Stone Barrier will help keep you alive in combat

But I think you should read Wizard Guide for Newcomers. which is a sticky thread in this forum. If you are impatient search on that page for "Recommended Spells".

And, if you have enough time, read the other sticky guides also.

All of them, but best is Glacial Embrace.
Glacial Embrace: A protective spell that protects the user from water damage as well as providing additional MP regeneration. This spell cannot truly replace MP potions, Charms, and become a staple and never ending MP source, but it can relax the amount of MP used. Requires 30 Chi.

Even if you have bad defense and protective spells can't reduce damage, inflicted to your character by mobs,Glacial Embrace can provide additional MP regeneration, which is necessary to cast spells.

Like they said you will eventually want to get all of them maxed but start with glacial and stone barrier. Stone barrier is useful early on when you have very low hp and very low phys defense. I personally maxed glacial first as I liked the extra mp regeneration. It meant I could kill faster and usually without ever having to stop to meditate.

By level 60 you'll also want your fire shield. I usually only use it on fire mobs and that's when you'll start running into them more often. Now I use stone barrier when against physical mobs that can hit me. Otherwise I keep glacial up all the time. Most of the time I can kill the monster before it gets to me without kiting so the extra mp regeneration is better than the extra defense.

Stone Barrier hands down, especially if you are on a budget.

EASILY Stone Barrier first. Glacial Embrace Second I guess, and Pyroshell last. You just NEED The PDef from Stone Barrier, that skill kind of makes a Wizard a Wizard. Really, it's an amazing Core Skill, and anybody who does not max it ASAP is just putting to waste an amazing skill.

please do not point people to the stickies. They are terrible and people just end up needing to restat later because the guides recommend the stupidest stuff you could possibly imagine.

I will agree that they are not perfect, but I did not feel like writing one of my own right then.

not perfect is an understatement. I know what you mean by not writing one.. but imo its better to just answer the question or let someone else.

you can leave the fire shield at lvl1 FOREVER and do just fine

even vs heavy fire damage -.- since you are wearing arcane armor anyways

lvl1 because its prerequisite for following fire path skills later on

    ....
