Secondary Character Full Mag Cleric

I saw a couple old threads on this topic but i didn't wanna necro so i'm just gonna ask my question here. It's obviously a bad idea to go straight up full MAG (5 str) for tons of reasons, but what if I just want to use my cleric as a secondary char to just support my sin or bm when i'm just soloing and not in a big squad or something. So there would be like almost no chance of my cleric gettin aggroed. That way I wouldn't mind using one of the beginner quest arcane armors or w/e the whole time so would it be alright to just put in only MAG for that purpose only and maybe later levels if I want to properly train my cleric just pump str for a couple levels to catch up. I guess it boils down to does the stronger the weapon you use have an effect on healing/ buffing abilities? Just wonderin.. I'm new to clerics..

So you mean you wont add any str thats needed to upgrade the weapon for your cleric?
If thats the case I'll think it will effect your buffing/healing abilities yeah. IF you want that cleric to provide you with decent heals, which i guess you surely want cause you're willing to make it a full mag build, wont it suffer more being max mag build instead of just statting the regular build?
Also, wont it be really hard to lvl your cleric up to the point you can 'use' him for healing your main? Unless you plan on logging 2 chars to do all its quest I think that'll be a hard thing to do.
If I misunderstood ya sorry in advance, just typed out what I was thinking after reading this.

My advice to you kirikar is don't do it, not worth. The thing is... to be able to use any kinda of arcane gear you only need 0.5 str per level, which means 1 str each 2 levels and the benefits that a better weapon and gear can make for your magic stats are much better and totally make up for the spent points in strength.
On the other hand if you just want this cleric for support your main character in quests it might be okay since buffs are not affected by magic stats and the heal itself might be enough, besides, you won't spend coins to gear up your cleric.

    Hope this helps you.

yea you pretty much understood what i was talkin about about and yea since i temporarily have access to another comp I was planning on loggin on my sin to get thru the beginner quests. I just wasn't sure if stronger weapons (aka. higher weapon magical attack) increases the amount you heal/buff and both of ya'll pretty much confirmed that it does so I guess adding str would be worth it then. I was just checkin to see if I could potentially heal more/ buff better this way instead of the 9 mag 1 str way. Thanks! :)

buffs are not affected by ur weapon. healing does.

if you want a buff/rez monkey you can not allocate points at all.
if you want him to heal you you should at least put enough str to wear a decent weapon.
if the bosses aoe you will want to wear armor so you can survive them.

Look, as mentioned I think once or twice now, you still need a minimum strength to use a decent weapon, which is a huge factor in your heals. So you might as well just put that strength requirement in, or have enough bonuses handy, so you can use equivalent armor. It's a bad idea to presume the cleric will never be hit and give yourself a near 0% reduction. Heals are more than powerful enough simply as a pure mag with enough str for wep and arcane gear.

I think you may have hinted at weaker heals meaning less heal aggro as being reason for wanting lower level weapons?

Imo, you'll rarely heal aggro a mob thats had any sort of outside dmg already done to it. If you're worried about your cleric getting aggroed while its healing and you are focused on killing mobs with your sin, then having current level gear might allow your cleric to survive long enough for your sin to pull the mob off without your cleric dieing.

And yes, weapons = base magic damage. Buffs are not affected by base magic damage, but heals and attacks are.
