I am not sure if this has been posted before so I will do it now.
The image must be sent in as a 24 bit BMP format and must be 16*16 pixels with a RGB color mode.
Okay,
So you want to make a transparent faction icon for your faction, well here is how you do it.
First, get the image you want, I will use this one:

Now resize it down to 16x16 px:

Now you need a graphic editing program, I use GIMP which can be found here:
GIMP, the GNU Image Manipulation Program
First, open your BMP image in GIMP:

Second, Click the % on the bottom as shown and enlarge it to 800%. It is easier to work with the image:

Third, add your Alpha Channel for the transparency as shown here:
Fourth, click the select tool as shown here:
Fifth, select the area in which you want to add transparency:
Sixth, Press your keyboard DEL key to delete what you want:0 -
Seventh, when you have deleted everything that you want, click the select None area as shown here:
Eighth, Now lower your % back to 100%:
Ninth, Click File, Save As and save it where you want under what name you want. MAKE SURE YOU DO NOT CHANGE THE BMP FILE EXTENSION!
When the pop up window opens just click Save:
You have now created a faction icon that is RGB value and 16x16 px in size.0 -
I should mention that I used Windows paint to resize the image from 160x160 px to 16x16 px and set it up as a 24 bit BMP image. It is easier to use paint to do that, then it is GIMP.0

Great guide and rather you know it or not, you taught a tiny bit on how to render(not to be confused with graphic rendering) a pic as well.0

Awesome guide. It really helped out a lot.
Could a forum moderator sticky this guide so that it doesn't get lost in the others?[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0 -
Don't forget to mention that when you do this, you have to save with the options 32 BIT A8 R8 G8 B8, otherwise the Alpha Layer (which holds the transparency data) will not get saved. Of course it will not display as transparent in most (any?) image viewer.. however they want it done that way for some reason.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

Can someone confirm that the transparent background will appear white in most image viewers?
I've made a faction logo and used alpha layers in photoshop, but the background comes out white when I save the file in .BMP format...0 -
