco --- level 5x chars.0 -
I'm sorry if I worded it wrongly but I meant to ask which class i.e. Archer, Barbarian et al. should I look to pick for the things I enjoy.0

Veno is a good class for beginners, they are cheap and easy because of pets. But can be female only. At higher lvls, they are useful for parties = debuffer, semi-supporter (chi giving, bramble). The only class that can solo some bosses with pets. All other classes will need help with boss killing, sometimes even Venos. This game is very party oriented, you will often need help with bosses and cultivation, but most people are friendly and helpful.
Other affordable classes are BM and Archer. Learn Apothecary (crafting skill) and create some Life Powders (heals 50 hp / second for 10 minutes). They are very easy to make and help a lot at low lvls, you don't have to waste coins on potions. ^^ It makes lvling faster and easier.
EDIT: If you're not afraid of potion and skill costs, try Cleric. They are needed for everything and their damage is pretty decent, I soloed all my normal (non-instance) quests. Downside is they are kind of expensive after mid lvls (have to max many skills like buffs and heals, healing skills drain up your mana). However, Clerics have some AoE skills and they can AoE grind poison mobs at higher lvls. I grind lvl96 spiders and can easily make up to 1mil in an hour (people buy high lvl dragon quest items for a lot). Cleric is challenging but fun and they get rich eventually because people take them to instances like TT and Nirvana to farm stuff. XD0 -
whoops, sorry, i should've read more closely there. :-/
anyway, the answer to that question depends on how you like to play, and what role you like to play in a group. there's no one "best class" --- not even veno, much as i love it.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC] Heaven's Tear alts: KenLubin, Sou_Hon, JudyCaraco --- level 5x chars.0 -
Thanks a bunch guys. Do I get a pet early in the game if I pick a mancer or do I have to become high-lvled? Is it costly to maintain or can I break even if I'm questing for early lvls?
About ranged, Aren't arrows going to be expensive to start off with as a noob? Do I have to make money first and then start tarining or is there a way to break even/profit while training range early?
Thanks again. More answers to the OP are also welcomed.0 -
venos get their first pet at level 3, and can start taming more pets at level 7. this is "twenty minutes of gameplay" territory if you're experienced with MMOs, a couple hours if you're not.
the first thirty or so levels you'll make a (small, but still) profit from just questing and grinding, unless you're deliberately ignoring all your drops. pretty much no matter what class you play. grinding in general tends to be profitable in this game --- it was originally designed to be an east asian grind-fest, and that still shows. questing, for that matter, often IS grinding in PW; your average quest is simply "go kill X number of Y mob".
arrows do cost coin, but not enough so a noob will notice. this might change in higher levels, i suppose, but the first thirty levels or so (at least, probably longer) your archer's ammo will be cheap enough to not matter. just buy the lowest-level kind at first, the difference doesn't start to matter until later.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC] Heaven's Tear alts: KenLubin, Sou_Hon, JudyCaraco --- level 5x chars.0 -

It all depends what style of fighting your into.
Ranged: Archer, Veno, Cleric, Mystic, Wizard, Physcic
Meele: Barbarian, Assassin, Blademaster, Seeker
Me, I personally don't like archers. Arrows=Money. If you don't have the money, you can't fight. I prefer something heavy and can deal lots of damage. I prefer Wizard or Barbarian. Wizards can take out a mob of people with a single spell. Barbarians use Heavy Armor, which gives them more physical defence. They have a lot of health (if you put points in vitality, which you should) and very strong. It's up too you. There's really no best class. By the way you describe your playing style, I'd go with either Wizard or Barbarian. Have fun!0 -
lol why do you worry about Archer arrows?... Use the cheapest ones... They cost like... 1-2 coin each? o.o It's perfect for PVE. My Archer is lvl92 and use cheapest arrows, I kill all mobs before they could reach me. The damage difference between arrows is too low, it doesn't matter.... Also, Archers mainly shine after mid lvls, but if it is played well (read guides), they can be easy once you get Knockback arrow (lvl19). b:victory Use Life Powders for lower lvls and you won't even need potions.0

If you want to lvl up fairly quickly without having to use extra items for bonus exp, go with an axe using blademaster. They only do decent dmg compared to other classes, but more than make up for this in terms of the number of AoEs they can use. If done right, an Axe Bm can maintain a near non stop aoe on opponents. HOWEVER, this is only possible from lvl 50+, as you dont get the needed number of aoes to maintain a constant aoe till then. The downsides to a bm is that they have sucky magical defense, and only moderate accuracy till higher lvls. But theyre fun to play, and are experiencing something of a resurgence in need for high lvl instance runs. All in all, a pretty good choice for a beginner.0

I find ranged classes way easier to lvl than melees. My BM always got pwned by Cactopods. xD No wonder I deleted it at lvl 20. So, this depends on the playstyle, I'm better at ranged classes, some people are better at melees. I say try all the classes you're interested in and decide which one you like the best!0

i wuld suggest you play a Mystic. as they summon their summons(pets) and the summon levels with you. + you can heal your summon and it has its own skills. it also has traps that make grinding easier, once you lay the trap it will stay there for (so far i have checked the skill and it says a minute) and it will just hit the mobs and debuff them. you hit high(if you build it now) and well, its the better veno (if you ask me) im in the middle of making a PvP guide for them but since u dont like PvP,i will try to find a PvE one for you, thats of course if you decide to play it:) Mystic is released with the Genesis Expansion on 2nd March 2011 (tomorrow) so if you can wait tll then. you can play it.0

I say try a veno. I'm not totally sure about mystic since I've yet to play one so I won't say anything about that.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]
