I guess the main problem is that special characters like "|" are generally not allowed in filenames, which probably conflicts with your data package format or whatever.

I wanted to suggest, if that hasn't done before, to use Base64 encoding with / replaced by - for working around that issue.
It should allow you to convert any binary string to a valid filename.

And shouldn't be too much work since base64 encoding and decoding is a fairly common thing after all, many libs exist for it, partly even stdlibs in some languages :)

(Well, you're most likely used base64 before, but I figured I'd say this just in case :P)

    PWE changed the encoding, you could have names guilds etc in nearly any language before (in betas).

    I'd wager they prefer you not to use special characters at all, after all that's why they changed it in the first place.

    They did the same thing with FW, I can no longer use japanese in the current CB..
