PW issues with latest NVID drivers 260+

Windows 7 Professional x64 bit
Nvidia GeForce GT220 1gb
AMD Phenom 9950 Quad-Core 2.86ghz [oc'd from 2.6ghz]
8gb CorsairXMS ddr2 sdram [2*4gb 1066]
HP 2009m @ 1600x900 max res monitor
So far, most games work just fine with the latest drivers 266.58 but for some reason PW has severe video lag [most notably when first startup game, the fish that swim are going at like .0234234 FPS.. bad sign] and it's just unplayable. Oddly enough, on my 2nd computer, all new drivers work just fine with PW and other games, and in Programs and Features there is only ONE Nvidia item at all, the driver itself. IT's a 6800gt in that computer, not the greatest system but it works.
Basically I'm just wondering if anyone else has had similar issues ever since the 260+ drivers and how they have dealt with them, other than reverting back to the 258.96 driver. Thanks and please reply with tips. I'm thinking about running the whole Driver Sweeper plan of attack and try that.. if not, it's back to 258 for me. X_x

Does it effect your sound as well?
I have a similar problem, but it affects my audio as well and is evident in other programs too, although much less in severity. I didn't update any drivers for weeks before the problems started.Non-mule characters:

I've been getting the swimming fish lag as well.
I got the GTX460 with i7-740QM, 8gb ram and am having these problems as well as of late ( in relation to the latest Drivers available). I also get the extremely low fps at character select screen as often as I get the slow fish. I thought I was the only one that this was happening to, not exactly glad to see there are others with the problem so to speak, but glad its not just me.
oh yea and it sometimes even carries over to full login(after I spawn) for about 10 seconds before it stabilizes.
edit: It does not affect the sound on my side and I always do a clean driver install for my GPU so that all previous drivers are removed beforehand. So the driver sweeper thing might not do anything, though it's still good to give it a go regardless of problems.-Hiatus/inactive0 -
Yeah I've had this issue mainly with PW since the 260+ series drivers.. it's weird, but works just fine on my other computer with new drivers. Mind boggling - and so far I've noticed it really only affects PW, and if it does affect other games its hardly as much. The insane video lag and poor FPS lasts the entire time I play the game.
I also do clean installs, and I use CCleaner and I always do very thorough sweeps on my computer. Whether it be full defrag of all drives, always do browser cleanups and Kaspersky cleanups and scans; etc. My friend says I have one of thee cleanest comps he's seen lol and he's going to college for 2 degrees in computer tech [he built me this comp actually] ~ that being said, the only thing I have that is outdated is my BIOS but he's going to upgrade that for me soon, too. I'd do it myself but I'd prob eff it up somehow and lose everything XD it's no big deal tho and can wait.
Anyway it just sucks. I hate having to revert back to 258.96 even tho it works without flaw. :c That or PERFECT WORLD need to freaking update their games graphical engine to work better [even on my high end machine I get lame ingame graphical drops etc when I know it could run far better - and yes I know, my vidcard is not top of the line but it's all I could get at that time/ soon I'll be getting my friends SLI gtx280s.. "soon" lol]
Sigh that's my ranting. Hopefully others have had this severe and annoying as SIN issue and have figured out how to manually adjust the drivers or the game so it doesn't freak the eff out? Good deal. Love and Peace - Ambroshus
Edit: I also don't notice if it does affect my sound at all, though. Haven't really tested that, but all my soundcard drivers etc are updated and current/ I don't use the Nvid HD audio soo yeah.0 -
Hi there, I've had similar problems on one of my pc's, however the one that works fine has a nvidia 220gt 1gb. What specs does your trouble free pc have?
My pc's are:
PC 1 (troubled)
AMD Athlon X2 64
Nvidia mainboard
Nvidia 8600GT
2gb Corsair ram
Onboard sound card
PC2 (trouble free)
Intel Core 2Duo
Intel chipset mainboard
Nvidia 220GT 1gb
2gb whatever ram
Creative Fatal1ty sound card
At some point PC1 had a newer video card but it was unbearable how the game behaved. When I put the old card back it at least started giving trouble only after being on for two or three days. Then it needs a reset, but the symptoms (with newer drivers) are the same, the crazy fish on the login screen and anything on screen also doing some crazy erratic dance while things from my other pc look completely normal.0 -

