Why don't you let it download before?

If you give the patch right when you apply the expansion, all of your players [that you said they were "[URL="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v2QmBaVsjSQ"]Over 50 milion players worldwide[/URL] [0:37]" this spring, so imagine now o.o] will download a single file in your servers, and all of them will try to download it within 8 hours [bc of many time zones in teh world]. IMO, it will heat a little right?, pretty sure a 1-2GB [i guess that's what the patch weights] DoS attack is not nice for your servers b:chuckle

when PW-CN got this expansion, i went to check it out. Patch was avaiable for download a week or two before the release, and it took me 2 days to fully download it (well, china is on the other side of the world, so i can understand it), but i'm sure that if they didn't release the patch 1-2 weeks before, i would had to wait a week until i could download it.

I guess now it's too late, and it doesn't mind to release the patch now or in 10 hours, though....

I'm just expecting lots of players UNABLE TO EVEN LOG IN their current chars bc they can't download the patch thingy for 1-3 days.

We will see if your plan works b:chuckle

edit: time fix.... it wasn't 2 days 24h.... it was 2 afternoons :/

    And nope, its not Q.Q thread, i dun have time for playing these weeks [exams Q.Q], so i really dont care if i can't log in today or tomorrow or in a week, and i played seeker and mystic on PW-CN so i'm not excited about playing 'em for the first time.


    Aaaand.... as i said, it took 2 days to download it bc i'm right on the other side of the world, so download speed wasn't too high. Ping on PW-CN servers was like 5 seconds....

    Download time is usally 1.4-2.0 MB/s for me. I have Comcast Xfinity, It is cable internet on crack. Not as great as fiber optics but its pretty darn close :)

    It doesn't really matter to me, let it download and unless your net downright fails I doubt it will take you two days. I believe the TB expansion took me less than a day and I'm far from the servers and my connection is bad.

    Genesis doesn't so, it won't be 2 days but I expect about 6-8 hours.

    LOL I feel bad for you guys XD I probably will have it done within an hour at the most. Considering I can easily download the whole game and install it within 10 minutes, an addition of an xpack wont be so bad.

    It took me and my partner 5 days (3,000ish) miles to drive from one end of the US to the other. Since CA is where PWI HQ is most likely stationed, 3,000 miles would lead me to believe you are on the east coast of the us.

    I change it to 50mb over roughly 5500 miles.

    Why didn't they do this, why don't they do that? Well no one knows, and no one will ever know. Discussion that won't change the fact that they will still do what they want, not what we do.

    Its not your download speed thats the issue, it the patchserver's upload speed. if they made the patcher a proprietary torrent client, everyone could have it DL'ed in 5 minutes if they had the connection.

    Yes upload speed has some to do with it, but I get the same upload speed as everyone els yet I DL patches / client 10x faster than those who previously posted about how long it took them to DL the content. Upload speed is only HALF of what it takes.

    Kitty only haz 10mb dl connection, though usually it caps at 1-1.5mb when dowloading =(. Think kitty needs to spend how many hours downloading?

    If you are kitty, then I would say an hour at the MOST it really all depends, I cannot really say bec I have not downloaded the patch / xpack yet. I am just going based off of my past exp with downloading / patching the game.

    your connection doesn't matter, it's server upload speed + load balancing...

    assume server has 10GBit and 100,000 people downloading patch at the same time:
    makes ~0.1 MBit / person

    so if you don't have dedicated speed for the patch server you get what everyone else get, maybe 0.1 MBit...

    additional remark: chinas patch was distributed by peer 2 peer, so you downloaded from multiple sources at once...
