How am I supposed to create a character?

I had a problem validating my account through the email link. I contacted customer support and they were very helpful in that they activated my account manually within just an hour or so from the time of my email.
Now I have another problem. How do I create a character???
When I click on the link in the email now it says that I have successfully created my account and downloads the installer, and I see the next step in the chain at the top is to create a character, but the page never switches to it, and I can't click on it manually to create a character. I see in the client where I have to select a character before I can get into the game but I don't have a character to select!

Help please!

    1) Launch Launcher (Perfect World Int. on Desktop)
    2) Press start
    3) Log on
    3) Press "create"

    My client does not show a "create" button. There is "Select Character", "Cancel" and "Start".

    Oops, my fault!
    I happened to notice the display looked funny. so I changed the graphics settings.
    I have a wide screen monitor (laptop) so I had checked the 16x9 option in the settings, but that trimmed off the top and bottom of the page! I unchecked that and found it.
    Thanks for telling me where to look for it anyway. I was looking on the website instead of in the client!