When I turn the water settings down to the minimum, the problem stops. It seems to be the water that does it for me. PWI isn't the only thing that's affected, but it is worst affected by far as far as I've seen. My problem is probably different, just coincidentally similar in symptoms.Non-mule characters:

but yeah, uhh.. the comp that has no issues [noticeably] is kind of a ghetto machine. Just a uhhmm.. (going from memory here and dont really remember..) a 256mb or 512mb 6800gt and like 2gb ram with Win7 x64 lol.. its about as optimized as it can get for its system. But yeah, the game and others seem to run fine on it [altho of course with lowered graphics..]
I'll try turning off the water effects, which seems odd. If you go on NVidia forums directly, man oh man people have been having all kinds of issues with drivers since the WHQL 260+ and most say that the 258.96 are the best for having no issues. Odd that it could be 'my vidcard' causing the issues, if older drivers work just fine - and other people with my same card and same system don't have the issue - or have it even worse.
No matter what though I will always stick with NVidia.. ATI can suck a donkey. Nvid are just trying to advance their technology further into the future and advance the PhysX and Cuda hardware/software.. just wish I could afford better cards. Once I get my friends sli 280GTX i'll see if I have the problem..
I still say PW engineers should do a little graphical engine optimization cuz like I've said before, even on high end machines, the graphics do weird things I never see in other games. Still a pretty game tho, just wish it had a bit more sharpness and view distance [and no stupid skin-tone fade when you zoom out] >.<
EDIT: You're right, I turned off the water settings and it has no video lag now O.o' so something in the water incursion is causing driver issues with the game.. hmm0 -
Just replaced my graphics card and all's well....including the latest NVIDIA drivers. b:victory That confirms my problem is not related. I recommend only those who have problems with v.266 to rollback though.Non-mule characters:

..if I should post on the official Nvidia forum about PW's water effects causing the issues with the latest drivers. I wonder what it could be, because my video card should handle water just fine [I always had water on max in all games before to no negative effect] and now so far all games can run on just as high as before but, have to turn water down O_o
and yes I agree, if you are having issues with Nvid driver 266.58 then the best driver to rollback to is 258.96 - as for me I've had issues with every driver since 260+ but yeah. Thanks so much for alerting me to turn down water effects at least I can play now, until I get my new SLI 280GTX's
Hope this has helped others as well!! As for the people having audio issues since latest drivers, that you may have to search the Nvidia forums directly. Thanks again!

My problem was a faulty graphics card....perhaps the card's BIOS became corrupt....it was about 3 or 4 years old anyway and had lived through a lot including a faulty power supply.[Retired from PWI]0

I see, I see. Well, my GT220 is only about a year old, and everything on my computer is pretty much up to date and issue free. Even better.. okay so I decided to just update the drivers anyway, when Genesis came out in hopes maybe the game itself would fix something [of course not, wth was I thinking?! lol] but no, no luck - tried to rollback to 258.96 again - and voila it won't install. I do the "driver sweep and clean install" to the exact instruction as always, and go to install driver, it'll finish [extremely fast] and say "System not changed blah blah" and then I have to clean out all the half-installed driver folders it puts in. So I'm stuck with the latest uber-bugged Nvidia drivers. T_T I just want to get my new SLI vidcards but I have no idea when that'll be >_<
SO, in saying all this, I have to play the game on half-assed graphics just to be able to even suffer thru it well enough. So to everyone just turn down water entirely, turn off sound and quality, and turn off trees/flowers/clouds and shadows. Sucks knowing your computer can handle practically anything you throw at it, yet having to suck it up and play on low graphics. *sigh*0
