Make-Up Malfunction!!!

Holy ****, I've been sitting her for 40 minutes trying to make a character and I am trying to make the lips pale and the eyeshadow black but everytime I try, the eyeshadow won't change color and the lips the lightest they go is red. What is wrong? Please tell me.... I am getting angry fast. >:[
