My Characters Were Deleted?

I stopped playing PW Int for 6-8 months and then when I came back recently my characters on the Lost City server were all gone. I made a ticket and they tell me that my characters were deleted on Dec. 2, 2010. After going back and forth with them they're basically saying that if I want to play again I have to start over. I don't see why they can't just give me the exp needed to regain my levels. I had two high levels on Lost City: Reignfire (Blademaster) lvl 65 and Purple_Death (Assassin) lvl 83. I don't have the time to start over. I even remember wasting an entire week on this game when I was on vacation from my job. Plus I spent hundreds on zen and I've been playing since day one and even played on the MY server Oracle buying lots of cubi. I never shared my account name/password with anyone so was I **** or is there some sort of mistake? What can I do?
I spent forever to make it close to the top then some A**hole or an error kicks me back down @.@ Why me?

    characters do not get deleted by PWE, even on banned accounts. no matter how long you leave for your characters would still be there. very few if any claims of "**** accounts" are anything other than misplacing your trust in someone and then finding that they screwed you over.

    so guess you shouldnt have deleted them, and if you didnt you shouldnt have given your account details to someone else who may have deleted them.

    What? That's crazy! Why would I delete my own characters? I also didn't share my account details with anyone. I'm not claiming that PWE deleted anything intentionally (perhaps some sort of data loss if anything). What I'm saying is I don't know what happened and I'd like to find out and if possible get those characters back. If it happened to you I'm sure you wouldn't be so high and mighty on the subject.

    Also how long is zen purchase history kept on file? I logged into my wallet and it showed no activity ever. Shouldn't every purchase from day one be listed? This is also why I think there was a data loss or maybe all those purchases were too old. So I'm basically screwed?

    Are you logging in on the right server? >_< it's easy to log into another one by mistake. If you are, and they really are gone, then that's odd. I don't see why a hacker would delete your chars, unless they really really hated you or wanted to use your char's names. o.O

    Yes I'm 100% sure it's the right server. All of my deleted characters were listed in the drop down box on the ticket page when I first submitted one. PWE even told me what date the characters were deleted on. I had some other lowbie characters on a different server that were untouched so it was only that one server and my account wasn't deleted. I did make some enemies from a past guild but I never shared my account info with anyone. Is there anything I can do? If not I'll just go preorder Rift and pay to play. This is the only MMO where my characters haven't been safe.

    Has anyone else had a similar issue? If I do play again it'll be after the new expansion.. but I have a feeling I'll be playing Rift since they're both coming out around the same time. Well nevermind.

    Same thing happened to me, both of my Sins are gone. I went through every server on the list searching for them but they aren't there
